As a garden centre Nichol's isn't a place to go to find exciting food. But what they did have was tasty, well presented food at a decent price.
I had a well presented and varied breakfast,
The food was amazing. Generous portions, no problems with adjusting menu items to needs. Separate menus for vegan, gluten free etc. So fresh and delicious, we will go out of our way to come here again
Ordered the vegan mushrooms on toast from their vegan menu. The description sounded lovely, on sourdough, with vegan parsley garlic butter and vegan cheese and spinach.
Unfortunately when they brought the food mine had poached eggs on top so I returned it. I considered just removing the eggs but I didn’t trust that the rest of the dish would be vegan - it smelled so delicious, very garlicky and I was so hungry, but I decided to return the dish and wait for a new one.
When the new dish arrived it looked very different so I’m pretty sure the first one was not vegan at all (not just because of the eggs). Unfortunately the new dish didn’t smell of garlic at all, the sourdough was completely dry - it was actually just tasteless mushrooms without any flavour on dry sourdough. Yes, there were some lumps of vegan cheese and spinach which I ate. But the main dish (being mushrooms on toast) was bland and dry. I couldn’t eat it.
I informed them on my way out that they seem to have forgotten the Vega parsley garlic butter to which the response was that the mushrooms were cooked in it. Well all I can say is, if they did in fact cook the mushrooms in garlic butter then how come there was no flavour or smell whatsoever of garlic on the mushrooms? I think it’s more likely that they are meant to cook the mushrooms in the garlic butter but they forgot.
So I walked out of Nichols garden centre with $18 less in my pocket and a hole in my stomach. Don’t think I’d go back. A place where they think that vegan equals flavourless is not for me.

Nice Salads - Edit
Always a good vegan salad on the menu. Great to also grab a takeaway salad with a good portion.
