CLOSED: New York Soup Kitchen

This restaurant is hidden away but is definitely worth the search. Overall it is great for vegans and vegetarians as they have a variety of options for both, where you have the total liberty of choosing the ingredients for your salads and rice bowls. I ordered a rice bowl (I asked with soy sauce but they put way too much so ask for it aside or very little as it overwhelms that whole dish), the lentil soup(which was great, i ended up ordering two) and a smoothie (I don't recommend the smoothie as it tend to have too much ice and loses all the flavor of the fruit). Everything is obviously homemade. The lack of decorations that fills the room makes it feel very empty, we were the only costumers there as well, and the kitchen is right in the center which is kind of awkward. It could use more space with more furniture. It is extremely inexpensive and therefore is just for the taste, not exceptional to be honest but good.

This is a cool little spot tucked away in the middle of the city. Apparently it used to be all-veg, but gave in to customers who wanted a few meat dishes. Still mostly veg/vegan, with lots of creative options and a dining area with balconies. The kitchen setup is a bit odd, basically boxed off in the middle of the room and sometimes very chaotic, but it seems to work.

This restaurant serves up a tasty assortment of all-vegetarian (and mostly vegan) soups along with delicious dishes such as hummus, thai salad, lentil burger and home-made lemonade and cookies. They offer an economical lunch option with your choice of soup, sandwich/salad/quesadilla, cookie and drink.
New York Soup Kitchen/La Sopería is open from 12pm-5pm Monday through Saturday. It's central location makes it easy to get to while in the downtown area!
