Amazing food! Vegan menu is the default.

Netherworld's menu is vegan by default and while they serve meat, it's not on the menu and you have to ask for it. This is vegan-world in reverse and I love it! The food is amazing! The burgatory is the best burger in Brisbane! Bar-none! The deep-fried mushrooms are delicious and the seasonal menu is full of surprises. Hot dogs, Tofu bites, mac and cheese, spicy chips... the list goes on! All the beers are vegan too and what an amazing selection they have. Finally, the board games, arcade and pinball machines make this place the number one venue in Brisbane for yummy vegan food and loads of fun. All ages are welcome, the staff are friendly and it's a home away from home for us. They also produce special pins for high scores on the games. We currently have a Galaga comp going at work and three out of four now have a pin. The best food, drinks and atmosphere await you and even if pubs aren't normally your scene, you'll love this place.

Pros: Amazing, delish food with lots of options, Arcade games, e.g. Galaga, The best beers going around

Cons: Parking can be tricky (catch the train), Super busy Friday and Saturday nights

Fun, busy barcade style pub

What a blast this place is! Packed solid with pinball, arcade machines and a generous library of classic board games, this joint delivers a great night out.

First off, while this place is technically 'vegan options', it doesn't FEEL like one, because everything on the menu is vegan by default. The end result is liberating; there's no hunting around on the menu for what you can have. Order what you like and tell any omni friends you bought to customise. (At an extra charge; how novel for them to have to price up for once!) I adore this model and think it's one to copy for vegan-options restaurants.

Drinks are also excellent. The cocktail menu is small but excellent; the drinks on tap and in the fridge are great choices. For the designated drivers (like me) there are also house sodas available. Try the grapefruit.

The barcade aspect is also brilliant. This place is noisy, yes, but it's energetic and friendly as well. There's a great selection of games about. (Including, of course, the legendary Addams Family pinball machine.) Staff are helpful and friendly; they easily accommodated my gang of weirdo roleplayers running games of Fiasco and Baron Munchausen at one table by giving us index cards and coins. If you're more into the videogames than board games, there are also high score challenges to beat for pins.

One last note: I'm very appreciative of the Karmacade initiative here, where you can donate to a cause at any time. Round up all your drink purchases and send that money to a good cause. (And donate $10 for your karmacade pin. You know you want it.)

Deserves 5 stars.

Pros: Loud, crazy, energetic fun, The peanut butter and jam waffle is NUTS, Great staff

Cons: Noisy, crazy, hard-to-talk to others fun.

Wonderful food and funky venue

I love Netherworld. All the food is vegan, you have to pay more to add meat. The food is tasty and different. The addition of the video game arcade makes it a great night out.

Pros: Huge selection of vegan food , funky venue, bar

Cons: Can get super busy , parking can be tricky , doesn't take reservations on weekends

Great vegan bar food

My partner and I recently visited Netherworld for our anniversary lunch, because we wanted to see what all of the fuss is about.

The place has a great style to it. It's very alternative and "geek chic" (if anyone still says that), with board games and arcade games dominating the space, and despite the somewhat grungy aesthetic, everything was very clean, including the toilets (which is something of a novelty in Fortitude Valley). Unfortunately this atmosphere means that they've sacrificed the ability to have a quiet sit-down meal, particularly if you're with people who aren't gamers/general nerds/alternative types.

I say "unfortunately" because the food is awesome. This is the only non-vegan place I've ever seen that has vegan options as default (something I think we'll be seeing a lot more of in the future), and the food really doesn't disappoint. My partner had the Sasquatch, a bowl of coleslaw, BBQ jackfruit, onion rings and a sweet potato waffle; I had the Hellhound dog, a hotdog with a range of pickled toppings. Both of the meals were excellent, and I'm sure they would impress the most critical non-vegan.

This place is definitely well worth the visit for the food alone; if you're into retro gaming it's a must. Just be warned that they do get very busy at on Friday and Saturday nights, so if you're going for a meal, I'd recommend skipping those times.

Pros: Great food, Very clean

Cons: Busy, A bit noisy

Super awesome, fun fantastic!

My partner and I frequent this fun establishment as often as we can. The menu is actually 100% vegan, so I wish I could rate this place 5 stars! However, for those who wish to add dairy or meat they pay extra, isn't this the way it could always be? Anyway, the food is diner type fare but you can find some kinda healthy stuff also, and the slaw is out of this world! Favourites are the Burgatory and the Teriyaki burger. This place is sooooo much fun!!! Playing the old school arcade games ($1 per game) and free board games! There is also a happy hour which I think is between 4-6pm, for each drink you get, you get a token to play a game. Check it out! Great night out! Staff and patrons friendly!

Pros: Lots of fun and delicious , Great crowd, Great staff

Cons: There's only one Netherworld ;)

One of Brisbane's best

This is kind of how the near future should look. A place with awesome vegan food by default, and you have to pay extra if you want meat or dairy.

A lot of fried stuff, which is all great so far. There's cauliflower wings in some crazily delicious green sauce, loaded fries plates that are fantastic, tofu bits, every starter I've had has been delicious.

Then for mains you have fantastic burgers, a delicious coleslaw style bowl with some big fried thing in it, and then for the slightly healthier option a chickpea salad bowl with falafely balls in it.

Gets busy at the times you'd expect a place to get busy, but well worth the effort. Has heaps of classic video games, pinball machines and board games, plus it's actually a pub/bar so a full range of interesting beers and other drinks.

Coolest vegan friendly place to open in Brisbane in a while, pity it will live down here in the veg-friendly happy cow listings, because vegan by default is pretty cool.

Pros: Food is amazing, Vegan by default, Bar and games

Cons: Gets busy, which is cool actually
