Horrible and Exploitative Workplace. Bullying Owner and Manager. Do not pay employees.

I've been through some Vietnamese restaurants before. They might be underpaying, lacking benefits for employees, but I had never ever felt deeply disrespected and despised as at this place!

Although I had devoted myself wholeheartedly days and nights to the job, the manager reviewed badly to the owner about me as lacking the learning attitude and responsibility at work after I had quit. He ended up not fully paying me, without any further talk or consideration. All I received was his rude and angry message accusing me of lacking dedication and a £100 payment out of his pride to cover my travel expenses despite the fact that I even spent a day working freely for him as a volunteer to faster get familiar with the job.

The manager, named Hien, was full of personal resentment. Despite having some experience and skills, she showed no respect to other team members, mostly students, and kept shouting at us using discourteous language over negligible issues whenever she wanted. She scarcely gave recognition to the staff however hard they worked, continuously claiming herself as 'systematic' and 'highly-educated' while she was indeed the one who needed training the most on the most basic righteous manners at work, on how to be a team player and how to care for others' well-being. Although I tried my best to follow her instructions and usually showed my kindness to soften her anger and please her, she didn’t understand or appreciate it. Even worse, she talked badly behind customers and treated them discriminately.

The owner, Viet Anh, had only words. He loved talking about meditation and kindness while having superficial understanding of what they were. He kept talking about meditation, promoting 'mindful eating' on his website while his ability of self-control was very low and couldn't even be able to simply sit down and decently talk.

Initially, I just wanted to get rid of these things as I didn’t want to waste any of my time on those people. However, considering all the detrimental effects it has on my mental health so far, I think those people and their ways of doing business needed to be exposed as a warning for them to rectify their behaviours as well as to protect present and future employees.

Very good vegan food

Half the menu is vegetarian or vegan. The food was delicious and there was a wide variety of vegan dishes, some of which I’ve never seen anywhere else like a tofu pancake and sweet potato/banana pancake. The portions are also large and the prices are reasonable. Recommended.

Pros: Large vegan menu , Tasty, fresh & nutritious food with lots of vegies, Friendly and helpful staff

Cons: Some dishes had stronger flavors so check , Didn’t take credit cards so bring cash

Flavourful

Half of the menu is vegan so a lot of different options to choose from. Everything I’ve had at Nem Nem has been super tasty. Would recommend getting a range if dishes to share - this way you can try more things! Prices are also very affordable. It gets busy so may need to book a table before visiting but the staff are always very friendly and will try to find a table for you if you walk in.

Pros: Affordable, Tasty, Lots of options

Play your cards right

The menu here is 50% vegan. Whatever the non-vegan dish is on the left of the menu is matched by a vegan option on the right. It’s essentially a vegan restaurant with labelled non-vegan options. We shared spring rolls and battered fish starters followed by a pretty sensational seitan in black bean sauce and tofu and aubergine curry. Excellent food, excellent place.

Pros: 50% vegan , Lovely staff , Good value

Large vegan menu

Overall a very nice meal and even though there's a lot of meat on the menu their vegan menu is just as big with a good looking variety. Some of the dishes we ordered were delicious, some just ok. There were a couple errors in our order but the staff were friendly and apologetic about it. Little annoying that it was only once we got the bill that we were told that they were only accepting cash and so had to go find a cash machine

Pros: A very large vegan menu, Friendly staff

Cons: Lots of meat

What a great find!

This is a lovely place. I arrived very early for lunch so was the only customer at first, getting to see right by the window overlooking Upper Street (I love people-watching so this was great). There are so many vegan options, I struggled to decide what to have. I ended up having summer rolls with tofu as a starter and an aubergine dish as a main, I forgot its name unfortunately. Both were great, although I think I would choose the seitan main next time. The owner was lovely (I think it was the owner) and made lots of jokes throughout. I'm sure I will be back on any future trips!

Pros: Large vegan menu, Friendly service, Good spot to watch the world go by

Amazing vegan find!

Went here for lunch and it was stunning. Had the tofu pancake as a starter which tasted so good, and the seitan pho for main. Lemongrass tea is very pretty also. Staff are so friendly and fun, definitely worth the visit. Support this business!

Pros: Tasty vegan options, Very long vegan menu, Reasonably priced

Nom nom

A really fun and diverse menu that managed to marry authentic cuisine with vegan options. The scallop stir fry was particularly good.

Great food at their new place Nom Nom!

Would rate 5/5 if I could. They have a massive vegan menu, same size as their standard menu. Great pho soup and an amazing rice pancake! Would 10/10 recommend 💕

Such a let down.

We have been twice before and the food has been good. The last time we went we were seated near the door, it gets super cold and blustery every time someone comes in. This time we booked for 6.45pm on a Friday and were seated on time. The manager then came over and told us he needs the table and we have to move to near the door, he then proceeded to shout at us and his staff members for seating us there. It got really awkward when he was shouting at his staff and us and flapping his arms about in front of other customers. We ended up leaving. I think if he'd have been nice and offered us some alternatives in courteous way then it wouldn't have been so bad. I'd say good food, awful owner/manager, I genuinely feel bad for his staff, they looked exasperated.

Wow

Menu is written in two columns: omni on the left, vegan on the right. Same length, nice! Loads of exciting sounding dishes that I cannot wait to go back and try. We were in a hurry so just ordered favourites this time, pho, bun sa/xa and pak choi - and all were delicious.

Really Good

I usually avoid Vietnamese due to the risk of oyster sauce but this place has a vegan menu and appears to be aware of the need to be careful with cross-contamination.
There's a really good selection and service was great. I will return.

Pros: Vegan Menu, Good Service

Cons: Sells meat and fish

Brilliant vegan options

Lovely independent Vietnamese restaurant with a vegan menu almost as long as the main menu. Creative and unique dishes such like fried aubergine 'fish' and curries and pho with home made seitan. Nice staff and lovely decor. Will be back again to try and eat my way through the whole menu!

Pros: Huge vegan menu crafted with love, Home made seitan, Very reasonably priced for the location

Cons: No vegan desserts (though they are working on it)
