good selection - Edit

This store has very good selection - sometimes co-ops have a lot of specialty items but not daily cooking needs, this store has a good variety of both. It reminds me of Wild Oats.

High energy, happy place to shop - Edit

This is such a good place to shop and also stop and talk to friends. A wide selection of bulk items, pastas, oils, whole grain foods, etc, as well as vegan items in the deli and hot food bar. Classes on healthy and international cuisine. Community projects that benefit non-profits doing good work for this region. It isn't your father's grocery store from the previous generation. It's much more interesting, comprehensive and substantive than that. Where else can you find black truffle oil, ghee, and several varieties of seaweed in the same aisle? Also, the management is responsive to member/owner needs and there are generous, continuing discounts in exchange for member/owner volunteer work.

Pros: wide selection, fair volunteer discount system, friendly service and management

Cons: alcohol department, high prices

One of my favorite places in Carbondale! - Edit

This is a great health food store and there are lots of ready-to-eat foods as well. They have a lot of fresh and local produce to choose from. The deli is delicious (open 10am - 7pm) and there are more vegetarian dishes than non-vegetarian, including at least one vegan pizza every day. The deli also serves made-to-order sandwiches. Try the veggie groove wrap, it is vegan and delicious!

There is a sitting area to eat in the store, as well as a few tables outside to eat.

The co-op also recently added a nice selection of craft beers and local wines, some of which are organic.

Pros: Very Vegan Friendly, Long Hours / Open 7 Days a Week, Lots of Deli Food

A Great Co-Op...I really miss being a member!!! - Edit

This is one of the best things about living in Southern Illinois! I have moved to the Chicago area and had to give-up my membership; boy do I miss it!!! There are so many great things at the Coop that I can't even start to tell you. Just go in and see for yourself! If you care about your health and what goes into your body then you need to check this place out. Sign-up to be a member and get your discount, also enjoy the warm feeling of being a part of something wonderful. Every time I return to Carbondale, I stop by and buy as many things as I can get into my bag. I have such good memories of the old store on Jackson but the new store is absolutly fabulous! Just a note: the map shows it on E. Main but it is actually on W. Main in the Murdale shopping Center. If you're reading this and live in C'dale and do not go to this store already, then you MUST GO to this store. It will become your favorite very fast. I can't say enough about how wonderful the people there are, how clean the store always is and how healthy the items in the store are.
