yummy food - Edit
I like the food. Great for vegans. Service and setting aren't that great but the food makes up for it.

the vegan reuben is amazing - Edit
Some of the dishes are better than others, but, hey, it's all vegan, and it's all at least good. The reuben and the fake chicken with avocado sandwich are definitely worth going out of your way for. And the blueberry lavender lemonade--yum!
Read moreAt some of the locations the staff need to be schooled in the proper amount of avocado to put on a sandwich with "avocado" in the title, but I'm just nitpicking. I'm glad this restaurant is around!
Pros: all vegan
Cons: decor is a bit cold

vegan junk food and takes long - Edit
First time and my expectations were too high. It has a fast food feel. No juices except for those sugary ones in the plastic fountain containers. Short handed and took forever for food to come. I'm on the road and they have no prepared containers of food to go. The vegan community expects otherwise. Now the food comes. It's ok. It's junk food vegan food. The sausage sandwich had one thin slice of Gyro type soy meat with an untoasted thick bread smothered in veganase. Really chincy for 9 bucks. As I said, no healthy juice options, fast food feel. I'm not coming back. I always look to find the good in places !

I lot of stuff to order and the portions are very fair. The quinoa bowl was very tasty. Also had some fried sweet potatoes that were really good.

good start - Edit
l ate here 4 times during my week in DC. I'll be honest, this location is not as good as the Wicker Park location in Chicago. Here, there are a few tables on the main level with most of seating on the basement level. Basement level seemed pretty soul-less. Outdoor seating needs more plants to buffer the table from passers by and provide more privacy. The food was good but not as flavorful as Chicago. Chefs need more training and/or better quality control. In most my dishes, they skimped on the sauces. Why not provide extra on the side for those who want? Bathrooms needed tending. Floors were dirty & tables needed wiping.

Wow.. - Edit
This place just opened up and it is seriously amazing. A couple of my friends and I had the chance to dine here for free thanks to Compassion Over Killing. I will post the pictures on here. The exec chef was outside 80% of the time there was a line to talk to people, I loved that.
Read moreWe ordered the following: Japanese Sesame Crusted Chicken Bites, sweet potato fries, Native Chicken Wings (crispy and buffalo), lemon dill potato salad (amazing) and native nachos (YUM!!). All were delicious, the nachos, potato salad and chkn wings were my fav.
I got the chkn run ranch burger and it was seriously, hands down, THE BEST mock meat I've ever tasted. My BF ordered the Reuben, which I enjoyed - but he wasn't a huge fan. He did LOVE my burger though.
My friend ordered the twisted twister wrap and said it was delicious, I definitely want to try this next time...as well as everything else on the menu!
I can't quite judge on the wait time since it was a soft opening, but the staff SERIOUSLY did an amazing job considering the amount of non-stop lines. My favorite drink was the lavender lemonade, I tasted the rest of the sodas but was not a huge fan. I am not a huge soda person though.
There were a few things that were lacking, the key lime pie definitely needs more of the key lime taste.. it was more of a sweet cake. The crust was definitely yummy though. I got the peanut butter parfait and LOVED IT, so creamy and delicious. I was originally going for the spicy chocolate cake but they ran out.. next time! I only wished I lived closer to DC.. can't wait to return.
Pros: amazing, parking close by, waiters
Cons: key lime pie needs more flava

So happy this opened in DC - Edit
Finally, a vegan eatery close to downtown! So many have come and go, and I truly hope this one is here to stay. I went during opening week, so management has a few kinks to work out, but was very pleased with the food! I had the blackened tacos, and they were yummy! I can't wait to try the other items on the menu!

Sustainable, affordable, vegan. - Edit
Yes, yes, and… yes, we in DC are pleased that Native Foods has finally opened up shop here in that Nation's capitol. Let me first say that this place is part of a chain, but, it's nothing like a chain you've tried before. This is a happy, vegan, sustainable, healthful, tasteful and, as they say, chef-inspired chain of cafes. They change their menu, they revamp it and they welcome input, change and the community!
Read moreThe menu is all vegan, yes, all vegan! How many eateries in DC itself are all vegan? Yeah, you know that you can't list more than half-a-dozen that are 100% vegan… well, change that number upwards! Hurrah!
It's a Californian thing, though, so recognize that Californian flair seeps its way into the approach, philosophy and preparation. However, for healthful vegan food, I actually like it - unlike for, say… pizza. What does this mean for the menu? It's an eclectic mix where there literally is something for everyone!
One odd point of fact is all starters/ appetizers have gluten? You can get the edamame hummus without the wheat pita, but if you have Celiac's, you'll be warned to avoid it. The hummus is tasty, though, and "safe" if you don't have Celiac's or heightened sensitivity to cross-contamination. The other starter that is ridiculously popular - table after table kept ordering it - and with good reason, the nachos. Those, too, though, have gluten (probably the meat). Still, if you can eat gluten, who cares?! If you can't, opt for the taco entree for a similar Mexican-style dish?
I love the Earth Bowls with their grains, protein and seasoning like curry, Kung Pao, Moroccan sauce and Greek-style. More importantly, I really appreciate all the veggies that come with it! Awesome! Truly a vegan-based menu! The handholds can be made without the wrap or burger/ bread and eaten as a bowl of sorts when the burger/ filling is placed atop greens (kale!). Many tables were ordering fries and sweet potato fries, but also, the lemongrass broccoli. I like the broccoli with a subtle flavor, that again, emphasized the vegetable!
Desserts are available, but only 1 is gluten free. The desserts are alright, and I would get them if in dire need of vegan baked goods, but I would go here first and foremost for the fresh, healthful, tastefully prepared vegetables accented with protein, grains and seasonings.
I can't wait to go back - I have a loyalty card now...
Pros: 100% vegan, Affordable, Sustainable
