Soup dumplings not vegan

As of June 2026: Server at lunch informed me the soup dumplings have pork broth, despite being labeled as vegetarian. And the crispy noodle dish has egg in the noodles. She advised that the vegetable dumplings (non-soup version) along with the udon noodles are vegan, and made a modified vegetable udon dish, which was ok.

Make sure to clarify which vegetarian labeled items are vegan. Not sure if the above is fully accurate based on others being told they are vegan, but just be cautious.

not a fan of the soup dumplings

the veggie soup dumplings had no soup and the filling was the same as the steamed veggie dumplings. the filling was also quite bitter. the cucumber salad and iced teas were tasty though

Vegan Soup Dumplings in K-Town

The Korea Town district is one of my favorite neighborhood hoods in New York City, but with the abundance of meat-based Korean BBQ, it can be tricky for vegans. Luckily, Nan Xiang Xiai Long Bao features a veganized New York classic: soup dumplings.

This dim sum spot is an excellent choice for vegan diners. We ordered a ton of dim sum for the table. My vegan choices were the vegan soup dumplings - which were delicious and full of a flavorful vegetable soup, the stir-fry bok choy, and the pan-fried crispy noodles - loaded with a variety of mushrooms. I also ordered a melon green tea which was pretty good although I’m not a big fan of tea drinks like that.

The restaurant was very full, but service was fast and we were able to be seated quickly once our entire party arrived.

Pros: Vegan Soup Dumplings, Vegan Items Labeled, Quick Service

Cons: Need Full Party to be Seated

Veggie soup dumplings are vegan

There’s lots of good vegan options here! I loved the veggie soup dumplings and the salty soy milk soup. The dry soy sauce noodles were also pretty good

I asked the chef before the dry sautéed noodles might contain eggs that’s why the color is not white but yellowish, they only label vegetarian if you are vegan need to double check with them always , I remember their sweet soy milk is vegan but the salty one might not , they have the hot soy milk can make sugar free which is completely vegan :)

Yea I just double check the menu they only label vegetarian and gluten free , they didn’t really label vegans , that’s why I always asked if their dish contains dairy or eggs or not even if they label as vegetarian, and their salty soy milk is not vegetarian, I like to order the hot one without sugar , just the original soy taste is amazing

Fresh and affordable

It's busy, but has great vegetarian options and a clearly labeled menu. A good option for later-night eating. Steamed vegetable dumplings and cold vegetarian appetizers are fresh and tasty, as is the fresh soy milk. The noodle soup is fine, but I'd probably skip it in the future - underwhelming and salty. Prices in 2024 still feel reasonable and service is quick and friendly. We've only gone with other veggie folks but this would be a good place to go with omni eaters. Comfortable dining room.

Amazing veggie dumplings

Service was quick and the food was amazing. We ordered bamboo shoots, a cold seaweed dish and the steamed dumplings. Would recommend trying this place out.

Pretty good options!

The veggie dumplings are absolutely delicious, and so is the dipping sauce! So are the spring rolls (with an amazing sauce!), and the veggie soup. I also tried the scallion pancakes but didn’t ask if it’s fully vegan. Things are labeled “vegetarian” so ask first if you are vegan. This area is full of culture and authentic eats! A must in NYC.

Pros: Authentic, Good prices, Can get takeout

Cons: Serves meat, Can get busy, Might have to wait a while

AMAZING DUMPLINGS!

This place has the best steamed vegetable dumplings I’ve had in NYC. They are vegan. Other vegan options include red bean buns, soy milk, tofu and veggie dishes.
