Nasty

*This review is for the Rehoboth Ave location, which has the same menu and which I can’t find on Happy Cow*

I’ve been using Happy Cow to find vegan friendly restaurants for 12-ish years, and this is the first ever review I’m writing because Nalu was that bad.

There were red flags from the moment we walked in. The host and server both acted like they didn’t want to be there at all, and our service reflected that. For example, the host didn’t say a word to us and then just dropped the menus off at the table without even stopping, still not saying anything to us. It was such an awkward interaction that we weren’t even sure we were actually supposed to sit down at that particular table.

The water that was put on our table was literally undrinkable. It tasted foul and had a nasty smell. We brought this up to our server, who told us that’s just how Rehoboth water tastes. What? We’ve been coming to Rehoboth for decades and have never encountered such gross water before, including at any other restaurant on this same trip. We weren’t planning on drinking, but ended up getting overpriced cocktails just so we’d have something to drink with our meals (we didn’t trust the soda fountain to taste any better).

The food was not good. The edamame appetizer was meh and had a sauce on it that neither of us really liked. I got the vegan ramen, which tasted bland but somehow also gross. I had to put the sauce from the edamame in it to give it some taste. The vegetables in the soup were just okay, the broth was weirdly slimy, and I think the noodles were just regular spaghetti. I ended up eating maybe half of the broth only. The person I went with eats meat and fish. They got one of the poke bowls and said it wasn’t anything special. They didn’t finish their meal either.

Overall, this was the most expensive meal of our annual Rehoboth Beach trip, and it was 0% worth it.

Buy Asian Food Instead

If you want Asian food, just go to an Asian owned restaurant. I had the Poke bowl and it was bland. The rice was also crunchy. The Impossible burger was good and so were the fries though!

Pros: In Dewey Beach

Cons: Nobody wears a mask, Bland food, Pricey
