A bit off the tourist trail in Edinburgh but probably better for it. Love the decor (very insta...although I don't do that; I just eat!), friendly staff and obvs great food! The savoury dishes (scrambled tofu in particular) are lovely but the main attraction is the beautiful cakes...unicorn cupcakes and hummingbird cake to name but two. Not only stylish but scoffable too!

Style AND substance - Edit
Some bakeries are all style and no substance, but that is definitely not the case here at Naked Bakery. These cakes here taste just as good as they look!
Read moreThe macarons are just as tasty as their non-vegan counterparts, if not more so. The cakes are moist, sweet and look absolutely gorgeous. Rip open a candyfloss unicorn cupcake and you’ll find a wonderful colourful surprise, or treat yourself to a Rudolph cupcake to get into the festive spirit.
An equal amount of love is given to their savoury menu, which has a good balance of wholesome dishes, such as avocado on toast and red noodle soup, and decadent treats like Beyond Meat burgers and mac ‘n’ cheese. The avocado and beetroot hummus on toast is delightfully Instagrammable, while the Mac ‘n’ Cheese burger is just pure filth (in a good way)!
The café itself is also one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The walls are covered in oh-so-Instragrammable purple flowers, the table numbers are labelled with beautiful gold signs and the plates, bowls and cups are gorgeous black and gold. These guys have paid serious attention to detail, and it shows.

Lovely food - Edit
While I'm not entirely vegan myself I like to eat vegan foods where possible and decided to give this place a try. The food was amazing and the cakes even better. I would reccomend it even if you are with non-vegan friends.

We ate three times more than we should have because everything looks and tastes so good! All is vegan. Full Scottish breakfast, pink waffles, red velvet donut, macarons, chai latte, beetroot latte.

Can't wait to come back! - Edit
Visited for lunch with a friend and we were both delighted. We had toasties (the burgers looked amazing but we wanted to save room for cake!) and both really enjoyed them. Amazing selection of cakes, donuts and macarons in the counter - it was so difficult to choose as they all looked beautiful. Opted for a delicious vanilla donut to eat in and a stack of macarons to take home. Really friendly and welcoming staff and lovely decor too. Looking forward to coming back!

Style over substance - Edit
I have to say, after reading the reviews here I was really disappointed by Naked Bakery. I visited at 3:00 and they'd almost completely sold out of cake. They had cupcakes in lots of different colours (their lemon cupcake was blue for some reason) but the flavours weren't that interesting and at £3 each I thought they were rather over priced. I paid £3.30 for a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows but the hot chocolate itself was watery and beside the novelty of vegan cream and marshmallows, really not worth it. The service wasn't great either, and I waited a long time to be served while the counter staff chatted to someone they'd already served. They clearly put a lot of effort into decorating the cafe, I just would have rathered they put this effort into making tasty cakes.

Over rated - Edit
We went at 3.15 on a Saturday and they had very few cakes left so I’d recommend going earlier in the day for full choice. They had sold out not long after and that seems unreasonable.
Read moreI didn’t try any of the food menu. It was a fairly standard cafe menu but all vegan obviously- toasties, burgers etc. Portions sizes I saw looked good though it is a bit expensive- £13 for a lunch main. The cake I had was nice but not exceptional. The cupcake I had the icing overwhelmed the flavour of the cake. And neither flavour was great, just fine. The tea pot didn’t at all keep it warm so my tea was fairly cold by my second cup.
The service is fairly slow, for no obvious reason when it’s just cake, drink and orders at the counter. The interior is what I guess counts as stylish and fashionable but is really not my taste.
I think my expectations were high because of the reviews on here and it was fine. But it seems style over substance really. I wouldn’t go out of my way for cake here.

Great find! - Edit
We were wandering around Princes and George street and wanted to get out of the rain. Happy Cow said this bakery was close by and had glutenfree options so we stopped in. What a treat!! My boys had hot chocolates with toasty marshmallows and my husband and I had flat whites with oat milk. But the best was the glutenfree chocolate orange cupcakes!! I haven’t had a treat like that in at least five years. It was delicious and I savoured every bite. I wish we lived in Edinburgh so we could come back for the lunch menu, the food looked amazing. Definitely worth popping in!!

Taaaasty!!! - Edit
We've been there for breakfast on a Sunday morning and really enjoyed it. Tried the full scottish and a donut. Also had a couple of lattes. Everything was tasty and we loved it, BUT it must be said (and that's the reason we are not giving them 5/5) that it took over 20 minutes to get our hot drinks and nearly 1 hour for our breakfast to be served. Don't go if you're running short of time ;)

Pass on the Mac & Cheese - Edit
I was a bit disappointed based on the other reviews. I didn't try the donuts/cupcakes which looked great or the breakfast items and that may have been my mistake. I had the bowl of Mac & Cheese with Maple Bacon. Neither really had much flavor. I'd give this place another try based on the other reviews but would definitely order something else.

AMAZING - Edit
My partner and I turned up a little weary and soaked through with rain on a bad weather day, but we received such a warm welcome!! A beautiful little spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street, the Naked Bakery BLEW OUR MINDS. Beautiful vegan food made by vegans, and so good we’re going back tomorrow for breakfast!!

The food is nice but service is quite slow and we were not kept updated, however when asked they did explain and gave us free cupcakes to apologise for slow service.

Delicious Doughnuts!! - Edit
Came for breakfast, stayed for the doughnuts! The full vegan breakfast I had was indeed full, and included many good faux meats including black pudding, maple bacon and sausage.
Read moreThe first round of doughnuts were brought out about 30 mins after they opened. Best vegan doughnuts I've had so far! Even the simple flavours like vanilla were great.
Place seemed very popular - many doughnuts sold within a few mins of them coming out.
Highly recommended for a meal or to grab some sweets!

More cafe than bakery - Edit
We went to the bakery expecting lots of cakes and pastries, so we were surprised when there wasn't many cakes and no pastries but a large food menu.
Read moreWe decided to try the burger and while it was very nice I'm not sure it was worth £13 each. Especially when it's marked with a single $ on happycow it's more than you'd expect to pay.
Very nice food, but the prices for the hot food is far too high.
Pros: Very nice food
Cons: Far more expensive than we expected
