What a lovely little shop! I tried the special, which was cold soba noodles with cherry. It was great! My parents each tried hot and cold dishes and enjoyed those too. (I liked mine the most!)

We tried both a hot and a cold dish and they were incredible. The owner has a picture menu and can explain stuff in English. He brought out soba water for us to drink after we ate our soba! The space is very cozy and relaxing.

Cheap, wholesome and delicious. Highly recommend this place for plant based soba. Honestly such a cute find (google the what the outside looks like as it’s not very clear that it’s a restaurant) in a very meat and seafood heavy town.

Delicious vegan soba, must do in Otaru! - Edit
Delicious soba, the menu is not in English but the chef came over with a picture menu. We were able to point at what we wanted. Soba and broth are light and flavourful. The menu has hot and cold soba. We were served the water used for cooking the soba at the end of the meal, which is customary to drink after eating but we hadn't experienced it before!
Read moreGreat atmosphere with a wood burning fire to heat the restaurant. It is located about a 15 minute walk from the end of a main tourist street but was easy to locate with Google maps.

Nakaya is a hidden gem, 100% plant based and a uniquely Japanese experience. The chef and owner will try his very best to help you out in English, but it would be good to learn a couple of Japanese phases to help meet him half way.
