Fantastic food close by Peace Park

We walked here from the museum and found it easily. Restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait too long. Vegetarian and vegan options ("only vegetables") were clearly marked on the menu. Was a bit more expensive than some of the meat counterparts but glad we stopped by for lunch.

Great place

We loved it!
Important to mention that they cook vegan and non vegan noodles on the same pan.
Not the most healthy and nourishing food, however it’s good option when in Japan where veggies and fruits so expensive.

Pros: Authentic , Big portions , Everyone speaks perfect english

Cons: Left smelling food

Vegan okonomiyaki was well presented. It was simple, and great !

Staff was very accommodating, kept vegan okonomiyaki separate from meat one, and explained well which sauces were vegan.

Pros: Non oily, Control of how much sauce

Didn't love it

Happy that they had a vegan menu, but it didn't hit the mark for me. I struggled to make look like I'd eaten enough to not look rude. Good friendly service.

Be prepared to wait!

This place is popular, and for good reason! It's definitely a little bit touristy due to such good reviews and awards from trip advisor, happy cow etc which means you may wait for up to an hour or so on busy nights. I have eaten here several times and highly recommend it. They have an okonomiyaki option for everyone. Be sure to ask for the vege okonomiyaki sauce, as their in house sauce is not vege/vegan friendly.

10/10 authentic Japanese!

This was such a delicious meal! They had a separate vegetarian menu which was awesome. It’s a very popular place, so on a Monday night we waited in line for about 30-45 minutes at 6:30pm. But very worth it! You can watch them cook your meal right in front of you too, which is also kept on a hot plate at your table so it doesn’t loose its warmth. It’s awesome! Vegan dishes are available also. We felt like it was a bit rushed due to its demand as we would have loved to take our time and maybe enjoy a few drinks with our meal. But all in all, food was absolutely delicious!

Pros: Lot of veggie options , Absolutely delicious

Cons: Wait time , Felt a bit rushed

Famous place for okonomiyaki

Cool okonomiyaki bar/restaurant, we waited 1 hour to be seated! We ordered the vegan option (no cheese, mayo and meat), if you’re not that hungry, one okonomiyaki is good for 2 people. They expect you order a drink and we had iced Japanese tea. Hiroshima is famous for its okonomiyaki but honestly there’s nothing special about Nagataya’s okonomiyaki. It was alright for the price.

Cons: Waiting line

2 hour wait for salty/bland food

We waited in line for two hours and can honestly say it was not worth it. Absolute waste of time for average food - the vegetable sauce (salty and overwhelming), green onions and mayonnaise were the only things that gave the vegetarian food flavour. I can’t even imagine this for a vegan without egg, cheese and mayonnaise. We had much better okonomiyaki in Tokyo without the wait. If the line is back to the crosswalk - you are in for a two hour wait.

Good experience

Queue moved fast. Several veggie options - I went for noodles, cheese, cabbage & corn. Probably more limiting for vegans. But we were seated at the counter and watching the dishes being made was a fab experiences.

Pros: Couple veggie options , Cool Experience, Near the peace garden

Cons: Could be limiting for vegans

Not a great vegan dish

The few recent reviews that I had read were all very positive but personally I don’t think this dish translates well to a vegan one. I basically got dry fried noodles with spring onion on top. Had to use a lot of sauce. That’s after queuing for an hour. Not for me!

Delicious local food. The first place in Japan I’ve been able to experience traditional Okanamiyaki in over 4 years! A must visit place for vegetarians and vegans.

Please visit!

Not that great

I did not like it as much as previous reviewers. I found it to be bland with just a store bought bbq like sauce. But still great to have this option! I would go there again if I were in the neighbourhood.

Street food from Hiroshima

Appreciated the opportunity to try Okonomiyaki as a Vegan. Restaurant does get very busy during prime time to it’s good to arrive early. They even cleaned the grill surface to cook vegetarian meals.

Closed on Tuesdays & 2nd & 4th Wednesday in March 2019

We tried to go here for lunch after reading the reviews but unfortunately it was closed. There was a sign saying that in March (2019) it will be closed on Tuesdays and the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

Traditional japanese experience

I really appreciated that they have clearly marked menu in English. The staff has a good understanding of veganism, so they even changed the sauce on the table in advance. As I've never eaten okonomiyaki before (neither "normal" or vegan version), can't really speak of tastiness when compared to other restaurants but personally I enjoyed their version a lot. Be prepared to probably wait a bit to be seated as there might be a queue in front of the restaurant. Even though the staff is really busy, they still take a good care of you so it's definitely worth the wait.

Pros: clearly labeled menu, tasty, kind staff, cozy , clean, price

Cons: the queue (not that bad)

so, so good

Onomiyaki was delicious! Menu had a clearly marked vegetarian page, with a clearly marked vegan subsection. Staff understood vegan as a concept and proactively replaced the standard sauce jar on the table with the vegetable sauce to put on top of the food. Great experience!

Pros: delicious , clearly marked vegan options

Delicious food, atmosphere not as great as the okonomiyaki place we went to the night before, but the menu was so easy to follow and they had so many veggie options.

Cool experience

The okonomiyaki was amazing but we definitely should have shared one between the two of us instead of getting one each, but we really weren’t sure as to what we were in for. The brown sauce stuff was to die for!!! Would definitely recommend dousing your meal in it! It was an interesting eating technique, one in which I had never seen before, but would definitely give it another try!
