Excellent Vegan Food - Edit

I have been to Mysore on several occasions. The food is excellent. Plenty of vegan options. Traditional northern and southern Indian dishes. Uthappam and Dosa are tasty. Chana Masala and Gobi Masala are my favorite. If you are vegan or love indian fare, You must go to this place. As of 4/20/2016 they are moving locations which is good as their current location is difficult to find even w/ GPS.

Pros: Vegan, Well prepared, Clean

Cons: none

Highly Recommended! - Edit

We were looking for a good vegetarian option in the area and chose Mysore Woodlands because of it's good reviews and because we'd never had southern Indian food before. The service was friendly & helpful, the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant and the food - absolutely delicious!

favorite south indian food - Edit

It was a lucky day when our friend Sanjay recommended we go to Mysore Woodlands, a South Indian place he had found in Parsippany. After all, Udipi Village in Montclair, our favorite restaurant for over 10 years had closed and we were desperate for a new source for our South Indian fix.

Imagine our surprise when we walked into Mysore Woodlands and were greeted by Lokesh, the former owner of Udipi Village!! It was like a family reunion.

And sure enough, the food was as great as it had been at Udipi. Amazing idli and sambar with just the right amount of spice, the kids had their Dosa and Uttapam, and we all stuffed ourselves at the buffet. After finishing with their legendary coffee we talked to Lokesh and caught up on old times. He told us that the location in Parsippany was larger and had a private event room that better suited his growing crowds so he moved there in 2009.

He also told us that they cater and our friend Sanjay, who reintroduced us, had them cater his father's birthday bash before he went back to India last summer. It was so much fun. They brought a grill and made dosa and uttapam to order for over 50 guests along with plenty of sambar and side dishes. Everyone left very happy (and i got to take some extras home. Bonus!).

If you want the best family run South Indian restaurant with the friendliest staff and authentic cuisine, this is where you want to visit. Here's to another 10+ years of enjoying Lokesh's amazing food.

Pros: Friendly staff, Authentic food, great coffee

Cons: to far from my house

Excellent. authentic South Indian - Edit

Mysore Woodlands turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the middle of nowhere. After Saravanna Bhavan in Manhattan this is the first truly authentic south Indian restaurant I have found in the tri state area. The menu is varied and very reasonably priced as all South Indian restaurants. The only downside was the woeful service. For a restaurant of this size thay had one waiter, one busboy and one hostess / owner doing all of the order taking and serving. Clearly they were going to have problems. But they were quite cheerful about it. Go try it, if you are in the neighborhood.

Pros: Authentic, Value

Cons: Service

Fantastic, cheap Indian food - Edit

We went to Mysore Woodlands and were really impressed. The buffet (with bonus chat AND dosa or uttapam on Tuesday and Friday, when we went) was $12/each, and the food was really good. They were able to point out which items were vegan and which were not with no trouble, and were happy to make vegan dosas and uttapam for us. The amount of food was pretty incredible, we got two full meals each out of it for pretty cheap.

It was a bit tricky to find, it's on the north side of rt 46 (you have to be heading west to turn into it); and "russo plaza" doesn't have a sign with that name so you just have to look for the woodlands sign.

Pros: Cheap, Vegan-Friendly, Delicious
