One of the most amazing tavernas I've eaten at - Edit
From the outside and the tout who is trying to lure you into what's look like a "tourist restaurant" you might hesitate about coming in. However as soon as we mentioned we were vegan he gave us great recommendations of what's vegan by default (briema, yiemista, bean salad...). The decoration is nice and table spaced out which is nice not to have someone smoking right into your face. Customer service was great and they spoke good english. Food was outstanding!!! We had the vegan melted feta, bean salad (which has a lot of sundried tomatoes!), Vegan moussaka & yiemista (labelled vegie but is actually vegan). Everything was super flavourful and the portions were big. I could only eat half of all of that and had to have the rest takeaway while my partner ate his part haha! They gave us grapes and orange raqui as complimentary
Read moreI think this place is super under rated. We also had a water bottle house wine. All of that for 32€ super nice price. We will be back.
Pros: Labelled vegan options, Outstanding food quality & portion, Great customer service & cheap
Cons: Looks like a tourist trap from the outside lol

Tasty food and nice staff - Edit
Went there last night. They have a good amount of vegan dishes. We had eggplant salad, wine leaves and legumes. Main dishes were stuffed tomato & bellpeper and a dish with potatoes, mushrooms and maroni in a delicious sauce. Everything tasted good and fresh.

Not many vegan options but yummy - Edit
We had garlic mushrooms, baked vegan feta, vegan pizza and vegan moussaka. The service was quite slow and there weren't an awful lot of options but the "feta" cheese which was basically on everything, was amazing. Probably homemade.

Be more clear on what vegan means - Edit
We had a nice lunch here -- lots of tables in the shade to be had and a server eager to please. I recommend the bean salad, which comes warm and very flavorful. I would eat here again though I would come prepared to ask more questions of the server in order to get past the confusion over what "vegan" means to different people especially people who speak English as a second language way better than I speak Greek.... The menu has a vegetarian section and also lists a vegan moussaka. We asked lots of questions (language barrier permitting) about dairy and asked if one of the vegetarian dishes (stuffed vegetables) could be made vegan. We ordered it after confirming that it did not have cheese, but then the plate still came with a generous serving of yogurt on the side that the server said we didn't have to eat. That dish was labeled vegetarian, not vegan, but the server was not able to figure out that we were avoiding all dairy products and ask the kitchen to leave it off the plate. Bread also came served with butter, which was kind of strange after we asked all the questions about avoiding dairy. There was definitely confusion about the definition of vegan. The bechamel for the vegan moussaka was made from almond milk, though I'm near certain it had dairy cheese on top that was broiled and browned. When I asked the server about the topping, she assured me that there were only vegetables in the dish but didn't know what the topping was.
Read moreThere's some room for improvement on communicating that "vegan" means no animal products so that this becomes an easy option for vegan diners.
Pros: Has a vegetarian menu, Has several items that can be made vegan, Tasty food in nice atmosphere
Cons: Server confused over what vegan means

The food was very good - Edit
Came for the vegan Mousaka, after asking about it turned out that it was not vegan, the waiter confirmed to me that it was made with real cheese. Luckily I asked because I’m highly allergic to milk and eggs. I went for the vegetarian ragout, it was delicious.

Dear friend our vegan moussaka has no cheese. Its vegan with almond milk and vegan cheese. Probably the waiter did not understand your question. Dont forget english it's not their native language. Thank you for visiting us and took the time to review us.

Worth the walk! - Edit
The restaurant is a bit far from Rethymno but accessible by bus or by walk if you are really motivated.
Read moreThe place is cute and green and the staff very friendly and eager to help.
We had the garlic mushrooms which were absolutely delicious, the dakos without cheese and the vegetable ragoût. Those 3 dishes were really tasty!
The price is a bit high because it's a touristic area but the food is fresh and homemade.
Worth the walk!
Pros: The vegan dishes are really tasty and not just dis
Cons: Not so many options + price

one vegan meal available - Edit
I ate a vegan moussaka, it was okay if you like moussaka. Be aware because they have a dish with fish marked vegetarian. I don't know if I recommend you to eat here, you could go to better places. I think you could make the vegetarian dishes vegan if you ask. A beautiful restaurant at all!
