Delicious, authentic meal - Edit
I really enjoyed my meal at Mumokuteki, I had the set meal with 3 different types of fake meat, rice and several different Japanese salads/pickles. English menu, easy service and delicious food!

Overvalued - Edit
The restaurant is located on the first floor and is very large.
Read moreThe selection is equally large in different sets and desserts.
I took the specialset because it looked good but in terms of taste and price it was not really good.
At the end, I had an ice cream dessert. It was cheeky, it tasted like crashed ice with a bad soy milk, the few cashews could have been spared.
Cons: Pricey af, Tasteless

Cost outweighs value 💸 - Edit
Modern Shop and Café with lots of high quality products, goods and food. Nice vegan cafe with a relaxed vibe.
Read more💰 But the price tag is a bit too far off for what you get.
🇮🇹🍨 Tiramisu Parfait (1500¥ | 9.8$)
Nice combo and the small piece tiramisu is a great add-on. The fruits were frozen and therefore not nice to eat. For what you get the price is too high imo.
Not worth nearly 10$ 💸

Fab Teishoku and Omurice - Edit
Mumokuteki Cafe is a magical spot catering for plant-based folks and offering a much-needed reprieve from the chaotic tourism Kyoto is experiencing.
Read moreThe cafe is located on the second floor of a shop and has such a cute vibe. Lots of natural lighting and warm ambiance to really make you feel at home.
All of the meals here are vegetarian-friendly with a few indicating that bonito is used. It looked like most items are vegan or can be made vegan, so be sure to check the menu to make sure before ordering.
I ordered one of the Katsu Teishoku (¥2500) which came with an abundance of healthy veggie sides, rice, soup, and soy meat katsu. The soy meat patty was a hit that was perfectly fried and coated with a wonderful katsu sauce.
My sister ordered their vegan omurice and fell in LOVE. She called it the best omurice she's had and her favorite meal during the trip, which says a lot considering she is not plant-based.
We ended the meal with an incredible soy latte dessert - not too sweet and very refreshing.
Loved the cafe overall. A bit on the pricier end but the quality of the food helps to justify the price point.
Pros: Excellent sets

Popular lunch place - Edit
We had a reservation for lunch, which is definitely recommended, it was full. Yummy lunch, I had the curry, the red one was spicy, the cream colored was a bit bland - mixing both makes it alright. The set meal with three types of vegan "meat" might have been the better choice. I had a maple latte as a dessert, tasted good.

Come Hungry! - Edit
Stumbled across Mumokuteki while browsing the store below and saw there was a vegan cafe upstairs. You need to get a ticket from the machine and wait for a little bit but they are very quick to get to you! There are lots of options - I got the meal set with okra, tofu burger, and cutlet which was so oishi! It was a very filling lunch and you can get a set with a drink and a soft serve which you absolutely should if you have the room! The staff were so lovely, the meal was so wholesome and tasty, I wish I had discovered it sooner!

Good meals but not the greatest. - Edit
The Uba omelette with rice looked like the real thing, but was flavored very different. It was nice, filling, and certainly not bad, but I probably wouldn’t order it again. I’d try their other dishes first. The Sichuan style dandan noodles were similar - nice, filling, and certain not bad, but would probably look at other things to order next time.

Great vegan lunch - Edit
We got the meal with tofu steak, miso cutlets and gozen. It came with heaps of little side dishes. On the pricier side, but more food than usual so I didn’t leave hungry. All the food was tasty. Service was good. #Veganuary

Great lunch - Edit
I got the full lunch plate and it was honestly quite delicious. It was a lot of food, but also didn't feel super heavy.
Read moreI was quite disappointed by the tiramisu parfet, it was super cold, almost frozen, so it barely tasted like anything. The tiramisu itself was also quite cookie-like, which was not great.

Delicious Fusion Japanese-American Food - Edit
My husband and I really enjoyed our lunch at Mumokuteki Café.
Read moreWe were lucky that there were a few free tables when we arrived during the lunch hour and we could be seated without a wait.
I ordered the Mysterious Curry with two mock-meat side dishes - the okaraage nuggets and the miso cutlets. The Mysterious Curry was two different curries - a spicy/hot one and a milder one and they were both delicious and complimented each other, perfectly. The mock-meat side dishes were just OK, a bit oily/bland and nothing special. The vegetables on top of the curries were my favourite part, very fresh and delicious.
My husband had the Tofu Hamburger Steak and Okaraage-Gozen set meal and loved all the dishes.
We shared a tiramisu parfait for dessert and it was fabulous!
Overall, a delicious, filling meal with good, quick service.
