Serves meat, vegan options available. Traditional Greek taverna with some vegetarian dishes - ask which are vegan. Open Mon-Sat 12:00pm-11:30pm, Sun 2:00pm-11:30pm.
This cozy taverne is situated in a few streets behind the busy toerism center! Like the name said, mummy is cooking. Her son is working in the taverne as the waiter. I told him my allergy and other preferences and he came back after he spoke with the mummy! He had a few options, also outside the regular menu! I had big beans with carrot & tomato sauce as a starter and my main course was stuffed tomato & paprika (with rice). All dishes were delicious! They don’t serve big plates, like the toerism restaurants do, the portions are fine so not many waste! This taverne is not expensive.
Unfortunately, in Kos there are not many vegan options and I was willing to try every place that could offer something vegan.
I ordered Horta which at first glance looks a lot like Chinese/Asian dish I really like which is made out of green oil fried green leaves except this Horta is served cold.
It was new for me, not as good as I expected as the Asian version is one of my favorite dishes at all times, but it was tasty.
For main course I ordered tomatoes and bell peppers stuffed with rice; after few minutes the waiter came back and told me they're out of it. I wish he would've double check before offering me this dish because I got really excited.
The other option he gave me was Dolmades which is stuffed grape leaves. It took a little while to arrive but it was really good and tasty.
I gave them only three stars because the service was a bit slow and it took me some time to get the attention of the staff.
They're considered to have great local food and if you are not vegan I would definitely give them a try!
Food was cold, greasy and no flavour. Only one dish, no choise. The owner chased after the streef cats with bottles, and trying to kick them. Never again to this place
Despite the flies (we sat outside), the food was lovely. I had stuffed vegetables. Service a little slow despite being quiet, but as long as you are not in a hurry.
The owner of this restaurant is very charming but overbearing. I had a nice lunch with a few dishes adapted to be vegan. However, but when I returned in the evening the owner was not as helpful and told me there was only one vegetable dish available and the owner did not provide the option of creating a vegan dish as the restaurant was busy. I ended up having an poor quality meal.
After so much walking and menu checking, we found this place. Greeted by a nice man. He offered a vegan selection which turned out to be very tasty. We would recommend visiting this restaurant at least once.
