My all time favorite Vegan place in KC - Edit

If there is a line out the door I promise it's worth the wait. My all time favorite lattes with homemade coconut milk. Try one of the homemade milks they are all awesome. Savory or sweet treat you just can't go wrong. Love everything here.

Thank God for Kansas City Vegan! - Edit

We walked in and LOVED that we could order anything. Our two little girls were thrilled!! Fried doughnut. Chocolate bundt cake. Pumpkin chocolate chip muffin was my fave! And two almond milk home made chais topped off our sugar crack pit stop as we're traveling thru KC. Definitely a cool place in a house with cozy cool nooks around each corner.

I almost gave five star ratings just maybe a little clean up of the walls and floors and it's a five.

Delicious Desserts in KCMO! - Edit

I was only in KC for a few hours, and Mud Pie Vegan Bakery was one of two stops that I just had to make while there. The large and bright yellow (or is it orange?) 2-story house, which houses (literally) the bakery, can be easily spotted from 39th St. They share a very small parking lot with other business, and it was completely full, but we lucked up on close curbside parking on the street.

Once inside, we were warmly greeted. There were lots of goodies from which to choose: cupcakes, muffins, cookies, scones, brownies, and cakes slices. I got a couple of cupcakes and a salted caramel bar. The cupcakes were moist and the icing was very sweet and buttery/creamy.

Delicious vegan sweets, friendly employees, and fair prices. KCMO is lucky to have this gem.

I love this place! I got a killer Soy Latte, and you can get any flavor and not have to worry about hidden dairy!! Got a couple mini donuts and cupcakes to share with friends. They were delicious! ❤️️

Pros: Great coffee options, Nice selection of food and baked goods.

Cons: Not close enough to my house! ;)

I love this place! - Edit

Wow...so many choices, so little time! Everything I had was SO good. The pumpkin sheet cake was to die for. The icing was incredible. The cinnamon roll was one of the best I've had. The sausage cheddar scone blew my mind! I had a chance to chat with owner Mike and he is super nice. :) I love the vibe here.

Delicious Treats - Edit

I stopped in here to pickup some sweets and I was not disappointed. My favorite was the red velvet cupcake. What made it even more tasty was knowing it was made free of dairy products. Such a neat little spot. Will have to get some coffee very soon.

Pros: Tasty Treats, Friendly Service

Cons: Parking

Hands down, favorite local business - Edit

Whether they're reinventing old standards or coming up with stuff you'd never dreamed of, Mud Pie always hits the mark.

I love that they're always experimenting with new menu items -- sandwiches, stuffed pretzels, kolaches, better-than-twix (my words, not the official name) caramel shortbread bars, strawberry cheesecake coffee cake, and maybe one day ice cream, donuts, juices, and grab n' go lunches.

Mud Pie did our wedding, they're our go-to for work and family events, for business and social meetings, quiet time, family time (there's a kid room filled with toys and secured with a baby gate), a walk destination, a birthday party (we grab something vegan for our kid when partying with non-vegan cake eaters), and of course a coffee or tea drink any time.

Sharon has been developing vegan recipes since her kids were young, and daughter Ashley and her husband Michael keep the shop full of fresh, comforting, innovative treats and drinks. Michael roasts much of the coffee in-house and purchases from local roasteries as well. They make most of their plant milks in-house -- almond, cashew, hemp, coconut. Definitely try the chai with cashew milk. The delicate richness of the cashews pairs well with a spicy, sweet, subtle chai.

Also! They have a separate gluten free kitchen and keep gluten free goods (lots!) separate. Not sure on nut cross contamination, but otherwise the best allergy-friendly treats in KC.

Mud Pie hosts community and family events often, including meetups, movie screenings, trick-or-treating, and more.

The people are just simply fantastic. Ownership, baristas, bakers, management, everyone. They all deserve to be billionaires and Kansas City deserves a Mud Pie empire. If we're being real.

Pros: Location, ALL FOOD AND DRINK, Truly something for everyone

Cons: Smaller, so special orders need more lead time, Texture of baked goods occasionally suffers

Incredible and awesome vegan variety - Edit

We moved to Missouri from California 2 months ago. Happy Cow has always been our go to site to find the local 100% vegan places in any area we wanted to go to. We purchased a home in MO so we are here to stay and we were disappointed in the 100% all vegan choices. There are only 2 in the KC area and none 75 miles south where we live. But the fact there was a a "ALL VEGAN BAKERY" we have really been jonesing to try it . Because of the distance to travel just for a "cup of joe" we did not make the effort until recently. When we walked in the atmosphere was great. Built into an old house there just not any way it couldn't be homey. We decided on the spot to go beyond our normal mocha and singl treat each and we decided to make it a food review and purchased the following:

Vegan Butterfinger
Double chocolate muffin
Espresso chip muffin
Apple cake
Chocolate chip cookie
Peanut butter cookie
Carrot cake cupcake
Lemon cupcake
Pesto pretzel bagel
faux cheeze cheddar bagel

We nibbled all of these things and then had proper mochas made with homemade cashew milk!

In California we lived near a college town and our normal "datenight" was to eat an a vegan restarant Walk across the street to a coffee shop with vegan options nad get a slice of really great chocolate cake. We would carry that down the block the coffee shop that had the right atmosphere to relax and enjoy a mocha with our cake. We called it the tri-fecta. MudPie offers sandwiches from another local all vegan place called FUD. So Mudpie offers our "tri-fecta" all in one place. For us its only down sides are the distance and we enjoy sofas we can sink into. While there is plenty of seating upstairs and down, a few more sofas and padded chairs would be nice. I give them as many stars as I can on any rating scale. Now if they could bottle up their establishment and replace all the Starbucks of the world someone would be rich....

Pros: Great service and friendly staff, Awesome, awesome vegan food, Excellent mochas/ Cashew milk makes it

Cons: Need more sofas, More locations would be great, No real cons.

Excellent Bakery - Edit

One of our favorite spots in Kansas City. Too bad it's really the ONLY option as we have had better in other locations across the country. Their breakfast choices on the weekend are good, and the partnership with FUD is helpful.

Pros: Only real option in KC, Consistently "good", Great local meet-up

Cons: Some things they make aren't the best., Updated interior shrunk room for line

Simple, yet fantastic all-vegan bakery! - Edit

I cannot say enough good things about Mud Pie.

I have been coming here ever since they opened and can't stress enough how amazing it is that an all-vegan bakery even exists in Kansas City. Amazing! First off, they have a great variety of non-dairy milks for use in coffee & tea drinks (hemp, oat, cashew, almond, soy, rice, coconut). My favorite bakery items include the Peanut Butter Rice Krispie treats, chocolate chip cookies, chai tea cupcakes, lemon blueberry cupcakes, & cheddar sausage scones.

They also do an excellent job on custom cakes, cupcake, and muffin orders! Reasonably priced too and free designs.

Really a must try if you're in Kansas City!

Hipster Hangout - Edit

My friend and I tried two desserts, a cupcake and nut bar. They were good but not spectacular. With a little freshness, this place could be awesome. Great to have a vegan bakery in KC -- sit outdoors if the weather is nice and watch the hipsters pass by.

Pros: Location, Novelty

Basic done well - Edit

I only had some of the bakery items and overall they were good. Very basic but done well. I had a blueberry muffin that was really good, great for breakfast because it wasn't too sweet or heavy like I've found a lot of vegan muffins to be. I had a French Toast cupcake that was good, very moist and lightly sweet. I also had a zucchini bread that was delicious. I had a PB cookie that was a little too tough and chewy. I had a cinnamon roll which was my least favorite, it was a little dry and there was no icing! I don't know if they forgot it or if it was supposed to come like that.
Very friendly staff too.

Pros: Great breakfast items

Absolutely Fantastic!!!! - Edit

So far *almost* everything I tried has been fabulous! The gluten-free blueberry muffins, GF choc cupcakes, GF choc chip cookie, PB cookies, zucchini bread (to die for!) and mini oreo cupcake (only 75 cents!). I was so delighted to hear that oreos are vegan- I had no idea! The best part about this bakery is that EVERYthing is vegan! No need to double check like you do at other bakeries and coffeehouses that offer only a few vegan items. The only thing I didn't care for was the Nut-seedies bar (not sure if that is what it is called, but you'll know if you see the name what I'm talking about). It was pretty dry, crumbly, and flavorless. Maybe just a bad batch? Oh well- everything else I've had was fantastic! Unfortunately, they don't give much of a discount if you buy in bulk- which is a total bummer. However, if you just want one or two treats per week it is totally worth it and cheaper than store-bought vegan and GF goods that are not nearly as yummy!

Pros: yummy!, Very friendly staff!

Cons: A little too pricey for bulk orders.

Tastes naughty but is very nice! - Edit

Mud Pie is all vegan and has tons of choices and home-made desserts. I've had the Choco-Banana cupcake and the chocolate bundt cake. Both of which were moist and rich and VEGAN! The drinks are great and they make their own sunflower milk and cashew milk in house. So delish.

Pros: Tasty, Great location and space, resonably priced

Cons: NONE!
