CLOSED: Mrs Marengo's

We went twice for breakfast over our weekend in London. Simple tasty food, good vegan choice even on sweet things.

Roughly equidistant from Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Rd and Picadilly Circus stations.
It's quite a small space (smaller than sister Mildred's) with interior all white. There are about five or six four seater bar tables, a bar and a couple of dinky tables outside.
I went during lunch time on a weekday and it was very busy. There was a queue at the counter to order and all seats were taken except for the seats outside right next to the traffic. In the end I managed to share a table with a group of others for a bit.

I ordered the stir fried vegetables with noodles. It smelt good for a moment but was rather tasteless. The good thing about it was it had quite a lot of big florets of broccoli which were just very lightly steamed. I was in a rush myself and in the end just picked them out and ate them leaving a big lump of the noodles.

Servers did their best under manic, cramped circumstances.

Value was okay at GBP7 for the noodles.

During lunchtime this place is probably generally best suited for close by workers getting food to takeaway. Afternoon tea may be a better bet. The cakes look very good but I haven't tried any so far..

Mildreds has great food, but the staff are always rude and dismissive. This sister cafe four doors down has much nicer staff and is cheaper too. Although it does some of the same main means as Mildreds, its forte is its plentiful and universally excellent desserts. The white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake I've had maybe six time and is probably the finest dessert ever created. If you're tired of the cheesecake (or if you want to give your arteries a varied challenge) then if the chocolate raspberry torte is available when you visit then do try that too with pouring cream (soya if you wanna keep it vegan). All things considered, easily the best cafe in London.

We happened upon this place while out and about one day. It's associated with the next door Mildred's and carries some of their staples. It seems like they're trying to appeal to diners wanting quality veg food in a quick and casual atmosphere.

We didn't have lunch there, but popped in to buy a slice of their vegan chocolate raspberry truffle cake to takeaway. It was absolutely delicious, although definitely rich. We got a large slice and it was still tough for two sharing to finish it. Not any actual cake, just truffley goodness!

I think this place is definitely worth popping in for lunch, although I'm not sure how fast the service will be. It took us over 5 minutes to place our order, get it, and pay for it.
