I didn’t rate the Dean’s establishments for vegan options in the past so was surprised and delighted to discover that Mr Deanes has a vegan menu. I would never have looked here if a friend had not suggested it for a birthday dinner with friends. I had tofu starter and red curry main. The portions were generous. The tofu was beautifully cooked- quite large pieces with a light and crunchy coating. Served on a generous bed of peppers and onions. The tofu itself was not well seasoned - it was great texture but not taste. The tase from the veg made up for that so a good dish overall. Our non vegan friends had very little veg with their starters so we were lucky. The curry was delicious. The rice had a great taste and light texture. My only slight negative was that it was exactly the same veg as the starter (onions and peppers). Again it was a generous portion and even though there wasn’t a protein in the curry we were full as we had tofu starters and generous portions. None of us had pudding as we were all full. The vegan pudding was only sorbet with fruit anyway so I wasn’t interested in paying for that in a fancy place that should be able to make a proper pudding or two without dairy. It was a lovely evening although the acoustics are noisy. I hope they add more to the vegan menu or change it every few months so that we can return again. I will keep an eye on their website as I want somewhere nice in Jan for a special dinner. Definitely worth a go. Prices were good for a posh place.
