Cute place

Decent amount of vegan options. Relaxed vibe. Tons of games to play while having drinks.

Misleading menu

I ordered a pumpkin curry, one of two vegan options on the menu, using the frustrating and time-consuming online ordering system (the only option for ordering). I marked that I had an egg and milk allergy, (since there was no option to mark vegan), even though I figured this was overkill, since I was ordering a dish marked vegan. Thank goodness I did—the server came to me and explained that the focaccia, which is part of the dish (a dish that is, again, marked vegan), has egg and milk. Our server said he was not able to take the price off of the focaccia off my total, but luckily, the bartender was a lot more helpful, and did it in about two seconds. (Not sure of the bartender’s name, but he rocks)

This was a disappointing experience. I love the idea of this place—so cool to have a dedicated space to gather and eat and play games! But if I came here to play, I might eat beforehand at Next Level Burger (conveniently right next door!) so I knew what I was getting was definitely vegan.

It's a shame. I was also frustrated by the (new) ToastTab ordering. I recognize that it can be convenient for everyone, but the paper menu is much easier to parse. The focaccia thing gives me real pause. It is definitely part of the dish and the dish is definitely not, like, "vegan option": it's marked vegan on the physical menus (which you can still ask for).

Again, a real shame. I like Mox a lot, and plan to ask about the focaccia next time I'm in.

Affordable late night excellence

I love Mox unabashedly and have introduced many friends, family, and acquaintances over a dozen or so visits, sampling most of the old vegan menu and much of the new one. Food, drinks, atmosphere, and staff are generally excellent. There's a good, diverse crowd here. I think the fact that you enter through a game shop and most patrons are actively playing games might throw some people, so to be clear: you don't have to play a game (though they'll happily lend you one)...no one is going to look at you funny if you're just here for the food and booze and good company.

The vegan dishes are fully integrated in a well-wrought, chef-crafted menu, rather than being an afterthought, and usually land near the (moderately high) mark. Ingredients are fresh and creative. Reportedly, the kitchen takes pains to avoid cross-contamination. Prices are quite reasonable for the high quality of food and setting. Cocktails and beer/cider list are excellent (drinks aren't marked as vegan, however).

Staff are friendly, happy, and knowledgeable...don't be afraid to ask questions. The dining room itself, styled as kind of a French bistro/café, is spacious, beautiful, and comfortable, designed for patrons to linger.

I especially appreciate the late-night hours (the kitchen is open until 11:30 every night), one of the few restaurants in the neighborhood that will host you until midnight.

Pros: Great food, Great staff, Great atmosphere

Cons: Noisy when busy

Vegan/vegetarian restaurant, bonus for gamers

Mox boarding house is a brand new space and beautifully done in a fancy 1920’s elegant style. It’s unusual feature is that it’s connected to a large gaming store. But the food speaks for itself, as it is very good, and they have a full bar as well. They have fully vegan options such as a quinoa burger, a Caribbean grain bowl, a baharat tofu sandwich (if you hold the feta), hummus platter, and brussel sprouts as an appetizer. They also have vegetarian options such as the tofu sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, cheddar mac and cheese, fennel salad, a roasted cauliflower appetizer, and desserts like chocolate pudding and ricotta cheesecake. As for their bar, excellent cocktails, and lots of beer on draft. Love it here!

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian options , Full bar with great cocktails and draft beers, Connected to an amazing gaming store
