Amazing! - Edit

If you're looking for Indian food in Cairns, go to Mother India. They were very accommodating to me as a vegan. The samosas are delicious, the prices are reasonable, and everything was wholesome.

Pros: food, price, vegan options

Cons: beer/wine selection could have been better

Fantastic restaurant! - Edit

We went there twice in our holiday because it was just so good. There are many vegetarian options and all of them can be made vegan - you just have to ask.
The owner even came to our table to make sure we got the right food. It was delicious and everyone was so nice!
Would definitely eat here again if I ever come back to Cairns.

Mother India - Edit

we love Mother India - it has a wide variety of vegetarian dishes and they are made with clean ingredients we recommend the Baigan Adreke (eggplant) and the Kum lazeez (mushroom) and the Malai Kofta. The owners are long time locals and make genuine food, they do gluten free lactose free and don't put sugar in the curries. It is the only place that we can really go in Cairns for an evening meal. Often we will call in there after we close at Lafew Teahouse and kombucha bar very convenient as we are almost neighbours!

The Veg Samosas Though! - Edit

Best Vegan Samosas I have seriously ever had. And I eat a lot of Indian food! The atmosphere is pleasant and then staff is so cute and awesome with vegan options. :) I really recommend coming here for dinner if you are in town!

Best Indian I've had! - Edit

I'm a vegetarian but my boyfriend is a meat-eater. We both love Indian food but neither of us have a high tolerance for spiciness. Every dish was completely customizable so we had it not spicy at all which was great! Usually when it's labeled mild it is still spicy but this restaurant actually made it non-spicy. The vegetarian options were plentiful and delicious! My boyfriend loved his meat dish. Definitely our favourite place to go!

Pros: lots of vegetarian options, delicious, friendly staff

Cons: service was a little slow

very nice - Edit

3 vegans, lots of choices for us. The proprietor was able to explain which dishes were vegan, and which could be made vegan. The parathurs and rotis were vegan but not the naan bread. We had everything at medium heat, and that suited all of us. With good company we had a lovely evening. Recommended.

Pros: welcoming and friendly service. good food.

Cons: none really.

Great option in Cairns - Edit

This Indian is a great vegetarian/vegan option for an evening meal in Cairns. The owner has a good understanding of vegan requirements and most of the vegetarian curry's can be made vegan as the gravy is made on site. The curry isn't swimming in oil and is flavoursome, you can choose how hot you like it (medium was on the hotter end of our tolerance scale so it possibly runs a little hotter than other Indian places). As mentioned in previous reviews, the naan is not vegan as it contains dairy however the roti are great and the servings are generous so it wasn't really missed. Great customer service and reasonably priced for a tourist spot.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Not open on Mondays

Food was so good I had no time to use the fork - Edit

Mother India offers many vegetarian options that can be made vegan including roti bread. They also have Oxford Landing vegan wine available. Very busy, takes a while to get fed but totally worth it, the food is insanely good.

Pros: Insanely good food, Many options, Vegan wine available

Cons: Wait for the food is long

Pretty good - Edit

This place was pretty awesome. The waitress was super helpful as was the manager. They have a sign on their door saying that they can make things vegan or gluten free. The food was pretty tasty however, ALL of the naan bread has dairy in it. The owner tried to assure us that the tiny bit of yogurt they use in the bread was for the dough culture only, but I wasn't convinced. Dairy is still dairy. We didn't order the naan. Food was well cooked and flavorful but took forever to come out. We weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter but it might be something to consider if you have a time restriction.

Pros: Good food, Honest chef

Cons: Slow service, No vegan naan

Yummy Indian, friendly service - Edit

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Cairns, because not only is the food good but the service is very friendly. You will probably be greeted by the owner and he always has time for a chat with his regulars. The food is typical north-indian, with rich curries and lovely naan breads and everything else you'd expect. There is a section of the menu for vegetarian dishes, not sure about vegan.

Pros: Friendly, Delicious indian food, central location

Cons: nowhere to sit outside

Good takeaway - Edit

While on vacation in Nov 2009, we stopped in one evening to get takeaway back to our hotel. The waitress didn't immediately know which vegetarian items had dairy or not, but she went back into the kitchen to ask. We got the samosas, khumb lazeez (mushroom with tomatoes and onions) and some rice. The service was quick and they offered us water while we waited. While the food was really tasty, most of the veggie items contained dairy, so it wasn't really different from any other Indian place to us.

Pros: quick friendly service, tasty food

Cons: serves meat and only a few vegan items
