Very handy little shop - Edit

Mother Earth is a little market stall packed with all sorts of healthy and interesting groceries. It's my first choice for buying any dry, bagged foods, like spices, flours, pulses and grains. They have no fridge or freezer, so no chilled or frozen food is sold, but this is a good thing because that kind of distribution network requires a lot of energy, and hence CO2 emissions to run.

Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, Reasonable prices

Cons: Limited range

Pulsating - Edit

Formerly known as the Health Cabin, this is a compact tightly packed store in the traditional Durham Indoor Market. Always good to see a meat free zone in these typically British establishments. Good for dry foodstuffs such as pulses, flour, dried fruits and preserves. They also have an impressive selection of herbs and spices including Hungarian smoked paprika which is excatly why I went there in order to make a moussaka later on that evening. If you're in Durham, you might as well pop in but don't go especially.

Pros: good stock, central location

Cons: meat sellers nearby
