Best place to come with a diverse group

Offer great variety of cuisines and portray very good options for Belgian cuisine. My favourite is the vegan stew "stoofvlees". Often come where when friends from abroad come over. Cocktails are great too!

Great vegan options

It’s a travel themed restaurant with a cool interior to match. They have quite a few vegan options and because of the theme these are from different cuisines ie Flemish stew, Moroccan tagine, tacos, Lebanese salad. They even have a vegan cheesecake for dessert. I got the vegan stew and it was delicious, as was the dragon in the clouds cocktail. If I came back to Ghent I’d definitely visit again.

Pros: Labelled vegan options, Good location, Delicious food

Great vegan stew

They have a vegan stew with potatoe croquettes, veganaise and a small salad, since many years. Was already good, but now got even better.
They have some other vegan options as well.

Ver friendly waiters!

Great Jackfruit Taco's & Cozy Interior

It was a very cute spot with a cozy interior and a separate terrace on the other side. They also had a few rooms that were tailored to traditional middle-eastern cultures. A few very nice vegan options, I enjoyed the Jackfruit Taco's a lot and I'm often quite critical of how Jackfruit is prepared!

Pros: Cozy place, yet spacious inside area, Great Taco's

Cons: Average pricing

Leuke plek!

Pros: Leuke atmosfeer , Voldoende vegan opties , Vriendelijke bediening

Best dining experience in Ghent

A restaurant in Ghent with somewhat attentive service? Get out of here!
Joking aside...we had a lot of fun here. The food was excellent. I would give it 5 stars if HappyCow would allow it. The food had actual seasoning in it. The vegan stew and croquettes were dynamite. We loved Mosquito Coast.

Heerlijke stoof, maar dan zonder dierenleed!

Heel fijn om iets van deze plek te kunnen eten, maar dan wel op mijn voorwaarden. Bediening was ook heel vriendelijk.

Great for cocktails and dinner

Loved the stoverij, the falafel is great too! Awesome cocktails and of course great decor

Edit 2022: have also had the vegan “pulled pork” tacos, they are also delicious, though a less heavy meal.

Pros: Great stoverij, Great cocktails, Atmosphere, interior design

Vegan stew

This place is larger than you would expect. My friends and I had a table upstairs. I went for the vegan stew and was not disappointed (I mean, how could you be disappointed when you get vegan croquettes and vegan mayonaise?)

A good option for mixed groups of friends.

Pros: vegan croquettes and mayonaise

a delicious meal

The vegan option is quite tasty, maybe it could be a little bit wider. But highly recommended, the site has a decorated interior interesting.

Cons: Limited options vegetarian

Not cheap, but definitely worth it

Best place in Ghent to go with omni's! They have 2 vegan dishes: the seitan stew (sooooo good!!!) and the "pulled porc" taco's (also very good), there are also some other vegetarian dishes veganizable and everything is very well labeled on the menu.
The staff is also very friendly and the restaurant is beautifully decorated! I've been here now 5 times I think and I'm definitely going back! Love this place

Pros: Friendly staff, 4 vegan options (I think?), Nice decorations

Cons: Not cheap

Good place

They usually have several vegan options and they taste great. Good if there are also meat eaters in your company, but there are definitely a lot of places in Ghent that offer better vegan food.
The place gets really crowded, especially during weekends so it's best to book in advance

Cons: Too busy sometimes

Good atmosphere!

Another place that’s hard to rate. Mosquito Coast is a huge travel-themed place with a large choice of international dishes but very little vegan choices. I had the vegan seitan stew, which I didn’t like. I wanted to try it to eat something "typical Belgian"… but the sauce with dark beer was rather disgusting, in my opinion. Anyway, in general this is a nice place, they can also veganise other dishes. Staff is very friendly and the atmosphere was good. Also have a good selection of Belgian beers. This is a restaurant and a bar in one – so you could also go there just for some cocktails/drinks and small snacks. The food is rather expensive.

Not the best "stoverij"

Friendly staff immediately recognized us as being vegan (I was wearing a hoodie with the vegan logo on it), and we received a summery of all vegan dishes and dishes that could be made vegan. I had my mind set on the "stoverij" for many months.

It was good, but not the best. The veganaise was very nice! For the price, I think it wasn't worth it.

Cons: A bit pricey

One of my favourite places in Ghent

I have been to this place more times than I can remember, and I've never been disappointed.

Their menu might not look super vegan-friendly at first sight, but if you ask the amazing staff, they will be able to tell you which dishes are vegan and which vegetarian dishes can be veganised. So don't hesitate to ask!

I adore their portobello mushroom burger with guacamole ("MacMariachi"), but they also often serve vegan suggestions (as one of their staff members is a vegan).

This travel-themed café and restaurant has a great, relaxed vibe and is often very busy (so if you have the opportunity, try to book a table in advance to be sure). They also have a courtyard and a terrace in the front. Highly recommended!

Pros: Great atmosphere, Delicious food, very varied, Considerate and friendly staff

Cons: Can get very busy (and a bit noisy), Not the cheapest (but great value)

Seitan stew and portobello burger

This is from a visit at the end of 2016.

The seitan stew with croquettes (17€ - which is is bit overpriced) is vegan.
Some of the other vegetarian dishes can easily be veganised (eg the portobello burger).
Nice food.

It is more a pub style restaurant than a ‘restaurant’, and not so good comfort (wooden chairs, small tables).
Also a stuffed zebra head on the wall ...

Large terraces at the back (and also one in front).
Service was very friendly.

Pros: seitan stew dish, 3 terraces

Cons: stuffed zebra head, comfort
