Fantastic food, good options - Edit
We ordered the walnut banana pancakes, almond milk French toast, Tofu scramble, sheldon sandwich, and slice of strawberry rhubarb pie. The serving sizes were large enough to feel full and potentially have extra. Everything was well seasoned, hot and served quickly.
Read moreService was quick and friendly while also leaving you be to enjoy your food and company.
While we enjoyed the dishes we ordered, we are excited to try other vegan options they offer. Added bonus, they have veganaise as an option whereas many restaurants don’t have that ever! I would highly recommend, also kid friendly.
Pros: Plenty of vegan options, Well seasoned large portions , Great for vegans and meat eaters to share a meal

Diner with extensive vegan menu - Edit
The vegan menu includes everything from sandwiches, appetizers and salads to multiple dessert options. The Beyond burger, falafel wrap and waffle fries were all great and very reasonably priced. We highly recommend the fruit pies...the strawberry-rhubarb was some of the best we've ever had.

Great diner stop. - Edit
Lots of vegan options to choose from, and probably the largest vegan desert menu I’ve ever seen. You can order ahead online and pickup when it’s ready. We got standard greasy diner type sandwiches. Would try some of the lighter options in the future!

Not for me. - Edit
The vegan options during my visit felt limited and expensive. The meal and the milkshake weren’t bad. Didn’t feel very welcomed. Surprise charge for take out utensils was a bit frustrating on principle (especially since I had my own utensils).

Extensive vegan menu - Edit
We found this place for lunch on our way back to St. Paul from Chicago. It's pretty close to the interstate, which was nice. There is a separate vegan menu and it's pretty extensive, including all-day breakfast items like tofu scramble and pancakes and desserts like pies, brownies and shakes.
Read moreMy wife had a falafel wrap which she said was great. I had a very different Vegan Heathen Delight, which is portabelo mushrooms and tempeh on a hoagie roll. It was really different and excellent. If you like mushroom stroganoff, get it.
Also, the ambience is an old 50's diner with booths and stools, which is really cool.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Beer, Desserts and breakfast food
Cons: Nothing

Good but missing a bit - Edit
I ordered the vegan scrambled tofu breakfast. First I was bummed about not getting any jam or vegan butter for my toast. The tofu was seasoned well and the veggies in it were a nice addition. The tempeh was a little overcooked but it happens. The potatoes could have used a little more spice but that could be a personal preference.

Pros: Good size vegan menu, Good amount of veggies, Plenty of food for the money
Cons: Missed on the details, Just okay seasoning

Great Diner! - Edit
Absolutely loved this diner. Had an extensive menu of vegan options, for breakfast, lunch and dessert. We ordered the sheldon (which had an amazing thousand island), the caesar salad, and the big vegan breakfast. They were all great. Would definitely come back!

Yummy, crumbly - Edit
We went to Monty's for the first time just for dessert, to enjoy the hard-to-find vegan brownie sundae. Atmosphere was of course very fun and staff was friendly. The brownie itself was crumbly and a little dry, but that really didn't matter with such a generous scoop of ice cream on top!

Vegan comfort food - Edit
Monty's is always a delightful experience when you're looking for good vegan comfort food at a reasonable price. They are small and local, and their brownies are worth buying several to take home. Dogs are lowed on the patio in the warmer months, and as a bonus, Bad Dog Frida, an amazing local dog shop, is right across the street from Monty's. I recommend visiting both in the same trip!

Cons: Often a wait for seating. It's very popular.

What a let down - Edit
We expected much more from this place. I ordered the almond milk french toast which came cold and burnt - so burnt that the bitterness of it made my boyfriend gag when he tasted it. They also gave me two end pieces of the already thinly-sliced bread, and there wasn't anything else on the plate so the price was not justified. At home the next day, I made toast and put vegan butter on it which was a much tastier meal... My boyfriend ordered the Sheldon (Reuben sandwich) with waffle fries. The sandwich was fine; however, the cheese slice they put on was not melted and they put the sauce on the side. The fries were hot and crispy, but it's pretty hard to mess up fries. We also ordered a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie to go; it tasted okay but the piece was rather small and haphazardly thrown into a container.

Cons: Food was subpar at best, Had to wait a while and half the food was cold

Bland food - Edit
They had a lot of vegan options but the food was bland. I got the vegan scramble with tempeh hash, and my vegetarian husband got their veggie omelette with potatoes. Everything was under seasoned and bland (even though they warned me the hash was spicy, it had little flavor).
Read moreThe vibe in this place is a cute old school throwback and it’s awesome they have so many vegan menu items that are clearly marked. But the food didn’t hold up once ordered.
Also, there was some inconsistency in labeling. The almond milk French toast which others have said here is vegan was marked vegetarian. I didn’t ask which it was because I wasn’t going to order it. The veggie has has a clear “make vegan with tofu scramble” text but for those just scanning the codes it isn’t marked as veganizable.
When I ordered the hash made vegan it came out with eggs, so I had to send it back. The server was apologetic but it’s worth noting occasional kitchen screwups. Glad it wasn’t something harder to notice that got messed up!

Great food but too loud - Edit
The food was great and so thankful for the vegan options ( even brownies and pies). But it was so loud that we rushed just to get out. Plus they left out two main ingredients in my burrito and didn’t tell me ( tempeh and guacamole). Our Server didn’t come back before we finished so couldn’t fix it. Apparently they were out of tempeh. Again the food was great but I would go at a slow time so you can enjoy the food.

I ordered a vegan french toast and it was soggy in some places, and hard in others. I thought it tasted a little burnt. If I ever go back I would order something different. Service was nice, and it wasn't too pricey.

Separate vegan menu - Edit
Everything in their vegan menu is so so so good. I usually order breakfast no matter the time of day but the heathen vegan and artichoke sandwiches are both stellar. I’m not a fan of Falafel wraps ever so when I had it it was fine but I’m giving it a full four starts for also offering vegan shakes and brownies.

I would not get it again. It was sloppy to eat, and had too much tofu IMO

Impossible burger - Edit
I had to try the Impossible Burger since they don't have it where I live. I'm glad I got to try it. The patty is great, but the almond cheese they use wasn't great. It would have been better without. They also use a harder, smaller bun than the non-vegan burgers. Glad I subbed the breakfast potatoes, they were great.

Love the atmosphere of this place! They have a separate vegan menu which is super awesome and it's HUGE! Wish I lived in Madison so I could try everything! I had the Heathen Vegan Shoplifter's Delight and it was really good. The lemon tahini dressing was really surprising - though it was a real mess to eat. We were totally stuffed after this meal!
