wish I’d come here first - Edit

Two other local places had incorrect info on Happy Cow and ended up elsewhere then found this place for a late lunch. Wish I’d come here first!!
Yummy selection of food and even a case of vegan desserts!!
I had a cute little chia pudding and fresh juice which was yummo! Moderately to high priced for what it was.
I think they’ve revamped because service was friendly and fast, all meals coming out of the kitchen looked fresh and wholesome and colourful, and atmosphere is lovely!
Would def come back if I get another opportunity (wasn’t hungry enough for the vegan French toast this time but it looked amazing..!)

A Rainbow of Delicious! - Edit

All the food is so bright, colourful and delicious. So many wonderful vegan options which are clearly marked of the menu - and vegan kid's meals hallelujah!
The service can be slow, so not a place to go when you are in a rush, but the food is definitely worth the wait.

simply yummo - Edit

Tried the "Indian breakfast" but tried the vegan option of scrambled tofu. For this non-veg guy it was all amazing. Mildly spiced potato's, scrambled tofu, home made pita & chilli sauce. A perfect meal.
Definitely worth stopping in or even going out of your way to try.

Pros: friendly, airy, yummy

our go to place - Edit

Although not vegan this cafe has a good selection od options for breakfast lunch and treats.

They care about quality wholefood and the staff are always welcoming and helpful.

Best soy chai in Newcastle brewed on site.

healthier please - Edit

I like a lot about this cafe but don't eat here often even, though I'm about a 5 minute walk away. In general, it is too expensive and much too greasy. Also, I really can't believe that they don't filter their water.

Pros: big space, gluten-free and vegan options

Cons: no juices, no internet , water not filtered

Bad Service Great Food - Edit

I love Momos. Unfortunately I find the service TERRIBLE. I have been here multiple times yet I am never greeted, was never told it isn't table service and the girls don't even bring water to the table! They are not busy either they stand behind the counter talking yet don't greet customers. It's sad because the place has a lot of potential and everybody who has been here and said the same thing.

Sexy Salad - Edit

This is a great cafe - very nice setting, great menu, good location, decent prices (expensive, but good value for your money, in my opinion).

If you enjoy a warm cafe with high ceilings, great decor (Instagram-worthy) and nice seating, topped with a great menu (quality local/organic produce), then this is the place for you.

I ordered a ‘small’ salad (a veggie bowl with the salads of the day for $8). To my surprise, it was actually quite a large serving of salad (after expecting a stingy amount). It included beetroot, pumpkin, chickpeas, and other toppings (YUM). Overall, a great salad with quality ingredients

It is definitely a great destination for fellow vegans and vegetarians, as the menu is dedicated to catering for ALL requirements (raw included!).

A likely concern is the pricing. As I mentioned, the cheapest item of the menu was a small, $8 salad. This is excluding appetizers like a $4 rice paper roll and expensive raw vegan cakes. If you are looking for a quick meal with a lower price range, you may be better off looking at other veg places in Newcastle. However, I will say that the place has good portion sizes for the price, considering the cafe aims to provide the highest quality local/organic ingredients.

Pros: Quality ingredients, Great decor, Perfect location

Cons: Expensive

Unexpected quality find. - Edit

I found Momo Wholefood on HappyCow as the only listing in the Maitland/Hunter area. They offer a fantastic vibe, lovely service and pure/delicious vegetarian food.

Both my visits I've had the salad plate mix(can't go past the colours!), which is filling and so tasty. The daily specials look great, everything is so professionally presented and appealing.

Coffee, great chai and a range of innovative other drinks make the menu complete. The juices are fresh and intense in flavour. Homemade almond milk too. Lots of vegan options.

The raw vegan dessert slices were mind-blowing - a had the caramel slice and a lime slice. My staunchly Omni BF loved everything too.

Plus the location in the Organic Feast shop means you have a Vego paradise! That place is fantastic.

They do serve meat, but you can tell that everything is prepped separately, the staff really know what they are doing and this comes through in the quality of the food.

Pros: Many vegan options, Amazing raw desserts, Delicious drinks and main meals.

Cons: Serves some meat.

Best place for veg and vegan options in the Hunter - Edit

I have to be honest straight up and say that I am the owner of the business, so my review may be a little biased... but I am also a vegetarian and have been one for 20 years - so I know what it is like to be a vegetarian looking for great places to eat...
At Momo we are not 100% vegetarian - but we serve primarily vegetarian food, and also cover a lot of options for vegans as well. We are conscious of the needs of vegetarian/vegan diners. (Any meat that we do serve has been ethically farmed on local organic farms and we know the owners and how they have raised the animals.
Popular options are our felafel and salad plates.. a vegan, gluten free felafel served with our daily salads - 4 fresh organic vegan salads that change daily.
Our vegetarian curries are also a popular choice and we also sell Byron Bay vegan and veg pies.
In desserts we cater for vegan options with our delicious raw sweets - brownies, lemon tarts, raspberry cheesecakes and more... all of which are pure vegan, 100% organic and completely raw.
You would be hard pressed to find any restaurant in the Newcastle/Hunter area that caters for veg and vegans to the level that we do at Momo and I am certain that you will love our food..

Pros: organic + delicious, friendly, great value

Cons: closed sundays, only friday night dinners
