Busy restaurant

There are plenty of good cheap dishes available at this big busy restaurant. When I dined here it was crowded and noisy but my food still arrived promptly. There is no English menu.

Pros: affordable, fast service, tasty

Cons: busy, noisy, shabby, no English menu

A bustling place full of delicious dishes

A spacious place loved by the locals, an extensive menu (no english but google translate is your friend here!) take a menu, choose a seat (if eating in) and mark your order on the menu. Take your menu to the counter to order. Food is cooked fresh to order and will be brought to your table. It can get quite loud if you have audio sensitivity as it is an open kitchen, but I cannot recommend the food enough.

A local gem in Taichung.

Modern Vegetarian has been serving Taiwanese / Chinese vegan dishes for over 30 years. Popular with locals, this casual, no-frills restaurant offers an extensive menu, featuring a variety of cold appetizers, herbal soups, noodle dishes, dumplings, rice dishes, vegetarian "meat" dishes, casseroles and hot pots. English is not spoken, and the menu is in Chinese only, so it's best to bring a Taiwanese friend with you (you can also point to dishes that other diners are enjoying). Free outdoor parking. Dine in or take out.

.

Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, well-prepared food., Generous portions

Cons: Chinese-only menu, Cash only, Informal, no frills
