The Best Vegan Restaurant - Edit
I have been coming here for some time and the food is always amazing here. I love the burgers. I recommend bringing your non-vegan friends because they won't tell the difference. Try the deserts as well.

Delicious nachos and yummy carrot cake - Edit
I loved the jackfruit nah-chos
Read morefried jackfruit carnitas with black beans, tomato, green onion, avocado & cilantro on fresh homemade tortilla chips, smothered in creamy vegan nacho cheese & drizzled with homemade cilantro-lime cashew ranch. The 24K carrot cake was super yummy - a moist 3-layer carrot cake with vegan buttercream frosting!
Pros: Friendly staff, Nice atmosphere, Vegan!

Modern Sha-meh - Edit
Friendly staff and nice environment, but the food is very underwhelming, especially for how expensive it is. Loaded fries were the best item we had. Menudo was very bland and the $22 chicken sandwich is pretty much just a gardein patty. Very disappointing 😩

Doing cartwheels over their Vegan Corndogs! - Edit
Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, but I flip out over their corndogs, and I'm a 70s kid who missed corndogs for many years. The last time I had animal meat in my body was the 1980s.... so no corndogs for a good 30 years. They are amazing and in fact I'm craving one as I type this review. Everything about Modern Shaman is fabulous.... but I had to give a huge shoutout to the corndogs!

Every Bite Was Epic! - Edit
There were so many selections on the menu! I was at an event and there were no Vegan Food options. I pulled up Happy Cow and they were on the list. The name caught my eye and the menu hooked me. Would love to visit the location next time! I ordered the Jackfruit Nachos and the Po’ Boi Sandwich. So. Damn. Good. If you can’t tell from my profile, ima pizza guy. For not being pizza, this did not disappoint! You need to go.

Pros: All Vegan!!, They deliver! , So many options!
Cons: Almost too many options to choose just 1 or 2!, Little pricey (still worth it) , Only one location! Lol

Tasty Concoctions - Edit
Get the Spirit Animal! This huge burger comes with bacon AND mac-n-cheese! It’s my favorite. The No Clucks Given is also tasty- a burger take on mashed potatoes, chicken, and gravy. The salads are tasty, and the desserts never disappoint. The staff are always friendly. Weekends they tend to get busy so if you want to eat right away, make a reservation to stave off the Hanger. Fun fact: the owners own The 6740 pub next door.

Not the best, wouldn’t go back - Edit
I ordered the vegan Mac and cheese and the truffle fries with two black teas that came in bottles. Both the fries and the Mac were unnecessarily expensive, I’ve been to places with better Mac that costs way less, and the fries barely had any parmesan or cashew créme sauce. Really disappointed and wasted $35.

Cons: Expensive , Fries basically came with no parmesan or sauce , Online order placed at 12:33 pm, ready at 1:08

Nice find in downtown Whittier - Edit
Nice appetizer of loaded fries cheezy style.
Read moreThe oy po'boy was a nice size sandwich. Tasted great but I already love most oyster mushroom dishes.
Lots of fried chicken options but I avoided since others mentioned they use a commercial Gardein patty. I always liked to look for what a restaurant can create from their own recipes.
Did find the mac and cheese disappointing with a few chicken strips and not much flavor and was a bit watery.
Pros: Not just communal seating
Cons: Expensive for the quantity, Only a single server for the floor

Good Food!!! - Edit
The food was good but like everyone else mentioned the meal was pricey. The service was decent!!! The horchata kombucha tasted like black licorice in which I do not like black licorice. I would come back if I’m in the area.

Tastes good but it’s $20 for a gardien patty - Edit
I’ve been here several times and the nachos and the Mac and cheese chicken burger were so good. However when asking my server I was told that the chicken patty they use is gardien but they make their own batter. Tastes delicious but it doesn’t feel right spending that much money on gardien. I would go back for the nachos though, those were great.

Good food, atmosphere, and service - Edit
I really enjoyed my meal here, you can tell alot of thought and care is put into the dishes as they are flavorful and the textures work really well. I went with my sister who is an omnivore and she had the Po'boy made with oyster mushrooms... the fried mushrooms reminded us both of the fried catfish strips we used to eat at our favorite seafood restaurant when we were kids. I had the No Clucks Given faux chicken sandwich. I thought the breading was perfectly light and crispy and the addition of mashed potatoes made it taste extra savory. A bonus was that the waiter (who did a great job) came by to give us a free sample of their seasonal pumpkin soup! If youre in the Whittier area, i highly recommend this place, especially if you want to impress, or possibly convince, an omnivore :)

Delicious food with a hip atmosphere. - Edit
Brought a party of 12 here for a family lunch. The servers were very attentive and accommodating. The menu was varied and everything looked delicious. I ordered the fried lionsmane po’ boy sandwich with a side salad. Very scrumptious. Even the non-veg family members all raved about their food and said they would go back.

Modern Shaman - Edit
Pretty little space in uptown Whittier, the Chinese “it isn’t” chicken salad is great... ask for extra dressing on the side. The vegan menudo is good enough even for serious Mexican non veg. people!!! No clucks given burger is heavy but delicious, could probably split between two people.

Great atmosphere, food, and service! - Edit
The restaurant is small but it makes the dining experience more intimate. The atmosphere is really calm and makes you feel at ease. The tea was absolutely amazing!
Read moreThe jackfruit carnitas tacos were good however they forgot to exclude the green onion and cilantro sauce so I didn't get to enjoy the nachos as much as my husband did. I ordered the Oy! Po'boy sandwhich and my husband ordered the No Clucks Given chicken sandwhich. Both were amazing and filling. The No Clucks Given is made with housemade gravy sauce and turmeric mashed potatoes and it's an explosion of flavor! Finally we finished off our meal by sharing a bananas foster, sweet enough to satisfy but not overindulge. The food is light enough where you leave completely satisfied and not miserably overfed.
I honestly do not like it when servers check in on you multiple times during your meal. Not here! The servers were really chill and did not hover over us. That act lets you enjoy your food without feeling like you're being rushed.
