Cool place cool staff so many vegan options

Really nice place to come hang out a bit. It's a shame they're not open in the evenings. The superfood salad was really nice and fresh, the coffee was good. It's very comfortable here. I want to try the fish and chips

Pros: Safe space, Cool , Lots of vegan options

Cons: Not 100% vegan

Dunedin's best.

Amazing selection of vegan food. We had the vegan fish and chips and cauliflower burger and an ice coffee and all of it was bomb. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere.

Vast amount of vegan options

You can always find something vegan in the cabinet or on the menue. I feel like the taste of their vegan dishes was better when I was there regularly 10 years ago but it's still pretty decent!

LOVED the Cinnamon Roll, Snickers Bar and Coffee. Would definitely go back to try some savoury options too if I find myself in Dunedin again. Super friendly staff too 😍🌟

Good

Nice food, nothing super exciting. The vegan snickers is worth a try though. I felt like the meals were a bit small but maybe that’s because the place next door had such massive servings.

Classic spot

Modaks has offered great vegan options for a long time, and still has lots of options available. The coffee and food here is always good, though they don’t have as many sweet options as they used to.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Vegan friendly before many others were

Spoilt for choice with vegan options!

A funky wee cafe with a huge amount of vegan options - both savoury and sweet. An impressive sweet cabinet which majority of the food is vegan! Also has a savoury cabinet and a menu. An extensive amount of vegan options, quite reasonably priced and delicious food too. A great place to go for an informal breakfast/brunch/lunch. Was blown away by the range of vegan options - not your typical one-hit wonder vegan option on the menu.

Pros: A lot of vegan options, Funky atmosphere, Good food

Lots of options.

This place has been around a long time, offering vegan options before any other place in Dunedin really had options. It’s a solid choice for some breakfast!

Delicious!

A nice cafe to sit and focus on work or to chat with friends. I had the Hash attack bagel vegan style and it was delicious! Those mushrooms were amazing. The man behind the counter serving was also lovely and really brought sunshine to my day with just being a really nice welcoming person.

Pros: Lots of vegan options both meal and counter goods, Well priced, Friendly staff

Cons: None!

my fave

I went to modaks for brekkie a few times on my trip to dunedin, it was definitely my favourite out of the range of cafes I tried. Cool vibe, great service and really amazing food and coffee. I had the hash attack and the similar bagel equivalent on my next visit ( can't remember what it was called) I also had a cinnamon scroll which was amazing. Highly recommended.

Friendly, vegan-friendly place

Stopped there twice, on my short trip to Dunedin, and liked a lot the place (brick walls, silk-screen posters, cool furniture straight out of the 70s, good music...). The people were very friendly, and the breakfast I had was really good. Took the savory toast + avocado, etc, and made it healthier the second time by subbing baked beans for the hash browns.

In the cabinet, they had what seemed to be really good vegan options too!

Recommended!

Tasty Vegan Breakfast

We had a vegan menu breakfast here. A tasty start to the day and at $13 it was great value. The cabinet food here is varied and also looks great. The vegan desserts are divine! A 'must' visit if you're in Dunedin. Not open for dinner but the chef gave us a few tips for places to dine that are - cool cafe...cool staff!

Worth a second trip!

My first visit was just for a coffee (good) but after waiting in line as it was pretty busy I treated myself to the apricot-coconut protein bar, sugar free, gluten free, vegan, and it was amazing!
On my second visit I arrived later so after the lunch time rush and had a sandwich (stuffed full of tasty things on a lovely ciabatta type bun) and the line and coconut cupcake (good icing but the cake was a bit dry and tasteless). All pretty reasonably priced and big portions!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly service

Cons: Closes early, Can be very busy
