Latin
Previously a pop-up in a food hall reported closed March 2023. Moved into this stand alone restaurant space end of Dec. 2023. Upscale Latin food. Offers a 14-course tasting menu - look for the addition of a la carte items. Fancy Latin themed food, for example asado using mushrooms instead of beef. Reported open February 2024. Open Tue-Thu 5:00pm-10:00pm, Fri-Sat 5:00pm-11:00pm. Closed Sun & Mon.

Maintaining the star - Edit
It is a high end dining experience for sure. Beautiful setting. Lots of silverware and settings. Many courses. Lots of staff interaction that takes place over three hours. With all that said, only one course -- the soup -- was excellent. The other food was good, interesting, and unusual. Glad we went. For the price point, over $300 for the two of us, not in a rush to go back. I am glad to see a one star Michelin vegan restaurant in DC.

Loved It! - Edit
Well displayed tasty food. The 14 course was worth it. I’d pass on the alcohol pairing next time but take that with a grain of salt cause I’m not much of a drinker.

a vegetable experience like no other - Edit
I am so glad I found out about this place! The only plant-based restaurant in the entire DMV area with a Michelin star. We had the 14-course tasting menu. Happycow only allows 9 photos, so I can't upload the whole meal but I wish I could! The menu has four "acts". It began with prickly pear/tajin candies with edible rice paper wrappers. Then a hot cocoa with rum. Then 5 types of arepas (pictured) with 3 different dips... the cashew sour cream was sublime! That was the opening act. First act included the yuba, celery root, and black bean mole on a crisp (pictured), that has been posted elsewhere as it's on top of a glass box with money in it. Referring as an offering to ancestors. The next course was a delicious soup with fava beans and plantains, the recipe of the executive chef's grandmother. Then a watermelon, carrot, and avocado dish (pictured). I am not usually a watermelon fan but this type was good. Second act included coconut ceviche, a small bite with heart of palm and seaweed and tomato (pictured), and a main dish of roasted beet with wild rice and black truffle (pictured). Also a black bean tamale with trumpet mushroom (pictured, though the mushroom was way too salty - my only complaint of the entire meal). Third act included a melon, parsnip, and basil snack, a dessert with cherry and mochi (pictured, tribute to the DC cherry blossom trees), and a candy made of dulce de leche. We finished with a mango sorbet as it was a special occasion (off-menu). I had the tequila flight (very slowly throughout the meal), which complemented each dish. My partner, who is not a vegan, said it was the best meal she's ever had in the DMV area, ever! We got to talk to the owner/chef. All the servers were very gracious and happy to hear how much we loved the food. Plus, we met celebrity chef Pati Jinich, who was there seated at the table next to us and very kind when we thought we recognized her as someone we knew, but in reality we had seen her on TV! Just a coincidence that she was there. All the dishes are Latin inspired from all different countries in central and south America. Overall an unforgettable experience. Tasting menu was $150 per person when we went in April 2025, plus tax/tip etc. You won't regret going there!

Worth the splurge - Edit
I must admit that it was simple, dumb luck that I made a reservation to dine here about 2 weeks before they were awarded a Michelin Star. I also admit I initially hesitated because of the price; however, if you can swing it, the food and the experience are well worth it.
Read moreThis is a chic-casual, modern, upscale restaurant that serves some of the most unusual and creative cuisine I have had in the U.S. The space is hipster chic and there are masses of staff to see to your every need. [NOTE: they describe the food as "vegetable forward" and without "animal products" rather than "vegan" on their website.]
Because it is a set menu and others had already posted nice photos of each course, I only posted one of my mocktail - which was delightful. Sophisticated and not the typical sugar-bomb offering.
The focus is on Latin American-inspired food, and each course is accompanied with a simple back-story, delivered by the server. A very clever way to impart some of the historical and cultural context to their quest.
My advice is - GO!
Pros: 100% plant based menu, Inventive "vegetable forward" cuisine, Top notch service

Latin Vegan Tasting Menu - Edit
MITA is a wonderful experience with a focus on creative, plant-based, Latin cuisine. There are several options for the full tasting menu, or a 6-course or 4-course version. The arepas are a highly recommended optional addition, essentially like a bread service with multiple spreads. A cozy, intimate dining room with a bar and open kitchen, and cocktails and wine list that lean heavily toward the Latin American influence.

Incredible experience - Edit
Great food, great service, and absolutely incredible plating. We had the 6 course pre-set menu and it was a well-curated experience throughout. The servers shared the cultural roots of each dish, bringing an extra flair to the dinner.

Worth it to add an order of arepas to the tasting menu in my opinion. Incredibly tasty and interesting. Worth it for a splurge

Was this the $75 prix fixe menu? I thought the website showed 5 courses, any idea why you got 5?

Fantastic fine dining experience - Edit
I had been hearing a lot of buzz about MITA where "Latin vegetables and flavors take center stage," and finally got a chance to try it last night. It was fantastic! Absolutely loved it but am so sad that it's a pop-up that will be going away in early January. Maybe it will open somewhere else then, but if you want to sure to experience MITA, go as soon as you can. It's located inside La Coshecha (Latin American Marketplace near Union Market.)

Great tasting menu - Edit
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a 7 course vegan meal at Mita. The dining room is small, so make sure you have reservations. Each item was made to order in front of us (the kitchen is in the same room). The flavors we're well balanced and there were some really unique Latin American dishes. We had some great dishes like a vegan tuna crudo and a mushroom risotto. The meal was a bit pricey, but definitely comparable to other vegan tasting menus like Equinox or Fancy Radiah and less expensive than Elizabeth's Gone Raw. I would absolutely go back.

Not very tasty and $$$$ - Edit
I’m not impressed with this place. Very nice and fancy, yes but the food is so bland. The location is very expensive. No parking is free and will have to find a space. It is all up for grab. You expect that from DC anyway. The food is not edible. I will not eat again from there. I’m sorry for giving this place a bad review. I strongly believe vegan restaurants should earn 5 stars. 😢

Delicious, Latin-Inspired Cuisine - Edit
Mita is a small restaurant inside La Cosecha, a Latin collective of cafes and stores a block from Union Market in Northeast DC. It's a small glass cube, seating fewer than 20 people. The menu on the site is really a seven-course tasting menu of creatively cooked vegetables and grains. I'm still trying to decide which dish was my favorite. If you want a drink, you scan a QR code and order a drink from El Cielo, a bar in the collective. Although we made a reservation, it wasn't too busy for the first hour or so we were there.
Read moreIt is rather expensive, but it's an excellent deal for the money and an amazing culinary experience.

I love Mita. I have been multiple times and always leave satisfied.
