Yummy Desi food in HTX - Edit
Mirch Masala is a great spot for vegan Desi dishes. Their chana masala and samosas are to die for! Try one of their Dosas, too!

We found ourselves here after a google search for vegan friendly restaurants on our route from Austin to IAH. The interior looks a bit run down with plain decor but don't let that fool you. The food is excellent, service is good and the owner and chef are very friendly! The menu is long with many choices. We had samosas and another appetizer that was some kind of potato cake is a lovely green pea sauce. Very tasty!! For our main dishes we got a smoked eggplant dish that was incredible and a mung bean dal that was a bit bland but good mixed with the eggplant. We had a yummy fried bread to scoop with. All in all it was a delicious meal! If I lived in Houston I would be a regular here.

We recently dined at Madhuram Mirch Masala, and it was a great experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I am the world's biggest Gobi Manchurian fan, and theirs did not disappoint. It wasn't very spicy, but my copilot appreciated that. The menu is clearly marked with vegan and can-be-made-vegan options.
Read moreFYI: You place your order at the counter, and they bring it to your table when it is ready. We were able to just open a tab and add to it as needed, then pay at the end of our stay (hey, sometimes you need to wait and decide if you have room for more).
Another FYI: We were told during our visit that they will be opening an all-vegan restaurant next door to this one. Exciting!

They are very helpful when pointing out the vegan foods. The people are very friendly and take good care of you. The food, AMAZING! I gave it only four starts because the hours are inconvenient but I’ve noticed most restaurants with vegan options usually close at three and reopen at five. It sucks cuz I’ll be craving it and would want to eat there after picking my husband up from work but they’re closed at those hours. And coming here on off days sucks too cuz it’s so far away :(

After arriving to the Resturant I was trilled to see the menu had many options. Now the struggle began trying to figure out what to get...
The owner told me she would take care of me and suggested the Vegan Standard Combo. She even gave me a free sample of the vegan desert on the menu.
I had a 20 minute drive smelling the wonderful food as I took it to go. The food was worth the wait! Yummy and comforting meal. I will defiantly be back to try more items off the large menu.
There was only two people dinning at 8pm when I arrived but by the time I left it was 6 more people. Don’t let the lack of a crowd chase you away. Good quality food for a little money.

Great Indian restaurant with all the North and South Indian favorites. They customized our meal so that it would be vegan, with no garlic or onions, which is a really tall order at some restaurants. The lady at the counter was very nice and sweet but her accent was a little thick for people who aren't use to speaking with Desis. We got the Somosa appetizer which was crispy on the outside and the inside had a delicious potato and pea filling. The next dish was Aloo Ghobi with Roti and rice. The Dosa and Utthappam that came next were the stars of the meal. The Dosa was impressively large and crispy. The Utthappam was savory and moist. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the price was very reasonable. We will definitely come back! So happy there's an Indian vegan-friendly restaurant in Houston.

This is an all vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options. Everything vegan is labeled on the menu. My boyfriend, who is not a vegetarian or a vegan, loved it as much as I did. The food was excellent. We spent about $20 and ate our weight. It took them no time to get my order to me. The staff can help you identify vegan options on their buffet. So, so worth it. We're definitely going to be back.

They have TONS of vegan options. A friend and I ordered about $40 worth of food, about 3 appetizers, 4 meals and a dessert. This was amazing and authentic Indian food, reminds me of food my grandmother makes and Indian food you find in Brooklyn, New York. The place is strictly vegetarian, no meat or eggs. When I called they spent time on the phone with me, telling me what was vegan and their recommendations. I can't speak to the facility itself because I had the food delivered, and the man who delivered it was so sweet. This place was a nice find for my long stay in Houston TX.

We went for our first visit Saturday evening of Memorial Day weekend. When we arrived, it was empty but cooking sounds as well as good aromas came from the kitchen in back. Seeing an "order here" sign over the counter, we took menus to a booth, and as we pondered our choices, the place began to fill up, with both sit-down and take-away customers. We seemed to be the only non-Indian folks, probably a good sign.
Read moreOrdering was easy enough, and while doing so, I saw on a whiteboard next to me an item I had to try: "lemon masala soda." It was an unexpected treat, and I'm still thinking about the blend of spices and flavors in my lemonade. Intriguing! I liked it. But not as much as we enjoyed our malai kofta, vegetable biryani with yogurt and garnish, plus the added roti and a side of garlic naan. Mmm. Oh, and we couldn't resist getting some sweets to take home.
We're going to have to return many times to work our way through the entire menu. It's a small place, and not fancy, which suits me just fine. And as far as I could see, there was no styrofoam. (But I almost always bring my own reusable containers for leftovers.) I see on their website that you can order online, too. We might try that, but I enjoyed sitting among other happy diners.

The second time I went, I was the only person there at noon on a weekday.
Like I said, the food is good, but expect to be the only diner.
