Good food for a good price - Edit

We order 2starters and 2 main dishes plus the drinks for less then 20 bucks. The mango salad was amazing, really recommended!
I had a cashew milk that convinced me to start to make it for myself at home as soon I get back.
Also the staff 5* service , very attractive !

Pros: Fast service!

Cons: The serving of the dishes we order was completely , random but .... they come out fast enough to ignor, that fact :)

PLEASE READ BEFORE VISITING - Edit

I was so pleased to see that it was apparently an all vegan restaurant that I sat down and ordered hastily without checking here. I was then horrified to read some serious reports about them not serving completely vegan food! I had ordered the pizza which came with some rank yellow sauce that was supposed to resemble cheese. Obviously made from very poor quality ingredients. Also, it was expensive. [edit by staff - see tos]. Avoid this place like the plague.

Cons: Not vegan???, Disgusting, Expensive

Nice place - Edit

Soups and noodle dishes around 80K VND. We tried Pho and Vietnamese Snail Soup - both with mock meat and both pretty tasty! We also ordered spring rolls - it was really delicious (with shiitake). But the portion was pretty weird - just 4 small spring rolls and then a big pot of plain noodles and lots of greens on side.. We would prefer more of the delicious spring rolls...

Pros: * friendly staff, * clean

Tasty food, nice atmosphere but watch out for sneaky bits of dairy! - Edit

The restaurant is a nice place for dinnner, nicely decorated and looks clean with music playing. However it is a bit pricey for what the food is to be honest- about 80,000 for most noodle dishes which are usually 20-50 other places we have been. We enjoyed our dinner but the problem was the coffee at the end- really bad coffee which I am definite was not made from pure coffee beans but one of those coffees you can sometimes find in vietnam with added things such as chemical flavourings or burnt corn/soyabeans. As we know coffee is often roasted with butter/fish sauce/chicken fat in ~Vietnam we only trust pure roasted coffee and as this was clearly not that we also question whether it was definitely vegan. The other issue is for the milk coffee they use a packaged ‘non dairy creamer’ but we asked to see the package and it has caseinate from milk sources in it so not technically vegan and they weren’t aware of this. As a result we are concerned there may be other things which they do not realise aren’t vegan- as a previous review also mentions an allergic reaction to a milk product here. I don’t think any of this is purposeful but that they are not aware or properly checking the products they use. Shame to say as based purely on the meals i would have given 4 or 5 stars.

vegan retreat - Edit

Despite writing a very negative review of the other Minh Chay in Ha Noi, I have enjoyed eating here. The food is good and the service friendly. Not haut cuisine but serviceable. Nice to find a quiet friendly oasis in frenetic HaNoi.

Pros: reasonable food

Nice place little portions - Edit

Really nice decor and the people who worked there are wonderful.
The food my family and I ordered was all so bland and lacking in size. But from what other people are saying the food is very good. So we must of all ordered the wrong things haha.
The sausages were very good I must say though.

Pros: nice decor, great service

Cons: pricey for Vietnam, some food was very bland

Full Vegan, A loooot of dishes, but quite expensive - Edit

I bought a carrot juice which was really good! But it costs 79000 Dong.. that's quite a lot. There is the Jalus restaurant close to it. It's fully vegan too, does not have a that big variety of dishes, but the carrot juice and other dishes are a little cheaper here. 45000 Dong for the Carrot Juice. And Jalus also offers Green juices and good smoothies!

Some days good but some days... - Edit

We had two very different meals on two visits. On the first go we thought the food was good and moderately priced.
On the second visit the "fried vegetables" were similar to a pakoras but the root vegetables inside were almost raw. Even worse was the "pizza" which was disgusting. The chef's "homemade vegan cheese" was inedible sludge. I gave up on the third slice.
Note: the "beer" on the drinks menu is zero alcohol.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Some inedible dishes

Good food, slow at peak times, some dishes unavailable - Edit

We tried the fettuccine and the couscous salad. I very much enjoyed the fettuccine, they had an interesting sauce that definitely wasn't Italian and had lots of veggies mixed in. The couscous was more of a mixed bag, it was overly sweet for our taste. We had two orange juices which were good but expensive (69.000). The two things that really stuck out for us was the nice atmosphere of the restaurant and the excellent service, which was attentive and subtle.

Update: We went again to try some Vietnamese dishes, most of all Pho. But they said they had run out of rice noodles (?) and Pho wasn't available. I went for lemongrass "beef" vermicelli instead, which tasted absolutely amazing with great texture.
However, this time, service was way too slow. We waited for the better part of an hour and were half-starved when our food finally arrived. We saw other diners complain about the long wait.

Try the House Salad! - Edit

We've eaten at Minh Chay around 8 times and would probably consider it to be the best (or at least second best!) vegan restaurant in Hanoi! The Minh Chay salad is super tasty and fresh! Some dishes on the menu are a little bland though and the baby baked potatoes are delicious but super pricy at 159000VND which is A LOT for a small side dish of spuds!

Pros: Fresh salad (often a rarity in VN) and amazing fru, Sweet and helpful staff, My partner really enjoyed the burger

Cons: Expensive drinks, Some dishes are a little bland, Pizza bases aren't made with real pizza dough

Great vegan food in Hanoi - Edit

Lovely little gem not far from the old quarter. Staff were very attentive and keen to upsell, to the point where they asked if I wanted dessert when they took my mains order. The snail noodle soup was filling and delicious, with dried mushrooms giving the chewy snail texture. Prices are a bit above average. Would be happy to come back.

Pros: Great food, Big menu, Good service

Cons: Higher prices

Like the food a lot - Edit

The food here is really nice. I usually get the vegan burger, vegan snail noodle soup, the vegan BBQ vegetables, and milk tea made with almond milk. The restaurant has a nice vibe.

Perhaps the only drawback of this place is that once we saw a staff member coming out of the bathroom without washing his hands...but this is Vietnam so I'm not that surprised to be honest.

Pros: food is nice, staff is friendly, nice ambiance

Cons: parking isn't available in front of the restaurant

Minh Chay Hang Gai. - Edit

Newly opened last month on Hang Gai one of the main streets in the old quarter. That great word VEGAN outside the restaurant is prominently displayed. The food is both western and Vietnamese. Great choices. I had my second vegan burger in Vietnam. Was well presented came with fries and salad. Had passionfruit juice. Bill came to 135.000d around $7. The menu is step up from the Loving Huts prices, but worth the visit. Revisited has a new picture menu. had pizza, mushroom and lemon grass with nice mixed sprout salad. Service, food was excellent.

Good food but small portions and pretty expensive. I think there are better options in Hanoi especially if you are on a low budget.

hardworking and nice staff - Edit

the staff who works here are all really hardworking and nice!
I had a mushroom sandwich however, it was disappointing. It is something that you can put together yourself, at home. was not worth the price comparing with the other amazing cheaper placed that I have eaten at.

Great menu poor execution - Edit

This place really frustrated me. It has all the ingredients to be be great but the food just doesn't live up.
Lots of items on the menu were unavailable when we ate here which we found a little frustrating.
Please don't order the vegan pizza. The tiny shreds of bland vegan cheese went on the topping last (classic rookie move) so you can't bite the pizza without dragging the entire topping off in one go. The base has the consistency of a crunchy biscuit and it's a sweet too.
The sandwiches are better but some of my bread slices were from a stale batch and they were crunchy and dry instead of soft and moist like the others.
We ate the pumpkin dessert which was very nice though.

Pros: varied menu, pumpkin dessert, nice staff

Cons: poor understanding of western palate , the things you want aren't available

Nice food, friendly staff - Edit

We ate here a couple nights in a row. The food is good but I wouldn't call it exceptional. They serve both Vietnamese and Western food. I had the vegan snail soup and I really liked it (although I was a little freaked out by the "snails" ;) ) The staff speaks English and they are very friendly.

Pros: Friendly staff, Tasty food

Cons: Too much mock meat
