Cheap and salty

A few months ago, one of my classmates raved about the crispy vegan bawan (stuffed glutinous rice) at this place. I finally went over there to check it out after going to Costco.

The food is very inexpensive; in fact, you can choose any three items from the bulk of their menu and pay only NT$100! I decided to try the crispy bawan, zongzi, and grass jelly, which comes with a plant-based creamer. The bawan was nice and crispy as advertised, but I wasn’t sure what to make of the pink sauce on top. (I was told by the staff that it’s a sweet sauce, but it was hard for me to place the flavor.) The zongzi was much too dry, and I had to request that they put soy sauce paste on it to make it easier to swallow. It was also quite plain. My favorite thing was the grass jelly. I’m sure the plant-based creamer is half artificial, but whatevs.

The sad part was that several hours later, my mouth felt like it had been attacked by an excessive amount of salt. I’m hoping that it was because I just had too much soy sauce paste since I asked them to add it to the zongzi. I’ll try the sesame paste noodles next time instead.

Pros: all vegan, very affordable, fast service

Cons: too salty, dry and bland zongzi
