BEST CHEAP EATS

been here 3 times now and will continue to come every day until i leave chiang mai. the food is the best food i’ve had in this country since i arrived. not only is it super cheap, but it tastes amazing. a good selection of options and tons of faux meats which i love. could not recommend more.

Pros: SO flavourful, cheap

a sad looking place

I actually did not eat here - walked into the place, saw some sad looking veggies in the warming trays, and found that the greeter spoke no English at all. Although some of the simple looking storefronts here have excellent food, I found the lack of ambience to be offputting.

Pros: good location next to Sunday market

Cons: much better places in town

Hairs in meals / "double portion" scam

Went there for many years. Meanwhile the third owner. Not only that I found hairs in the meals, they started to charged 30 bath for one item stating it's "double portion". This is a common scam. For me it's meanwhile a no go ! There are others where you get treated fair !

Delicious veg Khao Soi

A lovely eatery with a very authentic feel. I loved the veg Khao Soi - a local special that is not easy to find on a meat-free rendition. The food tasted great and was very fresh. They also have some condiments on sale. Highly recommended for temple hoppers!!

Pros: Local cuisine, Fresh, Very cheap - lunch for two costed us 130 THB

Great variety

They serve a buffet like food variety. You can just tell them or point out what you want to eat and they put it on your dish. The taste is amazing and the restaurant cozy.

Pros: Good value for money , Very good taste, Authentic food

Great buffet with delicious food

They offer a buffet if many different options. Everything is 100% vegan. There is soup, curry, fake meat, vegetables and many more.
The food tasted absolutely delicious and was really cheap, too. I would highly recommend going there.
They also speak a little English, which is nice.

Pros: Delicious food, 100% vegan, Good value for money

Cold!

No idea what I ordered, to be honest if I hadn’t found it on here to be vegan I’d be doubting it was. The mushrooms tasted a bit too much like meat for me.
Also, everything was cold.
All the green stuff I ordered was nice
Cost 40bht

Pros: Quick, Cheap, Lots of green stuff!

Cons: Cold, Cold, Cold

Nice restaurant

We enjoyed this restaurant. We went first thing at 7am as it opened. I have no idea what we had as it's sort of a point at what you'd like in the buffet kind of thing. But everything was nice, although it was cold. But overall the food was good and it was cheap.

Pros: Good food, Good price, All vegan

Cons: Cold, No labels on food

Delicious!

This buffet is so good. Walked in with very little time, was served up two bowls of khao soi and spring rolls, immediately, for 90 baht total. The khao soi was so good too! Rich, spicy, flavorful, with a delectable mock chicken. I was so satisfied and pleased. I’ve found some of the buffets to be a little bland and disappointing, so this was a real treat.

Pros: Absolutely delicious , Very affordable, Location

Wonderful veggie/vegan spot

It moves quick. Don't be nervous, dive in. Try the mushrooms, they are out of this world. Super cheap, 60 B. A plate.

Great vegan spot

The food is really good. They have a menu on a board you can choose from in addition to other food they have pre-preped for you to see and choose from. The Kao Soi is delicious and so flavorful. It's very cheap to with clean seating. There is lots of room to sit. Try to not go when they are about to close because I can imagine they run out of some thing. Highly recommend.

Great cheap food

Not much English spoken, but the format appears to be “here’s your rice, pick two things you want with it”. Super cheap, V tasty and all vegan!

cheap food on the quick

We come here nearly every day, this place is really the best spot for a quick and easy meal that doesn't cost much. The dishes in the buffet change daily so you can always try something new. To my knowledge, everything they serve is vegan.

Pros: quick and easy, authentic Thai food, free drinking water

Cons: this place is deservedly popular so you might have

Nice Jey Place

Ming Kwan is a cut above some of the other typical Thai jey places around for a few reasons. Firstly they don't just sell the food from dishes at the front, they also have khao soy which is kept warm in a big pot. They also have a big pot of guay jiaw (Thai noodles) kept warm as well. In addition, they have a little somtam stall at the front. So if you don't want the buffet dishes which can often get cold then you have lots of other choices. They also have other prepacked dishes such as little salads and desserts. Also has an array of snacks such as fake meat on sticks and fried spring rolls, etc.

Pros: Good variety of dishes, Cheap

Cons: Just Thai food

Cheap tasty lunch

Standard jay Thai restaurant with the food cooked and set out to choose from, great for a quick, cheap and interesting lunch
For two people we each had a plate with rice and two different dishes (stir fried veg, lots of tofu and mock meat etc), and two spring rolls for 80baht. Great rolls!! Also a nice variety of dishes, and chilli, vinegar and soy sauce on the table if you want a bit more zing!!!
Free drinking water from a water dispenser (so I guess not tap water - we drank it without any problems anyway!)
Also sells various bits and pieces (dry goods, biscuits, mock meat)

Pros: Lots of choice, Really cheap

便宜

在菜里吃出一根橡皮筋。因嚼不动,跟这盘菜的口感也不一样,吐出来一看,发现是根橡皮筋。幸亏没有咽下去。

Tasty and pleasantly unusual

There is a limited and slightly tatty menu on the wall, but we picked stuff from the cabinet. Have no idea what some of the things were, apart from a deep fried stuffed pepper, but it was pleasantly unusual and awesome

Pros: Unusual choices, Well priced

Average but delicious

I’ve eaten here a couple of time. Not a huge selection of dishes to choose from, most fairly average - except for the laab. It’s northern Thai style, spicy and really very special. Definitely recommend that one if you dine here.
