Standard Thai lunch buffet style. Has several pre-cooked buffet dishes as well as khao soi and noodle soup kept warm in big pots. Also has snacks and desserts. Papaya salad is made to order. Sometimes packaged salad for purchase. Jul 2019 reported using honey in kombucha. Reported closed November 2025.

Cold food - Edit
Went here one evening. This is a restaurant that sells food all day from a hot plate counter.
Read moreI had one nice Khao soy but the rest of the food ws stone cold. They obviously make no effort to keep the food warm after cooking it.
Maybe it woud be better in the morning.

MING KWAN IS STILL OPEN : Near original location - Edit
UPDATE: It appears that Ming Kwan has been moving around Chiang Mai. I haven't been for a long time and wanted to check out the new location. Sadly, the new location near Somphet market does not exist.
Read moreI went there today near the original location near Wat Phra Singh. It is indeed open in a new location 2 shopfronts down from the original location. That is to say approx. 20 metres closer to the temple.
To avoid confusion other temporary locations should be deleted. Remembering that Ming Kwan has another long-standing location on Suthep Road.
Same old pre-prepared food at great value prices. There is a good variety of food and it tastes good.

Typical pre-cooked Thai Veg food. The taste is ok, The value is very good.
It is very popular a peak hours. Sometimes hard to find a seat.
Free water and added spices on most tables.
This is not my style of place, but worth while when I am in a hurry or want a cheap meal

Pros: Very Cheap, Good Central location, Several choices of food available
Cons: Pre-cooked food isn't always warm or hot, Faux meats used in some dishes.

Not buffet style - Edit
This place is definitely not buffet style. They have option of rice with 2/3/4 curry and priced accordingly.

Overall we ate stomach full food in a clean and reliably meat free place.

Definitely one of the best budget eats - Edit
Aww my title says it all. This is definitely one of the best options for budget travel & eats! I think I went there so many times during my stay in Chiang Mai. The food is fresh right at 7AM! Oh my this country everyone gets up super early, 7am breakfast & lunch meals are BOTH ready to serve! 🥹 Lots of healthy choices, variety with very affordable prices! So much work for some little money! Will return again & again with my gratitude 🙏 namaste! 🌿

Spring rolls were a hit - Edit
I love mock meat so I went for the rice and a little bit of everything from the buffet options. Forgot to take a photo but it was delicious. The spring rolls were especially tasty so we got some more to take away.

Buffet, noodles and vegan snacks - Edit
Classic jay food—tasty, cheap, and served cold any time after late morning. Buffet food all seems to be vegan in-store, but I have noticed the option of egg when you order online. You can also order khao soi and other noodle soups separately. They sell packaged sandwiches for 25 baht as well as a few other random bits, like little vegan ring doughnuts (5 baht a pop if I remember correctly). During the night market they usually have a stall out front selling mushroom balls.

Great food, authentic vibe, very cheap - Edit
Standard buffet-style Thai lunch with many options of whatever you want basically for very low prices. Everything we had was good, though most of the mains were pretty lukewarm (at just before noon, when I’d think lunch would be in full swing), hence only 4 stars. Would’ve almost definitely been 5 if everything were served hot. I will note that the khao soi I had here (ask for it separately) was one of the best individual dishes I had in all of Thailand, and my favorite version of it that I had on this trip, and it was in fact hot. Would return just for that honestly

Hidden Gem for Affordable & Delicious Vegan Thai Cuisine! - Edit
While searching for another vegetarian café, I stumbled upon Ming Kwan while strolling through the streets of Chiang Mai, conveniently located near my stay in the week of 17th February.

Best little spot in town - Edit
I came here many times during my stay in Chiang Mai. Can be a little confusing at first with a language barrier, but if you just walk up to the counter and greet them nicely they are happy to help. I usually just asked for “rice plate”. They get you some rice and then you can pick what else from the buffet that you would like! Everything was delicious - be adventurous!

Visited Ming Kwan vegetarian restaurant today, 10Jan2025 for breakfast. Many varieties of vegetarian dishes are available for selection to go with plain rice. Individual rice/noodle sets are available too. See pictures.
Read moreWe ordered the veg noodle soup (THB50/SG$2.0 each bowl), fried wan tan/dumplings (20THB for 10 pcs/SGD$0.80) & fried spring roll (10THB/S$0.40) which are delicious. Refillable clean drinking water and ice are available free-of-charge here.
The veg food here is allium free - very good. The staff is friendly. We’ll come back for other dishes. Highly recommended #Veganuary
Came back today; 11Jan2025 for their Veg Kao Soi. It’s delicious and cheap (THB50/SG$2) 😋👍🏻

Nice Cheap Food - Edit
Just called in here for my last meal before leaving Chiang Mai, and the food was fantastic. Not sure what it was called what I had, as it’s ordered from a buffet style, but it was so tasty (so spicy too). Staff didn’t speak English, but we’re still so warm and friendly.

Best Khao Soi Ever - Edit
The buffet was okay but the winner was definitely the Khao Soi. I’ve had a lot of Khao Soi but this one was the best I’ve ever had while simultaneously being the cheapest! Can’t go wrong, get your vegan/vego butts down there and grab a bowl of Khao Soi for 50 Baht!!

Look what they have - Edit
Small, nice shop. In the evening there wasn't much choice (you point to the food you want. Rice is served with it). Everything together cost 50 baht. The food tasted OK. Not everything was tasty, but we had a small selection. You definitely get full for little money.

Well, the food I had was edible. But not really tasty. The selection was also very small. The service was not good either, as they didn't explain how the concept worked and what exactly the food was... I should have perhaps made that clearer.

Traditions Jay restaurants - Edit
Very well located at the heart of Chiangmai’s old city. A variety of delicious premade options served over rice, Thai noodle soup and Khaosoi on request and a few other made to order options posted with pictures on the wall. The food is very tasty and clean, and probably the most inexpensive vegan food you can find anywhere in the area. Highly recommend. This is a Jay restaurant, no animal sourced ingredient used.

Excellent Thai food cheap! - Edit
The place is very simple and you just walk up to the buffet counter where a woman will fill your plate with your choices. I didn’t know the names of anything but the items included mushrooms, faux meats, noodles and lots of veggies. I got a large plate full of delicious Thai food (3 items) with rice and free water for 50 baht! The woman serving my dish said all of the food on the buffet is vegan. The food was very tasty but the temperature was just warm, not hot.
Read moreI came back again a few days later and had 2 items with rice for 40 baht. The price includes a side of spring rolls and you can add cilantro, hot pepper paste, fermented veggies as you wish. I think this is the best value for vegan food I have found so far in Thailand. It’s all simply delicious!
July 2024 - Back in Chiang Mai and I keep going back to Ming Kwan. The food is exceptionally good and such a great value!
