Greasy Spoon with Some Vegan Options! - Edit
Mike's Bites has made a name for itself in Bangor by feeding hungover and cash-strapped students for decades. Most notably, it is known for the eating challenge The Greedy Bastard. I dislike eating challenges like these as they cause an unnecessary waste of food and create additional demand for animal products. If you can overlook this and how meat heavy the menu is, Mike's Bites may be exactly what you are looking for as a vegan dining in Bangor.
Read moreThey offer two vegan breakfasts. A vegan cooked breakfast and a vegan breakfast bap. They have an additional couple of vegetarian breakfasts and a 'Veggie' section on their lunch menus, too. They also have Oat and Soya Milks available for hot drinks, and they also offer their milkshakes to be made dairy free.
I had the Vegan Breakfast Bap and an Oat Biscoff Milkshake. The milkshake was really nice and even came with vegan whipped cream! The breakfast bap was pretty average, with the hummus they used being the worst I have ever had. It looked so unlike hummus that I had to ask if it was indeed hummus and that a mistake wasn't made where butter may have been accidentally put on the bap. The sausages, mushrooms, and hashbrowns were well cooked, and the sauces on the tables were also vegan. I must also mention how lovely the staff were. They were incredibly helpful when I was enquiring about the food, and the chef seemed to take the issue of allergens very seriously.
Pros: Plant Milks Available , Great for Vegetarians, Lovely Staff, Dairy Free Milkshakes
Cons: Could Do With More Vegan Options

Disappointing change - Edit
I’ve spent many hungover days at Mike’s Bites over the years I studied in Bangor and it used to be a firm favourite amongst friends. I visited for the first time in three/four years recently and unfortunately NOTHING is gluten-free (except a very non-vegan full-English that is just meat and eggs). This is upsetting because I used to be able to eat here with no issue in the past, so I’m not sure what’s changed. I’m assuming they no longer keep one fryer for GF-only stuff and just chuck everything into one.
Read moreTwo stars for the fact they offer a vegan breakfast that my friend enjoyed (whilst I sat there with nothing 😂).
I do understand that maintaining an allergen-free/safe kitchen environment can be really difficult, but it is a worrying sign for their overall food hygiene if they can’t offer anything gluten-free. There’s just no need for chips and hash browns to be glutenous!
Pros: Vegan breakfast available
Cons: No suitable GF options
