Great quality vegetarian and vegan sushi !
Read moreItems with dairy and egg clearly marked.
Great menu items. We tried the veggie tempura, pumpkin croquettes, deep fried mushrooms, gyoza and a variety of sushi. Delicious!
Fantastic customer service, easy ordering via QR code (and cute little delivery train that sends food to your table).

Delicious and fresh - Edit
My sushi train experience here was unbelievably good. Everything on the train was vegan which is awesome to see - I didn’t have to worry about my choices. Everything was super delicious and there was a huge variety. The price was very reasonable. I can’t wait to come back again to try the hot food menu!

Yum sushi train and cute location - Edit
Loads of options, all really tasty. Lots of different sushi rolls, tofu, edamame beans, tea, rice and more. Yum mochi. FYI not all options are vegan, but we were told that all options on the sushi train are. The ones that are not (there are a few dishes with egg and dairy) are ordered separately. I would clarify though in case anything changes. I'll definitely be going back because it's a fun experience and very yummy!

Nice food and reasonably priced - Edit
I’ve never experienced a sushi train before and I’d wanted to try it. I’d asked others about the vegan options and been assured there were plenty.
Read moreMy friend and I booked the sushi train and were seated at a table. The plates are priced by their colour.
I grabbed a few things off the train (I noticed there was one non vegan dish). Everything I had was delicious and something I had not really tried before. I also ordered a miso soup and a a plate of crispy mushrooms from the menu which is delivered to you on a truck type thing. My friend and I shared the calamari too.
The staff were nice and the restaurant is clean and bright.
The restaurant is easy to get to on public transport from the inner north (bus or tram).
I was disappointed by the lack of vegan desserts though.
Pros: Variety of options
Cons: Very few vegan desserts

Love this place. Many creative sushi to choose from the belt. Mostly vegan and those with dairy/egg are clearly labelled. They also have a fine-dining experience on the second floor. No weekend surcharge too 👍

Good but not great - Edit
It’s truly fantastic to have an all veg sushi train in Melbourne and I’ve enjoyed eating here. However, many of the options are a little bland, or straight up odd tasting. Also they tend to be a bit dry off the train. I hope the quality improves over time, because the concept is great.

Creative Vegan Fine Dining That Truly Delivers - Edit
Midori by Taos is a standout in Melbourne’s plant-based dining scene.
Read moreI recently revisited for their upstairs kaiseki fine dining experience and was blown away. While the sushi train downstairs is already a vegan gem (98% vegan options!), the six-course kaiseki menu upstairs takes things to another level – beautifully presented, artful dishes that truly celebrate vegetables. The savoury rice pudding with mushroom medley was a major highlight, and the miso eggplant and vegan "eel" mains were incredibly flavourful. The vegan panna cotta with fairy floss was the perfect finish. Staff were friendly, and the pace of the meal made it feel relaxing and special.
At $78 per person, it’s a splurge, but absolutely worth it for a memorable, mostly vegan experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for creative and satisfying vegan fine dining in Melbourne!

Joy - Edit
I can’t even begin to describe what it feels like to be able to once again go to a sushi train and be able to just pluck everything off the belt. Something I thoroughly enjoyed doing over 10 years ago and thought I’d never be able to enjoy again. Until Midori! Bringing back that sushi train joy to vegans everywhere. This place is not strictly vegan, but it is mostly vegan options with vegetarian options available, and they are very, very few. While disappointing that not every thing on the menu is vegan, they have eliminated almost everything apart from tamago. All the sushi off the belt is delicious, fairly priced by sushi train standards and extremely innovative. Some really amazing creations you would never even see in a regular sushi restaurant. Staff are so lovely and the vibe is so cute in there, if this was in my neighbourhood I’d be eating here every day.

Howdy Tigster,
Read moreif you want to get into specifics - sure, it’s not vegan. And if you’re only into supporting vegan businesses by the definition of absolutely no animal products used in any of the items served - definitely don’t go here. Vegan with vegetarian options was a fun little quip, that’s all. I’ll go ahead and remove it from my review.

Mostly Vegan Sushi Train Dreams - Edit
The place is fitted out nicely. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The dishes were all pretty nice. We ordered the oyster mushrooms (bit oily) and yam rolls (these were good) off the hot menu. I'd be keen to go again.

Whimsical little spot - Edit
Sushi was good, lots of different types, including desserts. We spent $80 for both of us for lunch. Some sushi were hit and miss, but our fave was the banana peanut butter. And anything with egg or tofu 👌🏻 never been to an all veggie sushi place, and loved the takeaway train.

Finally had the chance to try Midori, and as expected it was fantastic.
Read moreStrangely the only thing I didn’t like was the vegan salmon and vegan tuna (it didn’t really taste like fish) HOWEVER, everything else I ate was amazing. So keep that in mind if you’re missing fish and try this place. Will be back to try some of the hot food selection as we only tried the plates on the train and some bao buns.

AMAZING - Edit
I absolutely loved this place!! Staff were super friendly and the sushi was amazinggggg. The flavours and imitations were so creative. There was roasted capsicum instead of salmon on top of one of the rolls and it was so good! I brought my Omni friend here and she even loved it. The only dish I didn’t like was the green tea soba, wouldn’t order again. Almost everything was vegan, there was only one thing going around the train that had egg/dairy and it was clearly labelled.

Very disappointing Service - Edit
Decided to try this place out and bring some friends as I've seen a lot of great reviews. The food we ate was okay. However, the service really ruined the dining experience. When seated we were not explained how the ordering works, the price of the different plates of sushi, how we can distinguish between what is and isn't vegan, or when the kitchen closes (keep in mind for later). We had to get a different person over to explain to us how things worked, which was fine. However, we were still not told what time the kitchen was going to close. At 8:18, we ordered hot food but were subsequently told 5 minutes later that the kitchen closed at 8:15, so they weren't taking any more orders. We were then referred to a small sign going around the sushi train that we were supposed to read to know about the kitchen closing time. Why not inform patrons when you sit them down, or let them know 20 minutes before close? The sign can easily be moved around or missed, which is what happened in our case. Following this, food was removed from the sushi train at 8:30 when closing time is at 9, which again we were not informed about. Considering we weren't able to have any of the hot food, we thought that asking for the sushi would be okay, but when I asked a staff member it was almost as if it was a nuisance. All of this would've been fine if it had been communicated. We would've bought a lot of hot food if we were verbally informed of the kitchen closing, and I was really looking forward to trying out a variety of their dishes. I think I would've enjoyed the food and rated it much higher if I was able to order. It's so important to support restaurants that pride themselves on vegan food, but service like this really lets a place down. Hopefully in future I can update this review to be a positive experience.

Vegan sushi train win - Edit
Such a fun experience, being able to eat pretty much all of the things on the train. Except for the (well labelled) dishes with eggs and dairy.

Fresh and fun sushi experience - Edit
I had never been to a sushi train restaurant before, and it was so enjoyable! We could order certain things (eg.hot food) using the QR code, and it would come delivered by a little car, on a track above the sushi train track, which was so much fun. We ordered the fried mushroom which was delicious, they had fried enoki, and oyster mushroom. The enoki was my favourite with a fleshy base, and crispy thin tips. We also got tempura okra, which I was hesitant about because okra tends to be slimy in texture, but it was very good, dry, and perfectly lightly battered.
Read moreThe sushi was fresh and mostly delicious. My favourite was the one with avocado, ham and tofu skin. When we ordered another of it (after waiting awhile and it not reappearing on the sushi train), it came with the pork floss instead of the tofu skin, which was too sweet. The sushi with purple yam was very good too.
I found the burdock salad too sweet for my liking, and the wakame sushi had too much nori, which overpowered the wakame flavour completely.
I really wish the menu had a description of the sushi contents, overall you can figure out what something is, but sometimes (esp with little bits of fake meat) you can't tell what is in what (for eg. the sushi with the puffed white quinoa looking things on the outside, I'm not sure what was inside), also for ease of re-ordering.
I also really wish they had proper chopsticks, instead of disposable ones. Even though they weren't the flimsy disposable ones, it is soooo wasteful (edited to add: they do non-disposable chopsticks now!)
I am looking forward to the a la carte dining, soon to be opened upstairs.
