Vegan Brunch on Cuba St. - Edit
Opened in 1988 this is one of Wellington’s longest standing cafes and a serious contender for being one of the coolest local hangouts I have ever been to in my life. The vegan choice is quite phenomenal. We had a vegan hash stack (mushrooms on toast, grilled tomato, spinach, hash browns and mayo) and the vegan midnight breakfast (chickpea and vegetable patty with avocado, spinach, salad, red pesto and mayo). The coffee is bold and vibrant which in my opinion goes a long way in saying how good a place really is. There’s even a Mandalorian pinball machine in the corner, ‘This is the Way’

Sentimental - Edit
Even though Midnight isn’t a vegan cafe, it will always hold a place in my heart, with a lot of fond memories stretching back nearly 30 years. On the occasions when I’ve returned it has been a bit uneven as far as vegan options go, but on my most recent visit it seemed to have a few decent offerings. I found myself looking for a place for dinner on Cuba Street with a group of friends, and the vegan pizza joint and vegan Malaysian restaurant were both closing. We’d just been reminiscing about Midnight so decided to eat there. I ordered and shared the vegan burger and the vegan nachos, which my friend had told me were big enough for two. The burger was adequate but not particularly exciting. My jaw dropped when the nachos arrived: I’d ordered a large, when it was actually the small my friend had meant was big enough for two, and it was massive. This is a good thing if you have enough people to eat it, but unfortunately we didn’t. It’s also worth nothing the beans were a bit dry, without enough sauces to address this. An extra star for the nostalgia, but this visit was a bit disappointing.

Late Night Heaven - Edit
Midnight Espresso was one of my favourite Wellington finds... it's a very casual setting but the music was pumping, the art beautiful, staff attentive, coffee surprisingly good for 11pm and the food was truly delicious. If you like an alternative vibe, check it out

Loved the different vegan options - Edit
Filled peppers, banana cake and more. Very flavourful, and the cake was nice an moist. Good to see these vegan options offered. It's a smaller cafe at Cube St, so it can be busy and harder to find a place to sit down. Friendly stuff too.

Good cafe, great vegan tofu burger - Edit
Has good vegan selection including vegan thick shakes. Recommend the gangsta tofu burger and tofu buns, as well as the vegan nachos. Variable selection of vegan cakes, sometimes most of their cakes are vegan, other times only one or two options

Rad Cafe, Few Vegan Options - Edit
Dope hip little cafe. Rad spot. Pretty good food, but few options on the menu... Preferred the dedicated vegan/veg spots in town, but it’s a cool spot if you are looking for a hip cafe vibe.

Great cake - Edit
These days you’re lucky if there’s more than one vegan cake on the counter, get the chocolate if it’s there. The hot food is meh, and it’s pretty popular so can be hard to find a seat, and it’s super loud

Cool cafe - Edit
Cool and artsy cafe on Cuba St with good music and atmosphere. There are a lot of vegan options on their counter and almost everything on their menu can be made vegan. Portions are good for the price you pay and everything I had there was always tasty. Staff isn't overly friendly but I reckon they're just too busy. Closes very late!

Tons of vegan options - open late - Edit
Open until 3 am on Friday and Saturday, which was a lifesaver. Had an awesome meal - the spinach, pumpkin, tofu curry was to die for. Fun vibe - great desserts, coffee all night, no alcohol, but really, really good food. Might have to go back for the vegan nachos ... it looked insane.

They have like 3-4 vegan meals, I tried the vegan hash stack. It was big enough to split and very good. The only con was that they had vegan nachos on the menu but they did not have any :(

As a student across the road, Midnight Espresso has been a blessing for healthy meals or sweet treats at any hour of the night. The cake is always vegan and there is always other vegan baking in the cabinet too.

Delicious, filling breakfast! - Edit
Another hostel guest recommended this place to me so I went to grab a quick breakfast, expecting to just get one of their scones. Instead, I ordered the avocado/tomato/basil toast with a side of hash browns, as well as the scone and a soy latte. The latte was perfect (and I'm a little picky as I used to be a barista) and the meal was sooo good and kept me full all morning. A bit pricey but I was really happy with my experience.

Clearly marked menu of what is vegan (includes nachos, French toast, breakfasts, toasts etc) and what can be made vegan. Always an abundance of cabinet foods which are labelled vegan such as baking, sandwiches etc. sometimes they have vegan donuts which are known to sell out fast! Always a top option when choosing a vegan cafe
