CLOSED: Miao Xiang Xi

It's nice to have an all-vegetarian (though not vegan) place in this area! Prices are low -- I had a soup for 6000៛ and the 'chicken legs' for 5000៛. The soup was big -- though I admit I was not super into it, it wasn't bad; the legs were indeed a bit oily and without a great deal of taste, but also not bad. As noted many times, the place is into faux meats (of several varieties), but it's not like you can't avoid it.

I admit that I didn't like hanging out in there too much -- it wasn't the cleanest and the ambience in general left a little to be desired.

When I was there, the staff spoke zero English (and sadly, I am too ignorant to speak Khmer or any kind of Chinese), so you probably will be limited to just pointing to menu items (as opposed to asking questions).

I wasn't blown away by taste sensations, so won't give it a 5, but it's all-veg and a great value, so worth keeping in mind!

Nice little place - popular with locals for hotpot it looked like. We had a nice Khmer dish with bean sprouts and a really filling and delicious soup. Enough for sharing for sure. They gave us some nice tea as well :)

This restaurant is an excellent stop - and break - after visiting the genocide museum (S-21) in Phnom Pehn. Perfect to unwind a bit after the museum, and good, calm atmosphere.

We took the advice of previous reviewers and ordered 2 soups - they were right. Chinese soup (without dumplings), and the spice thom soup. Both were good, flavourful, and cheap. We also took a stab at the chicken leg - we'd never had it before. Interesting flavours with the lemongrass - although oily, we both enjoyed.

Overall meal was cheap - 11,500R (under $3USD) for two - with good portion sizes. We were disappointed that they didn't have any Bao (steamed buns), but that's how it goes sometimes. We would definitely go back.

As other reviewers have said, they're pretty heavy with the mock meat. I would recommend ordering a noodle soup, as these seem to be the specialty and the best value for your money (under $1 for a full meal).

I ate my meal here with a man who was considering going vegetarian to lose weight but then proceeded to order only fried mock meats. I say this as a way of showing that it's quite easy to eat unhealthily at this place.

went there for dinner in february 2009. very good local experience, nice and efficient staff, tasty food, inexpensive. would go again on a next trip in PP.

This is a great spot to grab a quick lunch, and must be close to the best value you could hope for in Phnom Penh. Prices are pretty much rock bottom, being only marginally higher than basic market stall prices. Nearly all dishes range from 3 - 4000r (US$0.75 - US$1.00), with a couple of 'special' dishes at the 5 - 6000r mark.

The full picture menu comprises about 30 dishes (Chinese and Cambodian I think), some with faux meat, some with vegetables and others with 'meaty' mushroom stalks. The dishes are fairly simple, but well prepared, reasonably presented and tasty.

I recommend the Spicy Sour soup, Plear (a delicious spicy Asian salad), and the special Chinese noodle soups. The chicken drumsticks and chicken wings are also good for those partial to faux meat. The only consistent (but minor) disappointment for me has been the dumplings, which seem pretty ordinary whether steamed, deep-fried or in noodle soups.

Open: 6:30AM to 9PM daily. Location: On Monivong Blvd (# 699) on the west side of the street between Street 360 and Mao Tse Tong road (easily found on a basic tourist street map). The staff speak basic English. The menu includes pictures of the food. Note that bubble tea drinks are made with powdered cow's milk, and some dishes have egg, but mostly vegan food. I had dumplings for entree (ok), fried mixed mushrooms on rice (very nice). It cost a couple of US dollars from memory.

A small, humble and truly local place with not a westerner in sight :o) Great choice of mock meats - mock fish, mock drumsticks, mock spare ribs to name a few. Very cheap.
