Confusion over what is vegan

I contacted the restaurant prior to going asking if there were vegan options, they said yes. When I arrived and asked the waitress which options were vegan she said only the shiitake bowl, shiitake onigiri, miso soup and salad. She said the bao contains milk and dumplings contains egg. When I contacted the owner after attending the restaurant they informed me the shiitake bao and dumplings are vegan and confirmed neither contained milk or egg 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not sure what to believe. I ended up getting the miso soup and nigiri, miso was typical and the nigiri was a strange flavour that I didn’t particularly like and wouldn’t have otherwise ordered if I had a clearer understanding of what was and wasn’t vegan. Also o rather expensive
