Best vegan in Kyoto? Maybe... - Edit
After seeing the amazing reviews of Mercy, my partner and I had to eat here. We are holidaying from Australia and have been eating at every well known vegan restaurant. All I can say is wow, the food here definitely lived up to its high reputation! I tried the gimbap (korean 'sushi'), sweet and sour cauliflower and the kuramafu. While all dishes were incredible, the cauliflower was next level tasty. The gimbap was also the best rice dish/sushi I've eaten in Japan (so many different flavours and ingredients are generously packed into the gimbap).

Estaba todo tan bueno y de una calidad tan increíble que era maravilloso. La atención era formidable y Mako-san era la persona más bonita del mundo. Se nota cuando hay vocación por tu trabajo pues en cada plato se encontraba grandes cantidades de amor. Hacía mucho tiempo que no comía tan bien y me apena muchísimo porque nos vamos de Kyoto en dos días. Mañana vamos a comer en este sitio de nuevo porque lo merece. Mako-san, soy Ana y te echaré mucho de menos. Un abrazo enorme para ti y para el cocinero que es tan increíblemente habilidoso.

Amazing food, small portions - Edit
Small restaurant close to Kyoto station. We tried the fried cauliflower, black iced coffee, salt and butter roll, egg sandwich and soup of the day (pumpkin). Everything was delicious, but the portions are very small, especially for the price. Worth visiting for vegan egg sandwiches

Leider meiner Meinung nach sehr teuer. Es waren mindestens 3 Nachspeisen und eine Hauptspeise, genau so wie die Limo ausverkauft. Der Schokokuchen war göttlich, aber für 990 Yen zu viel. Wenn man sich für 550 Yen Apfelsaft holt hat man gefühlt nur zwei Schlucke davon.

Wow! If you are vegan and ever wanted to try the famed egg salad sandwich or strawberry sando at the konbinis in town, THIS is the place to go to!! Everything was fresh and scrumptious. My fiancé, who has tried the konbini sandwiches in the past, declared that this vegan egg salad sandwich is better than the ones in the store. We are bound to return!

Despite this, everything was tasty and was delivered pretty fast. Unfortunately some items weren't available and I had to order the remaining options separately, which caused an increase of the price. Ordered the fried kurumafu, the deep fried cauliflower, 2 melon buns, 2 salty rolls, 2 egg sandwiches and 2 walnut cinnamon rolls. Everything was really delicious!!!

Good options for all times of the day - Edit
I'd been to Mercy in Osaka before so went in with a good idea of what to expect. We ordered Shijou curries and enjoyed them. They were well spiced and had a good amount of vegetables in them. We also got a couple of pieces of fried kurumafau as an addition to the curry. These are good crispy bits of mock meat that are well seasoned and make a nice extra for the curry. We also got some melon pan for pudding, the inner bread is chocolate and the biscuit layer has chocolate chips in there. These were tasty but I personally found the inner bun a bit chewy. It seems like they baked goods are microwaved before being served and that leads to the less than perfect texture. We got iced milk teas to wash it all down and these were perfectly pleasant.
Read moreWe took some melon pan and cinnamon snails for a takeaway breakfast the next day. Everything kept well and tasted good. We went back for breakfast a couple of times as it was very close to our hotel. We got more baked goods and egg sandwiches - they were delicious. It's been a long time since I ate eggs but it felt like a convincing substitute to me. There could have been a little more seasoning to make everything a little better.
Overall, it's good tasty food but nothing has really blown me away, I also don't like that the baked goods get a microwaving to heat them up so I'm going for 4* rather than 5.
The name is a bit misleading too. It's at least a 10 minute walk from the train station. It's also in the basement floor of a hotel and I didn't see any obvious lift entrance for the restaurant so it doesn't look like it's wheelchair accessible.
