No vegan ramen - Edit
The map coordinates point to the main Menya Shirakawa, but NEITHER MENYA SHIRAKAWA NOR MENYA SHIRAKAWA BETTEI HAS VEGAN RAMEN as of today. Please remove this listing.

Beware, there are two ramen places on the same block! - Edit
The vegan noodles at this place were perfectly fine. I enjoyed them at lunch. However, be aware that there are two Ramen places on the same block and Google maps takes you directly to the wrong one. The first one coming from the train station does not have anything vegan. The second one is the one that has the vegan noodle dish.

Great ramen and very kind people - Edit
I had the vegan ramen and it was really good, the waitress was really kind and when I asked for the vegan ramen she explained really well. The ramen soup has soy milk and you only have to ask for it to make it vegan so they don’t put meat in it.

Really amazing vegan ramen - Edit
We lined up for about 10mins on Friday night, when we got in we were given one menu which didn’t show a vegan option. After asking they showed us the recommended vegan ramen. I ordered that with corn and bamboo. It was better than I was expecting as I like a few toppings 🥺 but it hit the spot! Would recommend going here for dinner!!!

Vegan still exist - Edit
There is one rameb which is recommended for vegans (there is small letters "recommend for vegans"). It comes with soy milk. When I askee if they have this option - one person couldn't speak anything back (language barrier), another whom he asked showed (no English) that they don't have. And after leaving restaurant for another place, lady who works in kitchen and makes ramens run and told that they have vegan option. The same written on menu. Possible things they add (they ask you what you want) - green onions, bamboo shots, corn and egg. You can choose one or all, up to your preference.
Read moreOverall I enjoyed the taste of the ramen. 4 out of 5 for me. Although, I would reconsider twice if you come and there's no one speaking English. It might be hard to get what you want.
Pros: One kitched lady who speaks English, Possibility to choose what is in ramen
Cons: Most workers poor english, Choices are limited

Solid vegan Ramen - Edit
I was a bit skeptical when I read the mixed comments here but decided to give it a try. We explained that I was vegan and luckily they understood (I also wrote down the letters for it in Japanese and showed them), so I got a yummy soy broth with some noodles and greens. There were no other veggies in it but it was filling and delicious still and I was super happy to be able to eat with my omni family at a traditional ramen place😄

Ok ramen - Edit
I went there despite one of the previous comment saying they had meat in their ramen, be careful their's 2 restaurant called menya shirakawa, maybe it was not the same ?
Read moreIn my case the staff had a good English and was very aware of what a vegan udon is, they just don't put the meat ball in the soy milk udon, and the broth didn't seem to have meat or anything in it. The ramen was a bit to spicy, and besides some salad, their was nothing but noodles in it. The soy milk broth was good tho
On last note, they made me paid the same price for the ramen, even without the meatball
Cons: Price, Not a lot of vegetables in the broth

Vegans and vegetarians should avoid - Edit
I am 90% sure the non-labelled option (soy-milk ramen) described as vegan in past reviews is NOT actually vegan and probably not even vegetarian. I speak some Japanese and while I am currently visiting, I lived here previously for many years. I ordered the described soymilk base ramen, and asked for it to be served vegan. My waiter said ‘ok’ but looked confused, so I followed up, in Japanese, by saying that vegan means it should not have any animal products, and whether that was doable. He said yes firmly and nodded. When the ramen came, there was a ball of ground pork on top. The waiter confirmed it was pork when I asked. I flagged down a different staff member who seemed more senior/knowledgeable, and explained I had ordered the ramen with no animal products. He brought over a new bowl of ramen 10 mins later, this time with a type of lettuce on top instead of the ground pork. Upon trying the ramen, I was quite sure it was made with either chicken and/or meat stock, in addition to the soymilk. In Japan, it is very common to use soy products in conjunction with animal products, unlike in the West, where something soy based typically would not also contain animal products. I suspect an unknowing visitor initially saw the soymilk description of the dish and assumed it was veganizable. I would not list this place as vegan friendly until a fluent Japanese speaker has a detailed conversation to understand their broth and whether the dish can actually be veganized.

Had a similar experience today. I received my ramen with small chops of meat inside. After I let one of the staff members know they replaced it with a new dish and the ramen was great. Still not sure whether it’s really vegan or if it was originally cooked with meat 🙏

Are you sure you didn’t just over explain your order and confused the staff?

Delicious soy milk ramen, couldn’t fault it, just perhaps a few more toppings would have been nice. Very affordable and great to experience a traditional ramen restaurant

Delicious Ramen - Edit
The people who work there know what vegan means and can advise you directly. You can order the soy milk ramen without meat, eggs and chicken broth. I added bamboo shoots, but I wouldn’t have needed them. The broth is well-seasoned and very delicious even without chicken broth. Portions are large. #Veganuary

Tasty ramen - Edit
We had a nice experience here eating yummy vegan ramen. All the dishes come with a spice level of zero and you can add levels of spice (1-5) for 500¥ per level. The consensus at our table of four was that level 1 was a good spice level, with some commenting that it was “no joke.” I had level two, which was a bit much.

Deserve 5 stars, exceptional vegan ramen broth - Edit
This is the place where to get your vegan authentic ramen fix. Period.
Read moreThe broth is everything it has to be, umami, creamy but still brothy simply delicious.
The toppings work perfectly to balance the flavours and the noodles are supreme.
If there is a queue they will take your order while you wait so once you get seated your bowl arrive on your table 5 seconds after, great organisation.
Very simple internal design, normal chair tables and stolls watching the ramen being assembled.
Pros: The broth was out of this world, The noodles just perfect, Thr speed of service
Cons: No cons go get yourself an amazing bowl of ramen

OMGosh RAMEN!!!!! Vegan Ramen!!! - Edit
Finally some nice vegan ramen. Found a place for vegan ramen and I wasn’t disappointed. Been on my bucket list all trip and finally got my ramen 🍜 🥲
Read moreThank you for the description of the restaurant on this app for what to look for and what to do. Made it easy. Just told them vegan ramen with the option they say and boy I was so happy. Noodles were perfect and a bunch of veggies.
Could say I wanted a spicy ramen and adding crushed black pepper from the table was okay but to get what I wanted, I didn’t want to put in a ton of black pepper.
Overall was awesome. I also added extra noodles and realized I need to added them ahead of time when first initially ordering. So a heads up to you if you want extra noodles. Great and amazing flavor with fresh veggies. Staff are super friendly and understanding. We needed an extra chair and had stools for the situation.
I know the place isn’t fully vegan but I do recommend this ramen. Amazing flavor. Do wish they had a spicy ramen. Would love that tbh but highly recommend this place.
Pros: Flavor 10/10, Option to ask for extra noodles
Cons: Extra noodles were a bit chewy , No spicy ramen

A great vegan ramen option in Takayama - Edit
The only vegan optional dish is great!
Read moreTakayama has many establishments, most of them with long waiting times and not many are offering vegan options.
This place can make one dish vegan and it’s a convenient place to come with non vegans, so I think it should be included on happy cow.
Pros: The food, The atmosphere , The staff
Cons: Only one option, but a very good one
