Good value lunch spot - Edit

I had teriyaki tofu for lunch with rice and salad (which was the only thing on the lunch menu apart from a couple of pies). Everything on the lunch menu was vegan on this occasion, though at times they have non-vegan food options and they have honey available to add to chai. Lunch was tasty and good value. I also had a soy chai which was a bit stronger than I like but probably just how lots of orher people like it. The staff were helpful. There's not much seating inside but there are seats outside in the union building.

filling and healthy - Edit

Great place for a cheap healthy snack. Love that you can buy your dry goods here and I like the nice volunteer atmosphere. The tofu burger I ate had a really nice tahini sauce and the vegan donuts were great. Will definitely be coming back :D

Nice, and good prices - Edit

A great option if you're at Melbourne uni, though I wouldn't travel especially just to visit here. Then again, I visited at the very end of their year, as they close after exam session ends for the summer. All they were serving was one dahl dish, and I ate there twice. Both times, the dahl was solid, though the second version, with Black eyed peas, was tastier. They also had wonderful Las Vegan muffins to savour. All around, a good very affordable option.

Pros: great prices, solid, filling

saving students from junk - Edit

The Melbourne Union building was privatised by a brainless student union a few years back, and now features corporate stalls like donut king in the food court. But upstairs, you'll find the co-op, which has been in operation for over 30 years. Hot foods are available with an array of pies, pastries and curries. There are many healthy bread rolls, and some amazing cakes and muffins. All products are vegan except one of the hot pies and three of the sweets. The co-op also offers gluten free pies, muffins and brownies!

There is also a dry goods section where you can get your organic soy milks, lentils, syrups, free trade coffee and anything else you can think of. Even cruelty free washing up liquid!

Membership is open to anyone and members get a 10% discount for the duration (12 months). Yes, I'm a member and it paid for itself within weeks ;)

Pros: 99% vegan, gluten free options, member discounts

Cons: closed during uni breaks, often hard to get a seat at lunch
