Ice cream shop with several vegan options, including two fruit sorbets and a dark chocolate vegan hard ice cream flavor. Est. 2023. Open Wed-Sat 12:30pm-8:00pm, Sun 1:00pm-8:00pm.
Closed Mon & Tue.
As of October 2024, Melba had 3 (actually unique) vegan hard ice cream flavors, and at least 1 sorbet! The flavors change weekly.
I had a "single" (yes—it's huge for a single) of vegan black sesame and vegan sweet potato cheesecake. Both were scrumptious. It cost about $5, which I felt like it was a very fair price considering the size! The Bent Spoon (which is also delicious) in Princeton charges about $6.50 for the same size.
Also, Melba doesn't upcharge for vegan flavors (thank gawd).
Cute Place Not as Vegan Friendly as it Could Be - Edit
Melba's is a cute welcoming place with a small but cozy seating area, outside seating, and friendly staff. I have come here three times and all three times they've been out of their signature vegan dark chocolate ice cream. They did have another vegan sorbet but when you're in the mood for ice cream, that won't do.
I asked if they had any vegan cookies or cupcakes which they always stock at the sister bakery next door and was told they don't offer those yet. So for now, I prefer just going to the Gingered Peach and getting a cookie...or take my chances and one day get to try the vegan ice cream.
Just adding this review to correct the listing until it my edit gets approved. As of July 28, 2023, they do not have vegan soft serve.
The menu lists two regular non-vegan soft serve flavors but the machine is out of order currently regardless.
The current vegan flavors are dark chocolate, black sesame, and pina colada. These are alternatingly called sorbet and nice cream on the menu.

Pros: Multiple unique, vegan options, Not terribly expensive for a premium product, Delicious, locally owned, good vibes

I don't know if this is true as regular cones are often vegan, but an employee recently told me that all the cones they have contain egg

The brand of sugar cones they use is “Dutch Treat” and their ingredients are posted online. Didn’t see any eggs.

Cons: Always out of vegan ice cream, too few vegan ice creams flavors, no vegan goodies
