Tasty Laotian cuisine

I ate here twice, even though it is a bit out of town, closer to the campsite. The women's English was a bit limited, but she had a printed English menu and understood vegetarian and no egg. There were plenty of veg and vegan options on offer. I had delicious fried chilli peanuts with crispy leaves, fried spring rolls with an amazing chili peanut sauce. The pad thai and green curries were adequate.

A real highlight was Kaipen, made of fresh water green algae or river weed, garlic, vegetables, and sesame seeds and it's flash fried. When in Northern Lao this is a must try crispy delight, and hers was really good.

I had a tasty frozen minty lemonade drink which I can't remember the name of. On one occasion, she offered us a shot of home made lao lao, or whisky which was much better than anything in the stores. We came back and bought a bottle. It's worth asking her if she has some, if you're interested in sampling some home made Laotian hooch.

Because she is out of town, her place was a bit empty, which is a bit of shame, because compared to some of the other veg friendly places closer in the center, she's a real gem find, worth the extra trek to try her food.

Pros: Kaipen, delicious laotian cuisine with good veg/vegan opt, her home made lao lao/whiskey

Cons: A bit out of town, uncomfortable cafeteria seating
