Cosy & welcoming. - Edit

Beautiful little joint! I took 3 meat eaters and they enjoyed it all. We ordered the tempura veggies, soy meat, gyoza & mixed vegetables. It’s a must try if you’re in the area, worth the walk.

Pros: Small, welcoming & cosy.

Delicious, cozy, good vibe - Edit

I initially went to WaaGwaan for dinner, but I didn’t enjoy the vibe nor the food, so I moved here since it’s only 10min away. Same bar seating style, except this one is much friendlier, cozier, with great selections of food to choose from! The owner was super welcoming and social~ I had a good time chatting with everyone there...keep in mind I’m an introvert. That’s shows how cozy and friendly this place is!

- I got the natto okonomiyaki, it was delicious!!! A little bit oily, but I loved it!
- The karage was just ok for me.
- Lastly, the tofu matcha ice cream was exceptional!!! I never tasted an ice cream so thick, rich, & orgasmic.

Pros: Open late, Cozy, Delicious

Cons: Expensive, Oily, Limited seatings

Incredible and unique dining experience in Osaka - Edit

Had the most amazing #vegan Japanese meal at this *seven seater* restaurant in Osaka called Megumi . Absolutely amazing food cooked with love by Megumi herself who provided us with great conversation along with two fellow locals who were also dining there: a florist and a retired (and very wise) Doctor. Travel moments like these allow you to make connections over food, and allow strangers to overcome language barriers to become friends. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Truly magical.

Pros: Veganised real Japanese dishes, Japanese & English Menu, Unique experience talking with local diners

Amazing - Edit

This restaurant was fantastic! It was a small, quaint and warm restaurant- seats around 7 people at a time, but not intimidating in the slightest. Three
Of us went to dinner there- a meat eater, a pescatarian and I (a vegetarian) and we were all so excited by the food. We had the “happiness” banquet which was 7 courses. The owner, who was so super lovely, single handedly cooked It all freshly for us. Easy to find from the Kita/Umeda area. Couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Pros: Great atmosphere , Great food, English menu

Overwhelming heartwarming experience - Edit

I just got back from having dinner here. It's the one of the best dinners I have had, not just in terms of taste but also because of the person preparing it, the ambiance and the people that I shared the table (Bar) with. What a beautiful and pleasant experience! It feels like I was home and my mother cooked a meal and served it hot from the stove...
I met Masataka San, a businessman, Nozomi, a beautiful Japanese girl, and a couple from Melbourne named Melissa and Roland. We had a pleasant exchange of topics ranging from trying to learn simple Japanese to sharing our appreciation and love for Osaka.
The lady that prepared the meal oozed care and concern. I had the Vegan Ramen (Finally fulfilled) and the Gyoza. I closed it off with a Vegan Ice cream sweetened with Dates - Just brilliant! All of it. I'd give SIX STARS if I could.
If you would like a home feel and want to enjoy the freshest food you can have next to home, please make sure you go to this place. I will go back there every chance I get.

Pros: Ambiance, Freshness and Taste, Company (Encouraging conversation)

loved this place! - Edit

Tiny little restaurant in Osaka that is seemingly run by one lady who take all of the orders, tends bar, cooks all of the food, and waits tables. My husband and I came here on a rainy night after walking around Osaka for 12 hours and it definitely helped reenergize us. We shared an okinomiyaki, gyoza, and green salad along with some rose and whiskey. All of the food was great and totally vegan. There was a good mix of tourists and locals. The lady who ran the place did not seem to speak much English, but was very nice and we were able to make do with our very little Japanese. The menu, however, is in both English and Japanese, so all you really have to do is point at what you want. This was one of my favorite places that we visited in japan.

food is okay - Edit

though there's lots of choices for you but the food is not delicious at all! We tried the mini steamed buns and it feels like I was eating a sheet of paper.. and the miso ramen has no difference to the normal miso soup. quite disappointed.. if you really wanna dine there I recommend you to try the lunch set which tastes at least okay!

Pros: nice owner, cozy atmosphere

Cons: undelicious food, small aisle

LOVE this place! - Edit

Favourite place in Osaka!!! The owner is an absolute gem, she doesn’t speak much English but she tries really hard and goes out of her way to make you feel at home. We adored her!! She even gave us some extras. The pizza is amazing 10/10 recommend and the matcha tofu icecream is delicious. Homely atmosphere, very personal.

Pros: atmosphere , owner is a gem , food is fantastic

overpriced average food - Edit

I love supporting organic and vegan eateries, but the reviews here are not an honest reflection of Megumi. It truly was overpriced food that tasted average or below average. Not a single dish was anywhere near "amazing" - despite what the reviews say. Almost everything else we tried in Osaka and Kyoto was much better: taste and presentation. You can skip it, and you won't miss out. I won't be going back, even though the owner was very nice.

Pros: organic, vegan, local

Cons: overpriced for what it is, bland flavors, nothing special at all

Cozy space & delicious food - Edit

Went to Megumi’s with my husband for dinner. We had a seat at the bar (which I would call cozy rather than crowded), which also afforded us with a view of the owner preparing and cooking all of the food. We were both impressed that she ran the entire restaurant herself, and the food was excellent. We had potato salad, okonomiyaki, and some ice cream - all vegan. Found it a bit pricey, but would definitely recommend this place to any vegans, especially those who just have to have okonomiyaki while in Osaka!

Pros: Friendly service, Good food

Cons: A bit pricey

The best vegan raman. It is a typical Japanese restaurant, very small and there is only a woman who cooks. The menu is full of options and the dessert are delicious. You have to try It !!!!

Okonomiyaki yum - Edit

First time we came it was closed for no apparent reason (we checked Facebook) but we were very happy to find it open the second time! Very small, and not too comfortable at the counter but still a great meal. The Natto Okonomiyaki was sooo so good and the set meal dinner was great, too. The owner and other customers were very friendly, too!

Wonderfully different - Edit

My first time to find a Japanese style vegan place, I wasreally happy. I sat at the counter and the lady making the food was really friendly in starting a conversation and did a wonderful job at understanding my very limited Japanese which made me feel good too. I'm not sure how much English she knows, she only spoke a few words to me, but the menu is in Japanese and English so if you don't know any Japanese you can just read the menu and point, you'll be fine, the staff were lovely.

Pros: Lots of Japanese dishes, Also gluten free, Free tea as well as water

Cons: Maybe the priciest place I've tried so far

i love megumi! - Edit

I loved it here! It's entirely vegan with vegan dessert options and organic beer and wine. We both had the veggie gyoza and they were super delicious and filling. We also enjoyed a slice of pecan cake for desert. The atmosphere was really nice tho we were early so the only customers for a while. The owner was really nice to us and explained menu options - she wanted to help us out with other vegan venues about town. It's a small, quaint place but really really worth visiting if you can.

Pros: very helpful owner, very tasty

Thank you very much!
I will certainly come back.

vegan interpretations of Japanese favourites - Edit

The place is cosy, entirely run by one hardworking woman. We got the okonomiyaki (savoury pancake), delicious chewy gyoza, and brown rice ramen with wild veges. You could feel your health points increasing! So satisfying.

Wonderful - Edit

Came here for an early dinner at a very quiet time. Perhaps at other times it can get a bit crowded because it is quite a small and narrow space. Just one lady was preparing everything. Ordered the potato salad, okara nuggets and vegan ramen. All were prepared excellently, and probably the potato salad was my pick of the bunch as it hit the spot on a hot summer's day. There are heaps of options on the menu and everything feels authentic and made with love.

Pros: Tasty and authentic

Cons: Narrow space

The Experience I Was Looking For! - Edit

If I never had the HappyCow App, I would've never found you, Megumi!

Being welcomed by guests and the owner was fantastic! The owner was very humble, smart, friendly and a great chef! The location was very small, somewhat out of the way, with intimate bar-style dining experience. We spent our time chatting with the locals (to which we do not know Japanese very well), but we overcame those barriers with sign language and words we did know), who even recommended more vegan/vegetarian places to look for when continuing our Japan journey. One of the customers said she really enjoyed having us there! It was the cutest thing ever!

The potato salad was great, the gyoza and miso soup were on par also. The RAMEN is a MUST-HAVE, not having one since I've become vegan, this was a great jump back into it! After sipping down my last bit of ramen, I was incredibly satisfied and could eat no more!

I've enjoyed my visit so much, that I'm very likely to return to enjoy one more delicious meal, before leaving Osaka.

Thank you again!

Pros: Intimate and Cozy Locale, Incredible Food, Friendly and Welcoming Staff and Patrons

Cons: Portion Sizes For Price, Might Be Hard To Find

Delicious! - Edit

This place was delicious and the service was just right. The chef shared information about the foods we were not familiar with. Her English is limited, but way beyond my grasp of the Japanese language, so I really appreciated her patience and taking the time to communicate with us.

I highly recommend it!

* Make sure you go to the right place. Google maps was sending us 40 minutes to the other side of town. Take the JR Tōzai Line to Ōsakatemmangū Station, which might also be called Minami-morimachi Station.

Pros: Delicious Food, Friendly Service, Learning Experience
