Creative but doesn't really deliver

I’d normally be reluctant to eat at such a meat heavy establishment, but MeatLiquor have a more creative vegan menu with some more unusual meat alternatives, so I was up for giving them a try. I was particularly drawn by the “Tempeh Tantrum” – a burger with tempeh, mushroom & beetroot patties, mostly because I just really love Tempeh. We got that with a side of Impossible Nuggets, which I was excited to try as I’ve heard lots about them and they’ve only just come over from the US to the UK. The Tempeh Tantrum was ok. I liked the idea but I didn’t really rate the execution – the patty was a bit squidgy and odd, and the cheese just felt kind of slapped in, rather than a proper part of the burger. It felt like the ingredients had been put together because they seemed good on paper rather than a proper consideration for how it all actually worked in the burger. It may also just have not been to my taste, as I wouldn’t say it was bad, I just didn’t rate it personally. I probably wouldn’t go back to MeatLiquor when there are so many amazing vegan places around, even though their other options also look interesting. That said, the Impossible Nuggets were incredible – crispy, hot and straight up delicious. I’m very excited to see Impossible Nuggets pop up in more venues and also to try the Impossible sausage patty!
