Eat here

I had the spring rolls and the lo mein with fried tofu. It was delicious and the owner took the time to explain Indonesian cuisine to me where it applied.

I hope this place catches on, it's a real niche for a small town like Greensburg. This place deserves our support

Tempeh Lovers and Non-Lovers Are Welcome

In a very unassuming restaurant in Indiana hosts a hub for a staple that every vegan has attempted, tempeh. I have never been a big fan of tempeh. Every time I cook it at home it always comes out too tough and chewy, with a strong barley taste. However, Mayasari Indonesian Grill drew my eye for a very important reason, house-made tempeh. This is not your store bought stuff! I am glad I gave Mayasari a chance because they delivered on one of the best tempeh experiences I have had.

When I was seated, the server kindly showed me the dishes that can be customized to vegan (and they are labeled on the menu). Excitedly, I wanted to make sure to try the house-made tempeh that is triumphantly shown on their social media and website. After weighing my options, I ordered the Bihun Goreng with tempeh, and I am glad I did. This tempeh was soft but with enough of a firmness not to be mistaken as silken. The dish was more on the sweet-side than I was expecting, but probably in hopes to cater to American palates. Overall, delicious.

I was passing by Greenburg, IN and decided to stop at this restaurant because it was the only option on Happy Cow, but going forward, it is my go-to stop if I am in town again. I have already recommended it to some friends. And next time I visit, I am thinking of purchasing some house-made tempeh to bring home to, maybe finally, cook it properly this time.

Pros: Homemade tempeh, Lots of dishes customized for vegan, Friendly staff

Cons: Not everything is vegan

Cozy little place

Lots of vegan options in the entree section. The menu said they could prepare any dish with tofu or seitan and seemed sensitive to dietary needs. Owner came out to talk to us which was a nice touch.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Affordable

Yummy Food & Helpful Staff

Staff can easily point to all items that can be made vegetarian/vegan, and gluten-free, if needed. They have tofu, and have started making house tempeh!

Pros: Knowledgeable staff and house-made tempeh
