We had several things off of the menu and everything was great. Cute little café mixed in with other businesses. Interesting neighbor to hang out in too.

The food is as beautiful as it is delicious. I really enjoyed the Vietnamese rollos and Mawe tacos along with a perfect smoothie. Made to order - delightfully fresh.

Pricey - but not really for what you are getting.
The quiet street is also nice to eat under the shade outside.
I have to revisit.

Delicious 😋 - Edit
The verde sandwich was incredible, I could eat that every day. The sandwich ingredients were fresh and delicious, and the hemp seed herb oil dressing to top it off brought the best flavor! Plus the homemade fresh cranberry bread was great too. We also enjoyed blueberry pancakes, which were made from scratch, and tasted amazing. The pancakes were flavorful and not overly sweet (without syrup). The juices were refreshing too. There was a beautiful outdoor area to sit, but since it was very hot that day, we ate inside. There is very limited indoor seating.

I can not say enough about MAWE. I stayed in an Airbnb 2 mins walk away from MAWE and ate there at least once a day for a week. Each time I went, I tried something else from their menu. Everything was fabulous from the avocado toasts, to the pancakes to the pasta dishes, the sandwiches, the tacos and the smoothies. Oh snd they make their own kombucha. Lemon was my favorite. My favorite dish on their menu was the MAWE tacos, with the tacos al pastor a close second. I also recommend the Pink smoothie, but you can’t go wrong with anything. The only dish I wouldn’t rave about was the chilaquiles.
Read moreMAWE is only an 8 min walk to the beach/malecon and only a 2 min walk to the Angela Peralta Theater. Do not visit Mazatlan without going to this restaurant. Oh and did I mention that they have their own garden there where much of their produce comes from?

Great menu but food was not great - Edit
We were excited for the variety on the menu and weren’t hungry so decided to share the jackfruit tacos. The flavour was bland, overpowered by the vegan cheese and there was not much filling in them compared to why we’ve tried elsewhere and also traditional tacos. I hadn’t even finished my taco when (the owner I think) tried taking my plate away as I was still eating, I made it clear by pouring sauce on my taco but still needed to ask him to wait, the only had a couple of customers so was not like the table was needed.

Try to not rush people
Only ask once or twice for drinks, and leave adáptate time between
Maybe have sauces stand available to add flavours if needed to taco (like traditional stands)
Fill the tacos more 😊 but less cheese it was very strong
Pros: All vegan menu, Nice venue
Cons: Overpriced , Taste lacked flavour and filling needs filling, Staff to allow you to finish meal

This was a great place for breakfast while our cruise ship was at port. We were delighted with the AC, which we have found is rare for restaurants in Mexico. They were playing lovely music and we had a great time.

Great Vegan food in Mazatlan's Centro - Edit
We were in Mazatlán for 2 weeks during February and March of 2023. We ate at the vegan restaurant MAWE (in the Roosevelt Building) three times. Every meal was delicious. The wait staff and cooking crew were always friendly and helpful. We ate Portobellos Rellenos, Monti Verde Pasta, MAWE Tacos, Enchiladas, Dried Tomato Sandwich, Tofu Combo, and 2 desserts. Every dish was filling and delicious. We asked owner Mario for recommendations, and they were perfect. (The name of the restaurant comes from the first two letters of his and his wife’s name, Wendy). Very unusual for us, we had dessert with each meal and were impressed with the vegan ice cream that was served over the warm brownies and also the apple crisp. I am not an apple desert person but loved the crisp and its presentation. Mario is a doctor, having started the restaurant to support healthy eating habits in Mazatlán. He supports Lifestyle Medicine. He and Wendy usually work the evening shift at the restaurant while Wendy’s sisters Denisse and Adelita cover the morning hours. The prices were very fair for the amount of food and care given in creating them. We loved their mushroom preparation techniques. We will return here again upon our next visit to Mazatlán.

I am a fan of this place! - Edit
MAWE is my new favorite restaurant in Mazatlan. At first, I was a bit hesitant to eat there, thinking that it would be some fast food style unhealthy plant-based restaurant. After giving it a try, I realized it was quite the opposite. Everything is made to order with lots of love, fresh ingredients, and attention to detail.
Read moreOver a month, I've tried almost everything on the menu. As far as the main dishes go, my favorites are the Linda Quinoa, Ensalada Cobb, Dried Tomato Sandwich, and the Veggie Burger with the chickpea patty. I'd often order the Yoshi and the Oro Verde smoothies for dessert. Yoshi is my favorite! I highly recommend their green juice as a starter. It's made to order with a slow cold-press juicer. They only have one juice option on the menu and are doing it perfectly. I love when places do things the right way.
MAWE is a family-owned restaurant named after Mario and Wendy, the owners. Wendy's sisters, Adelita and Denisse, work the morning shift. Mario and Wendy evenings. Everybody is super friendly, professional, and welcoming.
Very quickly we become good friends with everybody working there. They invited me to go to Venados Island with them by Kayak. And later on, they hosted a show of my touring band, Black Sea Storm, in the restaurant's patio area. They had such respect for my music that they stopped taking orders for main dishes and beverages using the blender so the noise wouldn't ruin the show. We had a fantastic night with everyone who showed up.
MAWE is located in a historical Bauhaus-style building called La Roosevelt. Last year when I was visiting Mazatlan around the same time of the year, the renovation of the building was being completed. This time around, I discovered this unique place hosting several different businesses. In addition to MAWE, there is an Art Gallery, a Crepe Place, a Mezcaleria, and a Pizza Joint. They also have open-air movie nights on Mondays. What I love about La Roosevelt is that there is quite a large common area where people can meet and consume food and beverages from the different businesses on site.
If you visit Mazatlan, stop by MAWE and La Roosevelt for healthy plant-based food and a cultural experience.

Local chiquito pero a gusto y servicio super amable.
Read moreI got the tofu combo (frijoles, scrambled tofu, chilaquiles) and a jugo verde. Although the jugo had both celery and cucumber, which I ordinarily don't like, it was quite good. I can't say the scramble was the best I've ever had, but it was a decent breakfast. Helpfully, they gave my salsa for the chilaquiles on the side so they wouldn't get soggy, and that came in a small reusable glass bottle. The place is small - entry is through the yard even though it looks like it might be through the building - but comfortable enough, and the two people attending that morning were super pleasant. A bit pricey for the portions, but a good option downtown.
Pros: service, decent menu variety

best ceviche ever. - Edit
I was coming off a cruise, desperate for some Actual vegan food, when I stumbled upon this place. It saved me!! The food and drinks were some of the most delicious things I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Try the ceviche! My non-vegan family was hooked on it too! The place is small, though, and there’s only about 2 little picnic tables located inside. The other seating options are outdoors. If inside, though, you can see/hear them making your deliciously fresh food!

Mawe Yummy - Edit
Mawe (a portmanteau of the owners’ names, Mario and Wendy) had only been open for a few days when we happened upon it. And, oh, are we happy we did!
Read moreThe restaurant occupies the corner of a magnificent and modern building, sharing spaces with a crepery, a yoga studio, and some other hip stuff. Most of the seating is at umbrellaed tables set on a verdant lawn—very relaxing, though I do wonder how customers will feel on very hot days or on rainy days. Still, most people know that outdoor eating in Mazatlán works superbly almost all of the year. I loved the space.
For a starter, we had the hummus (four flavors of it) while we sipped on refreshing strawberry juices. Dinner was the portobello rellenos (amazingly marinated tomatoes on this) and the torta de yaca (a very healthy-feeling sandwich). Dessert was a brownie with ice cream.
Mawe serves breakfast, but I believe the menu will change often. The lunch/dinner menu I’m posting might change as well, as it is the inaugural menu.
We talked a lot with Mario, who obviously cares much about serving healthy food, and the environment was a friendly one.
The pricing is fair though perhaps a bit steep for Mazatlán. We spent (with tip) 500 pesos—roughly $25 USD. That might not sound like much, but it’s one of the more expensive meals we’ve had here. Still, that includes drinks, a starter, two entrees, and a dessert, so…. Plus, we felt great supporting a business that dares to be 100% vegan! No regrets here!
I’m very hopeful about Mawe, and I look forward to being a loyal customer for many years to come!
UPDATE June 4, 2022: we ate at Mawe again tonight. We ordered the ceviche, the burger, and the pasta. The main feeling we walked away with was “That is very healthy and tasty food.” A lot of restaurants (including vegan ones) can leave you walking away from the table and holding your belly uncomfortably. Mawe is not like this. It’s a fresher experience. Food is not overly salty or sweet or oily. The focus is on the ingredients.
Something important to note is that, as of the date of this review, cards are not accepted forms of payment.
