Best vegan diner! - Edit
Best vegan egg I’ve ever had. (Seriously how do they do it) make this a stop if you’re in charlotte.
Read moreTheir breakfast sandwich was amazing w vegan rye. Vegan sloppy Joe fries were not that good though, tasted like gardein beef crumbles.
You can ask for oat milk if you order Their drip coffee.
Wish I could come back to try the milkshakes, pancakes, and some of the entrees.
Pros: Great variety of options, Outdoor patio, Room for larger groups
Cons: No espresso

A great option for breakfast. - Edit
A classic diner with a number of vegan options. The server was fast, friendly, and funny. Food arrived promptly and was delicious and in larger portions. I ended up having two more meals out of the leftovers. Great coffee, too! I will certainly return.

Not great - Edit
The reuben/ pastrami sandwich and fries were pretty good. Unfortunately the vegan omelet was not. The texture of their egg substitute was both rubbery and gritty and the taste was very bad.

Fun diner and yummy food - Edit
I went for breakfast on a weekday. There were lots of seating options. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered a lot and it came out fast. The pancakes were amazing. Milkshake was good, but pricy. I agree with other reviews of the “egg” not being amazing.

Good experience with meal, not so good with dessert - Edit
Went for dinner, but they have breakfast available all day. Had Waffle House vibes, which was cool. Had several vegan options on menu, and had some things that we as vegans don’t typically see in restaurants- vegan flapjacks, milkshakes, “meat”ball plate, etc. I had the vegan breakfast quesadilla with home fries, and it really hit the spot. The only disappointment was the dessert, which was a prepackaged piece of lemon cake- label said Vegan Bougie Bakery. It didn’t seem fresh, was pretty dry. I would definitely go back again.

Must try! - Edit
I was reluctant to try a non-vegan restaurant in a city with so many all vegan places, but I finally got around to trying Mattie's and was pleasantly surprised. The server was great, and the food arrived really quickly. Everything I tried was delicious. This is a great stop, particularly if you are looking for a place that opens early.

Amazing food and vibes - Edit
This place is awesome!! I took my grandparents, siblings, and parents. We all live in different parts of the country and all found different items to get (their menu is HUGE). Afterwards, we said we’d go back every year around Christmas!!

AWESOME!! - Edit
We absolutely loved our experience here. The retro diner feel is so fun. There are MANY vegan options available that will leave you feeling satisfied (and probably very full). The pancakes were fluffy, and I really loved my “omelette”. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Charlotte.

So Friendly - Edit
It's nice to have a laid back diner atmosphere that's inclusive and has vegan offerings. The waitress was so sweet. I loved the vegan bacon. They had oatmilk for my coffee. I was very happy to find this place. Also, my blueberry "flapjack" was delicious.

Reminds me of Waffle House! - Edit
I used to LOVE having Waffle House and this filled that void for me! The staff is warm and welcoming! Not a fan of the egg substitute (might be good on a sandwich), but the sausage was great, and the pancakes were the BEST I’ve had in my 4 years of being vegan. Will 100% be back!

Not tasty - Edit
I stumbled across this diner and I ordered take out pancake and egg omelette.
Read moreNeither was tasty at all. I took one bit of the i Ian’s it had a smell. The pancake had an aftertaste. Why I don’t know since pancake batter is vegan anyways. It’s just what you add to the batter.
I may try it one more time. Who know maybe the best chef was off that day

So many good vegan options. Breakfast here was awesome. Had an omelet and quesadilla, both were incredibly tasty. Not just your regular, boring couple of vegan options. New favorite spot in Charlotte!

I can highly recommend Matties Diner.
The vegan choices are searching for competition.
To the story, we came to Charlotte for some days, searched for a place to have breakfast, had our first breakfast and came back 7 days in the row to enjoy the hospitality and the amazing food :)
The people are great, the atmosphere is amazing and the food is probably the best in town.
Pros: Many vegan options , Very friendly service, Great atmosphere

Love it - Edit
Love this place! Would give 5 stars but understand why I can’t since it’s not fully vegan/ vegetarian! I was able to chat with the owner yesterday and love how he made the menu so that when vegans come in with friends and family that are not so everyone is able to enjoy a diner meal together.. LOVE!! He told me that he loves feed back from the vegan community and is always committed to making the vegan options better for example my family and I always share the vegan disco fries (vegan gravy and cheese) and this last time the gravy was even better then before! Mattie told me that he created a new recipe after talking to some vegan regulars which I thought was awesome! They use a new egg product as well that’s only available to restaurants which made my omelette look like an actual egg omelette! They have awesome vegan specials sometimes too and I am very excited to try them next time I go considering they are working on a vegan pot roast! Make sure you try a slice of vegan cake I had the raspberry chocolate mouse cake this time but I usually get a vegan milkshake I get the banana and add Oreos!

Ok.. - Edit
When you go to a spot with vegan options that isn’t fully vegan, you expect it to be just ok. And that’s what this is. The egg they use isn’t just egg or tofu it’s something I don’t think I’ve ever had before, possibly follow your heart but done differently? Same texture as FYH tho so that’s what you should expect. If you don’t like that egg, don’t order anything here with egg. The milkshakes are out of this world. Highly recommend. Pancakes were great! Bacon and sausage they use is excellent.

Happy for options - Edit
I’m thankful this place has vegan breakfast options & clearly listed on their menu as vegan, also that they are open early! The food tasted good but it wasn’t spectacular, the diner vibe is cool and they had outside seating. We had the chocolate chip vegan flapjacks and sausage breakfast sandwich w/ has browns. I would give it 4 stars if the hash browns were fully cooked but some of the potatoes were still pretty firm. However I would go back again! The sandwich had 2 sausage patties and the rye bread was delicious. Our two meals were $24 so that’s pretty reasonably priced.

Vegan Options for Every Meal - Edit
Was great to have a place with so many vegan options. I hope they continue to add more as they go. Loved the vegan pancakes and will definitely be back for them again. Great vibe too. Only thing I didn't love with the vegan egg used for the breakfast sandwich. Wasn't my favorite, thought the vegan bun and cheese were great. Not sure what they used but it would be great if they would switch to just egg.
