Excellent stay at this onsen ryokan - Edit
Was offered a special vegetarian menu for dinner and breakfast for a mere 2200 yen extra.

Vegan course was super! - Edit
Staff was so kind and vegan course was worth trying. Especially Fake Fish made from Tofu skin was very unique and tasty. Highly recommend to visit there when you go to Gunma.

HappyCow only allows users to give a five-star rating to establishments that are fully vegan/vegetarian, however my stay at Matsumotoro Hotel proved to be one of the best vegan experiences I have had so far in Japan. (Ideally I would like to give Matsumotoro the full five stars as the level of care taken to cater to our needs was extraordinary and hotel staff went above and beyond what was expected in terms of service. True Japanese hospitality!)
Read moreIt is rare for hotels in rural parts of Japan (an onsen resort town such as Ikaho, for example) to be quite so accommodating with regard to customers’ special dietary requirements. Matsumotoro is ahead of most major hotels, even those in Tokyo, in that they are flexible enough to cater to vegan and vegetarian meal requestsーwith a full understanding of what that means. (I would recommended contacting the hotel at the time of booking to confirm availability for set meals.)
Thanks to the staff at Matsumotoro, my friend’s birthday trip to Ikaho Onsen was a special, memorable, and stress-free experience!
Pros: The set meal felt special and was delicious, Buffet items at breakfast were clearly labelled, Staff had a clear understanding of what was vegan

Very nice Vegan food and Onsen - Edit
Ikaho is a very famous hot spring in Japan. At Matsumotoro, I was able to eat the best vegan food that made use of Gunma's vegetables. The skills of the chef and the politeness of the staff are top notch.
