So convincing! - Edit

This food is some of the most convincing vegan food I’ve had. I had to ask and make sure! So good!
I also have to give a shout out to their chai lattes! It was probably the best I’ve ever had!

amazing veg burger - Edit

I had amazing food memories of that amazing Matcha burger for a long time after. The smoothie was also great. Could work on making the coffee hot but that’s a small thing compared to the warm and fuzzy feeling we left with! Hence the 5 stars.

Would be hard to matcha this! - Edit

Extensive vegan menu with quirky dish names and trendy interiors. Delicious and innovative meal choices...vegan eggs were weirdly egg like and scrumpciously tasty! Friendly and helpful staff. Sadly missed out on the cakes because the delivery hadn't arrived - a good reason to return next time we're in Melbourne!

Great Vegan Eggs - Edit

I was interested to try the Vegan Eggs. We shared poached Vegan Eggs on sourdough toast and the flavour and texture was great. They look pretty convincingly like eggs too. The deluxe black tie avocado (a fabulous combination of creamy avocado and tamari almond curd with juicy heirloom tomatoes, crisp purple daikon on toasted sourdough) was delicious. The matcha made in heaven pancakes were tasty too. They made a good long black and the cacao latte was enjoyable too.

The venue is light filled with views out the window of St Kilda life. The only downsides are that it's quite pricey and also I didn't get great vibes from the staff. But the food was great, and staff might just have been a bit stressed, so I'm keen to come again.

Fantastic food and presentation - Edit

I've been many times, I love it. Great concept, excellent food and presentation. Their "eggs" are great!

The only down side is that it's so popular that sometimes you have to wait quite a lot to get a table (but definitively worth it!).

Pros: great food, beautiful dishes, vegan eggs

Cons: sometimes you have to wait for a table, may get a bit noisy

Choose the waffles - Edit

I looked forward coming here because of the matcha pancakes, but my boyfriend ordered the waffles and they were even better! Fun with vegan eggs, although they didn't taste much and I didn't like the hollandaise, unfortunately it just tasted really sour. Other than that, great place and great vibes!

a bit too much hype - Edit

This place came highly recommended and I suppose my bad experience could have been because they were so busy or that I ordered the wrong thing, but I wasn't impressed.
My dish was nothing like the others I saw photos of (egg on toast with hollandaise), and it neither tasted nor smelled like egg (was there for an experience even though admittedly I never loved eggs). I also had a free the nibs smoothie and it came very watery and tasted fair, but was very mediocre for $10. Total damage $30 for some little rubbery things on toast and watered down smoothie,... wasn't worth it.

Pros: possible good presentations

Cons: overhyped, overpriced

Good fresh food - Edit

We ordered the poutine, gnocchi and bao. All had great presentation, with tasty but average flavours. We liked that it wasn't super oily. We do wish there was a heater though for outside, as we were freezing

Good food - Edit

Aug 2017: Gave this place another chance, ordered the poached eggs with some rice paper mock bacon and a potato rosti on the side. My partner ordered a burger with sweet potato chips. The white of the eggs tasted very authentic but the yolk was a big flavourless, could have done with some salt and pepper but they don't provide any on the tables. Potato rosti was DELICIOUS! Would definitely get that again. The bacon was good and very reasonably priced but they should warn you that it is flavoured with chili so it's quiet spicy. My partner really enjoyed his burger and the sweet potato chips were delicious! Will be back to try more of the menu options.

2016: Stopped in here to try the range of hot drinks. It's in a good location so they get a lot of street traffic and it was pretty busy even though it was a weekday afternoon.

We ordered the white chocolate matcha (a special) and the carrot cake latte. Waited 15-20 minutes and then asked the staff about the order and she said she never got it. I said we had to go and we would cancel the order. She offered to give us the drinks for free and as takeaway so we accepted. The white chocolate matcha was really good, but it has a strong matcha taste so if you're not a big fan you might not like it. The carrot cake latte was kinda sweet but didn't taste like much of a latte, needed some more plant-based milk. It also wasn't very hot which was strange because they had just made it and the matcha drink was definitely hot enough.

Willing to give it another try and try the poached eggs sometime because that sounds pretty inventive. Music was also a bit too loud.

No matcha for Matcha - Edit

I've not seen a menu like it! So innovative and vegan eggs!! (Not that I could bring myself to try them).

Busy cafe, there was a waitlist on the Saturday we were there. Friendly attentive service and nice vibe.

Food was great. I had the Japanese Okinawa (matcha bar buns with pulled jackfruit and sour cream, served with a vietnamese slaw). Also ordered heirloom tomatoes with avocado, almond feta, crispy kale and toast at our table. Both delicious.

Cacao latte was delightful too, love all the drink options. Also had a almond croissant - amazing!

Pros: Innovative menu

Cons: May have to wait for a table

Something different! - Edit

I visited again this year and tried the burger. It was tasty without being amazing or something that I'd tell people they needed to try. Service was efficient and friendly.

I've never been to a place with vegan eggs before. We arrived at 12 and they said the table would be available in about an hour and a half. They called me (I think it was quicker than expected) and I was very impressed! We ordered the smoothie (free the nibs) and I ordered the vegan eggs with eggplant balls. I loved the smoothie in particular. I was a bit worried when I saw small servings but it was filling enough anyway. The eggs texture was incredible and I liked the taste. The eggplant balls were very tasty. I'd like to try the burger next time.

Pros: Friendly service, Lots of options

Cacophonic corner - Edit

Sardinia longevity bowl was very well done, best gnocchi that I have ever eaten!
Drinks (Mushroom latte & iced Matcha latte) were okay.
Sweet potato chips were well prepared/crispy, but difficult to eat due to being dry (air-fried perhaps?).
Mock eggs meh
Pulled Jackfruit was sour.

Many other things of interest on the menu though; keen to go back and try smoothies, more longevity bowls, the 2nd social influencer and possibly the black bean and quinoa burger in the charcoal bun o.O

Go, if only for the puns! - Edit

Funny puns all over the place and menu.
Vegan poached egg on toast is essentially the same texture as a real egg. taste is similar but sweeter.
Also had the green bowl which had nice mint and sauces.
Turmeric latte was nice and the PB cheesecake delicious.

Pros: Unique vegan egg, good vibe to the place, friendly staff on the whole

Cons: Quite expensive for fairly small portions

Very impressive - Edit

Matcha Mylkbar is very impressive. The menu is comprehensive with something for everyone and the food is well presented and tasty. You must try their signature vegan eggs! Coffee was good with a selection of non-cow milks (almond, soy and coconut) with the vegan deserts looking amazing. Service can be a bit slow but given it was New Years Day they can be forgiven. Around $25 per head with coffees is a bit on the pricy side but then again you get what you pay for.

Pros: Excellent variety, Great ambience, Vegan food which is very tasty

Cons: A bit pricy, Service can be slow

great place for a vegan lunch - Edit

This is a great place for a healthy vegan or vegetarian lunch. I had the kale and nut-cheese on toast with a vegan egg. The matcha latte was great, but the vegan poached egg wasn't really great - it tasted more sweet than savoury. Other than that, I love this place! Great smoothies too

Pros: Great smoothies, Variety

Cons: Vegan eggs a let down

Booming - Edit

We paid our first visit on a very busy Sunday morning and it has to be said that the service was impressively efficient and prompt, all things considered. The vegan eggs had to be tasted and while they do look scarily authentic, the taste was pleasant and subtle (thankfully not egg-like), but perhaps lacking in flavour. The toast was served dry which didn't help the overall balance. The side serve of bbq pulled jackfruit was a little over-powering and tart to the taste. The Sardinia bowl was the standout of the day; very tasty and well put together. Happy to return to sample more from the menu.

Pros: Creativity

Cons: Noisy, Pricey

Better to look at than eat - Edit

There's a misbalance between how great the food looks and how... okay it is. The food that you get just can't really justify the wait and the prices. The puns are pretty good, though, and props to the owners for managing to import in scientifically impossible water from another universe.

Pros: The food is truly Instagram-worthy

Cons: Slow service, Not cheap

overvalued, underwhelming - Edit

I visited this restaurant 2 days ago and found it terrible value. The food was very average and the service slow but my main complaint is it is very, very expensive for what it is. I wonder what my portion size would have been had I not ordered 3 extra side dishes.

Pros: A couple of friendly staff, light, bright and clean premises

Cons: very small portion sizes for the price, slow service

slow service, nice food - Edit

After hearing only good things I decided to visit @matcha_mylkbar for lunch today. I ordered the Loma Linda Longevity Bowl with "excuse me, but I find you very appealing " smoothie, my wife ordered the vegan eggs on toast. The ambience of the cafe was nice, friendly staff, some thought has been taken to attention to detail. Weighted cutlery, labelled jugs of water highlighting its purity. It took 29 minutes for our food to arrive ?. It didn't appear that busy although most tables were occupied. My wife's meal looked bare. Plain toast with one egg on top. We asked for some avocado to have with it (it looked rather dry). However it took so long for it to arrive the plate was empty by then. ? My meal & smoothie was tasty & filling. When paying the bill I was asked how was everything, so I explained the above, to which she replied "sorry about that " which seemed trite and rehearsed. Oh well, I really want to support vegan cafes, so I'll probably come back for another try.

Pros: health focus , completely vegan , interesting menu

Cons: slow service , pricey

Just. WOW. - Edit

Came here expecting to squander cash on an expensive, trendy, hipster gimmick - departed as a new convert to trendy, expensive, hipster gimmicks!!! Not sure what happened to the customers below (can only assume they've lifted their game since?) but was pleasantly surprised by absolutely impeccable service, tasty and uniquely designed meals and a great vibe. Although $20 for a main is beyond my usual budget, would come here again for the delicious food, fantastic service and pumping atmosphere.
